Absolutely Spoiled - Chapter 16

Chapter 16
Yu Zhiyi couldn’t bear it anymore and ran into the house to call her parents. But her grandmother didn’t let her call her parents, saying, “Yiyi, your Mom and Dad didn’t tell you this because they care about you. It’s their problem; let them solve it themselves.”
Yu Zhiyi was very sad, and she just hugged her grandmother and cried out of her heart.
…………………….
The little girl was folding tiny stars repeatedly while sitting in front of the bed in the dead of night. When she closed her eyes, she couldn’t sleep since her mind was racing with negative thoughts. When people were facing problems and couldn’t see a solution, they intended to believe anything that could bring peace to their hearts. So when Yu Zhiyi was folding stars, she made a wish. ‘If I could fold thousands of stars tonight, my parents might reconcile.’
[T/L: Some believe that folding and giving lucky stars originated in Asia and expanded around the world through cultural interchange and modern connectivity. The symbolism of origami lucky stars is wishing or good luck. To bring luck and positivity, people fold these stars and put them in jars or as decorations.]
………………………….
Suddenly, Yu Zhiyi’s grades dropped, and her class teacher called Ruan Qing to inform her. After the conversation was over, she approached Yu Kai and said, “Yiyi’s grades have dropped. Perhaps it’s because of our affairs.”
Although their problem was not solved, Ruan Qing didn’t want to see such a thing, so she discussed it with Yu Kai and came to a temporary agreement. Yu Kai took this opportunity with both hands and spent another six months trying to win back his wife’s affection.
In order to make Yu Zhiyi happy, they returned to their hometown with their youngest daughter during the New Year.
Yu Zhiyi was thrilled to see her parents return with her younger sister and told Shi Yi, “My parents are not divorced; they reconciled, and I will still be my parent’s child in the future!”
Seeing her so happy, he couldn’t bear to expose Yu Kai and Ruan Qing’s seemingly incompatible acting behaviours. In fact, anyone with a discerning eye could spot it, except Yu Zhiyi.
…………………..
On New Year’s Eve, Yu Zhiyi took out the bottle with the folded stars and made another wish. ‘I hope I will not get separated from the people I like.’
…………………
Yu Zhiyi was at the courtyard gate, and Shi Yi was near the window, when someone set off fireworks at 12 o’clock on New Year’s Eve, though they couldn’t see each other in the dark night, they knew he or she was there!
Yu Zhiyi put the bottle containing a thousand little stars on the table and glanced at her sister sleeping next to her. Then she lay on the bed and fell asleep with good expectations.
She woke up the next morning to find the star bottle opened, the lid on the table, and stars scattered all over the floor and the table. Yu Zhiyi was shocked. ‘Who did this?’ The first name that came to her mind was her sister, Yu Xinyan.
Yu Xinyan didn’t sleep with her parents or grandma; therefore, she and Yu Zhiyi had to share a bed. The adults in the family would not play with such childish things, so it should surely be the younger one.
When Yu Zhiyi looked at the scene, she found out there were only two or three hundred stars on the table and ground. “Where did the other stars go?” she asked herself. Then she quickly put on her coat and rushed out of the room, shouting, “Yanyan, Yu Xinyan!”
Then she found out her sister was playing with folded stars as she was throwing them in the air. The stars fell to the floor like scattered flowers.
She had spent sleepless nights creating those stars with wishes, and Yu Xinyan threw them away as trivial toys.
Yu Zhiyi’s eyes turned red in an instant. She didn’t cry, but she was so angry that she wanted to scold her sister, but she didn’t know what to say. “Yu Xinyan! Why did you take my things? If you don’t ask, it’s stealing.”
“I just played for a while.” Yu Xinyan wasn’t expecting her sister’s rage. She was too coquettish to apologise, so she pointed to the stars on the ground and said, “Why do you want to scold me? You can just pick them up!”
“You still don’t feel bad! You’re not sorry at all!” Yu Zhiyi was generally a kind and compassionate older sister, but her younger sister crossed her tolerance line and demanded justice for herself.
Yu Xinyan declined, saying, “I just played for a while, and I didn’t throw it away, so just pick it up!”
Grandma noticed the sisters’ fight, and she also noticed stars on the ground. She went to Yu Zhiyi and touched her shoulder, and she told Yu Xinyan, “Pick up your sister’s things quickly, and apologise to your sister!”
Yu Xinyan declined. She hardly saw her grandma a few times a year and didn’t like this old woman. She just thought her grandma was favouring her sister. So when she heard her grandma’s words, she trampled the stars on the floor in a fit of anger.
Yu Zhiyi was heartbroken and slapped her sister’s hand, making her cry.
Yu Xinyan cried for her parents, and when Yu Kai and Ruan Qing came back, one coaxed the younger daughter and the other comforted the elder daughter.
As soon as Yu Zhiyi saw that her arrogant sister was being coaxed by her father, she broke free from her mother and went to pick up the stars with her grandmother.
