Absolutely Spoiled - Chapter 21.1
Chapter 21.1
The positive mindset, which Yu Zhiyi built up with great difficulty, initially slumped.
She was praying for salvation, but would other people care about such a small and weak person?
When Yu Zhiyi was unable to take a step forward, a road-cleaning aunt passed by her and heard her cry.
“Little girl, do you need any help?” The cleaning aunty asked with a kind voice.
Yu Zhiyi didn’t expect that someone would pay attention to her on the streets of this strange city. She did not speak, her voice was dumb and uncomfortable, and she couldn’t speak.
“There are no hurdles that can’t be passed. It is better to use the time spent crying to find a way to solve the problem.” The cleaning aunty said this while putting some garbage into a trash can near them.
“Child, look at the garbage on the ground. When we put them in the trash can, the street will become cleaner and more beautiful,” the cleaning aunty said.
The cleaning aunt’s words made sense. ‘Whether it is a small problem or a large problem, to solve it, you should work hard, and after that, the problem would be past tense.’
Hearing such words, Yu Zhiyi became somewhat calm. She subconsciously stopped crying and kept looking at the kind, cleaning aunt with red and swollen eyes.
“Little girl, don’t cry. If you have any problems, go home quickly, or your family will be worried.”
‘Yes, if I don’t go back, my brother, uncle, and aunt will be worried.’
Even if she failed, she wanted to go home. The home that had given her love so far.
…………………..
When Ning Suya arrived home after work, she was still pleased to see the food being prepared. First, they never thought to let Yu Zhiyi do any household work, but after the little girl secretly did chores, they understood Yu Zhiyi’s mindset and allowed her to do as she pleased.
Despite her age, Yu Zhiyi had amazing cooking skills, and after a few meals, she easily captured the hearts of their whole family.
“After eating Yiyi’s food for a while, I think we have become picky eaters.” Sometimes Ning Suya couldn’t help but joke.
Not long after Ning Suya came home, Shi Yi also came.
He entered the house and was about to change his shoes when he saw something different in a pair of white sneakers on the shoe rack. He picked them up and checked the shoe soles, and he realised Yu Zhiyi had gone out because, when they came back from the hospital that day, he saw his mother brushed the soles of shoes before placing them on the rack. Yu Zhiyi didn’t wear that pair after that, so as the soles were covered with a thin layer of dust, he could understand the meaning of it.
When Yu Zhiyi came back from the hospital after removing the stitches, she refused to step out of the house. So he thought for a while and was about to go to Yu Zhiyi’s room when Ning Suys called him.
“Xiao Yi, wash your hands quickly and call Yiyi to eat.”
“Mom, wait a minute; you eat first.” After he said that, he went to Yu Zhiyi’s room.
The little girl was copying English words.
Shi Yi stood behind her and called, “Yiyi…”
“Brother.”
Shi Yi: “What did you do today?”
Yu Zhiyi: “I studied English and some Chinese poems, and now I’m practicing English words.” She then showed her book to Shi Yi and said again, “I have finished yesterday’s homework.”
Shi Yi noticed that Yu Zhiyi had worn her bangs to cover her forehead, so he frowned slightly and questioned, “Why did you put the bangs down?”
“Um…I think this way looks better.”
“The weather has still been hot recently, and you will feel uncomfortable like this.”
“It’s okay, I haven’t felt hot yet.”
Before the sound of “hot” fell, Shi Yi suddenly reached out and touched her forehead.
This sudden action surprised Yu Zhiyi.
Shi Yi realised that Yu Zhiyi’s forehead was not covered by sweat, but he was not a fool who couldn’t understand the situation. He knew that the little girl would not reveal that she had gone out today, so he directly asked, “Did you go out today?”
“Ah…I didn’t…”
Before she could deny it, Shi Yi lowered his face and swept his piercing gaze over Yu Zhiyi’s face. “Before answering, think about it.”
Yu Zhiyi thought for a second, lowered her head, rubbed her fingers together, and replied in a low voice, “I have gone out.”
“When?”
“Eight thirty.”
‘You know how to pick time. You deliberately chose the time. Luckily, you came back safely. If something happens, what should I do?’ “Then, where did you go?”
“Just walk around.”
“Why don’t you tell us when you go out?” When he asked the question, he was already a little angry. He was angry because she didn’t believe him.
Unexpectedly, this time the little girl asked, “Does my brother think I can’t go out like this?”
He gritted his teeth tightly. “Yu Zhiyi, I’m very mad at you! Don’t you know what I think?”
“I’m sorry, brother.” She suddenly turned around, holding his wrist with her little hand, and replied slowly, “It is because of you that I went out today.
“Because of me?” Shi Yi was a little flattered when he suddenly felt strong affection.
“I know that there are people in this world who treat me very, very well and who want me to live better, so I can’t let them down because some people are cruel to me.”
‘Brother, you are the light that shines on my gloomy path and gives me the confidence to face the world.’
………………………….
