Absolutely Spoiled - Chapter 20.2

Chapter 20.2
Mid-September
As the school began to promote the Autumn Games, every student was requested to participate in them.
The sports committee member walked to Qiao Lezhi and knocked on the desk. “Qiao Lezi, do you sign up for the autumn sports?”
“Yes!” She was very enthusiastic. “I want to sign up for a 50-meter sprint!”
Sports Committee: “…”
Seeing the expressions of Qiao Lezi, the sports committee member thought that she was going to run for three kilometres. She then noted it down and asked again, “Are you going to participate in other events?”
Qiao Lezhi grinned. “No, I really can’t do other things!”
Except for short-distance running, she had no confidence in other sports.
The sports committee expressed disappointment.
“Hey, you can ask Shi Yi, he will help our class win prizes. He had done that before,” Qiao Lezhi pointed at Shi Yi and said.
Jiang Mier, who was the class sports committee member, shook her head with a serious expression and replied, “No, he will not. I asked him before, but he said no.”
“No?” Qiao Lezhi remembered Shi Yi as an all-around, outstanding person. And he participated in every sports event in elementary and juniour high schools.
Jiang Mier sighed helplessly. “Really, he said he was not free. I saw that he seemed to be writing notes or something.”
“Oh.” Then Qiao Lezhi remembered something. ‘It should be for Yu Zhiyi.’ She also missed her good friend Yu Zhiyi so much. So, when school was over, she ran to Shi Yi and asked in a low voice, “Can I meet Yiyi this weekend?”
Shi Yi looked up at her, then paused and replied, “I’ll ask her.”
Qiao Lezhi’s eyes lit up, and she thanked Shi Yi.
The next day, Shi Yi brought good news.
……………………..
It was the weekend, and Qiao Lezhi went to meet her friend. Learning what had happened to Yu Zhiyi, Qiao Lezhi was shocked, and she repeatedly said comforting words for a long time.
Yu Zhiyi also nodded repeatedly and suddenly asked, “Qiaoqiao, can you tell me about school?”
“School…” She then eagerly started to talk, especially about Shi Yi’s situation at school.
“You haven’t seen how popular Shi Yi is at school; the whole school knows him, and there are girls who come to our class to peek at him.”
“Why peeking?”
“Because Shi Yi was so amazing at school, everyone was very curious about him!”
Shi Yi’s affairs aroused Yu Zhiyi’s curiosity. When she heard others compliment him on his accomplishments, she laughed unintentionally. It was the first time she laughed after her accident, and it was seen by Shi Yi, who brought a plate of fruits.
His face became dark as he thought, ‘I’m the one who accompanies this girl the most. And I couldn’t make her laugh, but when Qiao Lezhi did it. Hmph…’
The two friends chatted, ignoring Shi Yi, which made him more irritated.
“Ah, when are you going to go?” he asked.
“Wait a moment, I haven’t finished talking with Yiyi.”
Shi Yi: “…” Looking at Yu Zhiyi’s expectant eyes, he gritted his teeth and consciously closed the door for them.
Yu Zhiyi was impatient to inquire after Shi Yi had left. “So what happened next?”
And finally, Qiao Lezhi brought up the sports meet once more, saying, “Shi Yi is kind to you, he doesn’t participate in the sports meet because he has to prepare notes for you.” Actually, Qiao Lezhi didn’t want to blame Yu Zhiyi; she just wanted to borrow Yu Zhiyi’s hand to encourage Shi Yi to participate in games.
But as soon as Qiao Lezhi’s words came out, the little girl became silent.
………………..
When Qiao Lezhi was about to go back, Shi Yi quickly opened the door for her with a smiling face. “Goodbye. Go quickly. We are not going to send you back.”
Qiao Lezhi: “…”
Yu Zhiyi waved her hand. “Qiaoqiao, see you next time.”
Qiao Lezhi: “Yes, I’ll come again.”
There were just two of them remaining at home when Qiao Lezhi departed. “Brother, has the school started to hold a sports meet?” Yu Zhiyi immediately questioned.
“Yes.”
“Then, what event did you attend this time?”
‘Qiao Lezhi’s big mouth…’ Shi Yi regretted agreeing to Qiao Lezhi’s request.
There was no response, and Yu Zhiyi didn’t get discouraged by it and said again, “My brother is good at everything. No matter what project he participates in, he will win.”
Shi Yi was stunned and then gently curled the corners of his lips. “You are really amazing. You know how to play with your brother.”
With this look and this tone, could he still refuse? But he didn’t immediately agree, and he deliberately did that because the little girl neglected him today after her friend came. This was his revenge. Shi Yi patted her head and said, “Okay, go back to the room for study.”
Their class teacher had assigned Shi Yi to hand over Yu Zhiyi’s schoolwork.