After that incident, Yu Zhiyi hardly talked with Yu Xinyan.
Every time Yu Xinyan came back, she always wanted to steal her things! She had to admit the dark side of her heart; she didn’t like this sister very much, so she wanted to protect everything that belonged to her!
………………………..
As the end of the New Year was approaching, Yu Kai and Ruan Qiag bought tickets to return to the city.
Before going, Ruan Qian said to Yu Zhiyi, “Yiyi, forget everything and study hard to get admitted to the high school in the city.”
…………………
The second semester of the third year of junior high school was even more intensive. The school incorporated nighttime self-study. Yu Zhiyi calmed down to read and answer questions. She asked Shi Yi for an explanation when she didn’t understand a question, risking being called foolish.
The class teacher was pleased with the two children’s learning because the whole school was paying attention to Shi Yi and Yu Zhiyi.
The junior high school students took a break in June to make room for the senior high school students, who were taking the college entrance exam.
In the past few days, Yu Zhiyi went to look for Shi Yi with a book in her hands. Perhaps infected by Yu Zhiyi’s atmosphere of studying hard, Shi Yi temporarily put down the game and accompanied her to review and consolidate knowledge.
“Brother, if we both enter the city high school, we can be together again for the next three years!” She thought about it; even if her parents didn’t buy a house, she could live in the school and still be able to meet Shi Yi in class.
“Oh, we were born together; we studied together in kindergarten; we were together in elementary school; we were together in junior high school; and we were still together in high school. Does that mean we should be together in university?”
“University?” This was a little far away for the little girl, who was still worrying about the high school entrance examination, but since Shi Yi asked, she still thought carefully before answering. “I heard that there are many different universities. Then I just chose the same university as my brother!” In her thinking, there was no consciousness of being separated from her brother.
“Oh~” The young man turned to look at her, raised his eyebrows slightly, and his narrow eyes were a bit confusing. “You want to be with your brother in college, so what about graduating after college? Work with me?”
The little girl’s eyes lit up. “Ah, is it okay? I don’t know what to do in the future!”
Shi Yi: ‘Forget it; she’s still young, so it’s useless to ask.’
……………………..
After the nerve-wracking college entrance exam, junior high school students returned to school and studied hard. Last month, Yu Zhiyi worked hard, and she was in good shape when she entered the test room, fiddling with the problem as usual.
When leaving school, Qiao Lezhi, who was usually carefree, suddenly hugged her and cried, “Yiyi, I seem to have failed the exam; I think the answers for multiple-choice questions are all wrong!” She was very sad and said that she might not be able to go to high school with her in the future.
As soon as Yu Zhiyi heard her friend’s words, she felt that Qiao Lezhi’s worries now were a bit unnecessary; after all, she would not know until the results came out any more.
Of course, she had to tell Qiao Lezhi tactfully and comfort her!
Qiao Lezhi hugged her and cried for a while, until Shi Yi came to them. “Qiao Lezi, you can cry when you want to cry; don’t hug my family’s Yiyi. If you make her cry, are you responsible?”
Qiao Lezhi hurriedly wiped away the few tears that were in the corner of her eyes. “I am responsible, and I am responsible!”
She wanted to take Yu Zhiyi back, but unexpectedly, Shi Yi directly pressed her into his arms and said to her arrogantly, “You have a good idea!”
The sound of joy came out, and Qiao Lezhi really forgot to be sad.
…………………………
Yu Zhiyi went home with Shi Yi. On the way, she told Shi Yi, “Mom and Dad called and said they would come back to see me after I finished the exam. I kept counting the time: It’s tomorrow!”
But Yu Zhiyi still didn’t know that the tomorrow she was looking forward to was not a happy family reunion but would push her into a dark abyss.
……………………………….
Yu Kai and Ruan Qing changed their faces the day after You Zhiyi’s first high school entrance exam. They told Yu Zhiyi, “Your father and I can no longer live together, so we must tell you about this matter.”
When the parents divorced, the ownership of the two daughters became a problem.
In fact, they have talked about this topic privately several times, and each raises a different one. They both favour Yu Xinyan, their younger daughter, in their hearts.
“Yanyan is still young and requires her mother’s attention more. Taking her with me is best for her.” Ruan Qing believed the eldest daughter had always been smart and self-sufficient. Even if she followed her father, she would do well. But the youngest daughter was too spoiled, and it was inconvenient for her father to take her with her.
There were two reasons why Yu Kai wanted the younger daughter. One was that he raised her himself, so he was emotionally biassed; the other was that he wanted to compete with Ruan Qing, probably to protect the man’s face.
Both of them have a person in their hearts, but they wanted to ask their daughter’s opinion in a hypocritical way. “Yiyi, after Mom and Dad separate, who do you want to follow?”
[T/L: Poor Yiyi… Luckily, there is still Shi Yi.]

If anyone deserves to be loved by Shi Yi, it’s YiYi.