Since supper, Shi Yi has accompanied Yu Zhiyi out.
She still wasn’t fully confident. She covered her forehead with her bangs but didn’t wear a mask.
She walked ahead, and Shi Yi would always be three metres away from her, as per Yu Zhiyi’s request. She said back then, “Brother, I will be more noticeable when I walk with you.”
He didn’t care a single bit about what others might think, but he agreed with her, hoping Yu Zhiyi would be more comfortable this way.
Strangers generally did not pay too much attention to passersby, so as long as she didn’t stay in the same place for too long, she would not get the attention of others. Yu Zhiyi thought. She remembered the first day she walked alone in this city. She was not familiar with the route of this city at all, but she still walked out, and she hadn’t lost her way. At that time, she was very determined to remember road signs and directions. But she was very scared that day.
Looking at Shi Yi, who was three meters behind her, Yu Shiyi was at ease and less anxious.
She felt happy that he was with her, but she was apprehensive since she was unsure of where to go. At the same time, she was thinking, ‘Brother has never been to this location. What if he gets lost?’
Shi Yi, who was standing three meters behind her, approached her at this point and said, “It doesn’t matter if you get lost. Your brother will take you home,” he said as he gently patted her head.
A sense of security suddenly engulfed Yu Zhiyi’s entire body.
‘Perhaps “brother” was the warmest word in the English language’, she reflected.
Shi Yi glanced at the road signs and said, “We will go back by subway.”
“Ok, it is good.” Yu Zhiyi agreed.
Even though Yu Zhiyi agreed with Shi Yi, she felt very anxious and was not willing. But when she remembered that she had to face so many students at school in the future, she decided to take a step forward.
They entered the subway train with the crowd, and they stood together. Shi Yi held the ring handle, but Yu Zhiyi couldn’t hold it because she was not tall enough. So Shi Yi wrapped his hand around her waist to prevent her from being unstable.
A girl, who was sitting in front of them slowly raised her phone. It was like she was playing a mobile game, but Shi Yi realised the angle of holding the phone was a bit strange. So he glanced at her with cold eyes, and the girl put down the phone with a guilty look. ‘There must be a ghost in her heart,’ he thought.
After they came to their destination, Shi Yi held YuZhiyi’s hand and got off the train.
“Yiyi, do you want water?” Shi Yi asked while they were passing by a small shop.
“Want!”
“Then wait here, your brother will buy it for you.”
He dashed to the little store, grabbed two water bottles from the fridge, and gave them to the shop clerk to scan the barcode to complete the transaction.
At this time, three boys in a group walked out of the small shop and saw a long-haired girl standing near the shop. One of them ran to Yu Zhiyi’s side and peeped into her face.
Yu Zhiyi got scared by the boy who suddenly appeared and raised her head to see who had come.
Seeing Yu Zhiyi’s face, the boy got scared and ran back to his friends while shouting, “She is an ugly girl… Whoever looks at her will get their eyes pricked by needles.”
“Sh*t!” Shi Yi, who heard those words, hurried out of the shop and smashed that unruly boy’s back with an unopened bottle.
The three boys circled Shi Yi instantly to beat him, but he didn’t give them a chance as he grabbed the boy and kicked his knee while threatening, “You two dare to move; I promise to break his hand!”
Seeing Shi Yi’s fiercer look, the other two got scared and didn’t dare to move recklessly.
Seeing the scene, Yu Zhiyi came there and was about to speak, but Shi Yi’s eyes stopped her.
“Apologise to her,” Shi Yi commanded while twisting the boy’s arm forcefully.
The boy wanted to resist, but he had no power to fight back, so he could only say, “I’m sorry,” in a small voice.
The boy’s tone infuriated Shi Yi, who increased his strength. “I heard you curse people very loudly just now; are you dumb now?”
The boy yelled in pain. “I’m sorry!”
“Roll.”
Yu Zhiyi had never seen such a “tyranny Shi Yi” before. In her impression, Shi Yi always had been an older brother who was as warm as the sun, and she felt at ease when he guarded her.
Seeing the three boys running away, Yu Zhiyi came out of her shock and looked at Shi Yi carefully. “Are you alright, brother?”
He stroked the wrinkles of his shirt and returned to his usual calm and gentle appearance. “Brother is fine.”
After exhaling a breath of relief, Yu Zhiyi picked up the water that had just fallen to the ground and stopped talking. She would not ask Shi Yi why he became like that just now because she knew that everything Shi Yi did was to protect her.
Just now, when he heard someone say bad things about her, he didn’t hesitate to smash the water bottle into that person. Although he was irritable, she seemed to see a warrior guarding herself.
Shi Yi knew that Yu Zhiyi was very sensitive to such words, so he didn’t forget to comfort her. “Yiyi, don’t care about that.”
Yu Zhiyi slowly raised her hand and gently touched the scar on her cheek. “I know, brother.”
‘I’m not afraid, because I know that whenever I look back, you are behind me.’