During this period of time, Shi Yi had become the most serious student in the class, and the teachers in various subjects praised him. They all said, “The student Shi Yi in Class 2 is really good, with good grades, and very serious in class!”
………………….
Soon, Yu Zhiyi found that Shi Yi hadn’t played games for a long time. He went to school in the daytime and taught her at night. It seemed that he had no free time because of her.
‘All because of me… Shi Yi rescued me, and all I brought him was endless trouble.’ Yu Zhiyi was really sad, and she didn’t know how to return the favour.
…………………..
It was a working day, and Mr. and Mrs. Shi went to work while Shi Yi went to school.
Usually, when the three members of the Shi family went out, Yu Zhiyi set the alarm according to the class time table, and she studied according to the time table. But today she didn’t do that.
After the family left, Yu Zhiyi took out a mask from the drawer and put it on, took the key, and walked to the door, where she stood for about ten minutes and finally stepped out of the door.
In October, the temperature was still high. She elected to go out in the morning. Her forehead was covered with thick bangs, and she was wearing a mask. It made her appearance a bit strange.
She still had a fear of making eye contact with others, and she still believed that she was ugly and feared that others would point at her.
‘The home is my safe haven, and nobody will notice my awful appearance.’
But at the same time, she could understand that if she continued trapping in a small place, it would seriously affect Shi Yi. ‘If I can go to school wearing a mask, Shi Yi will have time to do what he wants to do. But will they allow me to wear a mask at school?’
The heaviest scar was on the forehead, which the bangs could cover. The scar on the chin was very shallow and would not be found easily. Although the two intersecting scars on the right cheek were thin, they were visible.
Yu Zhiyi was in a dilemma. After pondering a lot, she finally took off the mask with shaky fingers.
Most of the people on the road didn’t notice Yu Zhiyi’s scars, and if someone noticed, that person looked away quickly.
Yu Zhiyi heaved a sigh of relief. It seemed that it was not as bad as she had imagined. Perhaps people were just a little surprised at first glance, but they were still acceptable. She comforted herself.
In this city, people who passed by were strangers. Even if they saw her, they didn’t care too much, which was good.
After a while of walking, her anxious heart began to calm down a bit, and bravery began to well up inside of her, urging her to go to her high school.
The young girl finally cracked a smile after waiting for so long.
Maybe she could go back to school, even if she had a strange look, but those people would just look at her twice and ignore her, right?
She looked up at the distant sky, and the bright sunshine was what she wanted.
After crossing a bridge, she had probably walked two kilometers.
Yu Zhiyi followed the same way back. The green light abruptly turned red as she was ready to cross the street. She had to wait for another minute while continuing to stand in the sun.
The temperature was a few degrees higher, her body was hot, and sweat started falling from the thick bangs.
She took out a tissue and turned her back to the passerby waiting for the green light. Then she lifted her bangs away and wiped her sweat with the tissue.
She had no idea that a child had suddenly appeared next to her, directly in front of her. The child stared at her and then started crying. “Mom, there is something ugly.”
Because of the child’s roar, passersby looked over.
The mother swiftly seized her son’s hand and moved a short distance away to escape her.
Yu Zhiyi’s mood at that time was like plummeting to the bottom of a lake in the heat. ‘Is it really so terrifying?’
Yu Zhiyi didn’t dare to ask; she quickly put down her bangs, put on a mask, and hurried away from people’s sight.
In the end, she was unable to wait for the green light to turn green before crossing the street, and she even dared not let loose with her resentments.
People were moving quickly on the sidewalks, so nobody would see the quiet little girl sobbing inconspicuously on the street corner.
‘Brother, help me!’

In the real world, we also meet some children like that. Maybe they are influenced by their parents, friends, and close people.

That is…unless the scar is really fresh and prominent, I would not expect a kid to notice it. Especially on the forehead. If it’s by your mouth that would be more understandable, but what on earth are these adults that look away and such? Who even notices and cares about healed scars on a stranger’s face?
