Chapter 34.1

As Shi Yi agreed with Yu Zhiyi, the original harmonious atmosphere was broken, and everyone didn’t know how to persuade them.

Under Yu Zhiyi’s pleading gaze, Shi Yi made a decision. “You guys play; I’ll take her home first.”

“Brother Yi, we haven’t finished this fight yet.” They needed Shi Yi, a captain with sharp skills, to win the game.

Shi Yi quit the game and said, “I won’t play anymore.”

“Shi Yi, I don’t want you to abandon your teammates like this. Let’s leave after the fight. It will only take ten minutes. Yu Zhiyi will agree, right?” Jiang Yuran looked at Shi Yi and then at Yu Zhiyi; her eyes flicked back and forth between the two of them.

“You can’t let my little girl wait for me for more than ten minutes, can you?” Shi Yi smiled, took out a hundred-yuan note from his wallet, and put it on the table. “The three hours today are all covered by me. I’m sorry.”

He chose Yu Zhiyi without hesitation, and regardless of others’ attempts to keep him, he naturally took her hand and left the noisy place.

As soon as they walked out of the Internet cafe, the air felt fresh, and Yu Zhiyi took a big breath of relief. ‘I think Internet cafes are boring and not very comfy.’

Shi Yi saw something on the little girl’s wrist, and he looked at it and realised that the bell on the red string looked familiar.

When Yu Zhiyi saw that Shi Yi was paying attention to her wrist, she raised her hand and said, “Look, I found the bell you gave me when I was little.”

When she started first grade, she went to the playground to play with her friends. She was taken to the office by her teacher by mistake. Shi Yi searched for her and then hurried into the office, sweating a lot, and wanted to ask the teacher for help because he didn’t realise the teacher had taken her until later.

After that happened, Shi Yi was scared she would get lost, so he tied a bell on her wrist, and it made noise when she walked.

But the bell was too loud, and it had to be taken out.

So Shi Yi tried to make her feel better by giving her a bell that didn’t make any noise.

Over time, the straps got old and worn out, so she removed them and kept them. After finding it again, she could remember the events from the past very well.

Remembering the past incident of seeing the familiar bell, Shi Yi lifted the little girl’s hand, turned it around, and when he saw the red knot, he quickly said, “It’s very pretty.”

She said, “My brother gave Yiyi the nicest things.”

Hearing those words, Shi Yi felt uncomfortable in his heart because he knew that now he was doing things that the little girl didn’t like.

 Yu Zhiyi saw that Shi Yi didn’t look good and sighed in front of him, saying, “I’m really sorry. I really wanted to see my brother, so I came home sooner than expected.”

“Yiyi…” The young man looked more unhappy when he heard her say that.

He didn’t want her to say sorry, especially not for something like this.

The two of them walked slowly and without a specific destination, and they walked into the park without saying anything to each other.

People were walking by, and as they went further in, there were fewer people.

Finally, both of them stood in front of a lake, feeling the cold February wind.

 They both stood by the lake and did not talk. She removed her hands from her pockets, and the wind was so cold that her fingers got stiff because of it.

Shi Yi took the little girl’s cold hands and felt very worried. “Let’s go back,” he said.

“No, I believe the cold wind can wake people up more,” she insisted. She stood straight, even though the cold wind made her instinctively shrug her shoulders.

“Is my brother doing things that make you happy now? she asked.

Shi Yi looked down and felt the cold air around him make his eyes hurt. He asked, “What do you want to know?”

Yu Zhiyi moved her head from side to side and said, “I don’t know why you did that, but I can tell that you are not happy.”

“Before the final exam, you chose to leave me at home on purpose. You were hiding it from me, so I acted like I didn’t know because I didn’t want to judge you for going to an Internet cafe and smoking. You can choose something good or bad. And even now, I can’t stop you.” Yu Zhiyi looked at him. “If you do these things but they don’t make you happy, then it means they don’t matter to you.”

The little girl, who had low self-esteem and was scared to speak up, had gained confidence now. And it was because of Shi Yi.

Shi Yi rescued her from the sticky mud. And now she was brave enough to help other people.

Yu Zhiyi looked deeply into his eyes and said, “I want people to praise you and be proud of you when they talk about you instead of hearing that you were at an Internet cafe playing games and smoking.”

When they looked at each other, Shi Yi didn’t say anything for a little bit. Then he lifted her head, rubbed her head, and breathed out a cold breath. “I know what to do.”

He decided to take out the cigarette case and lighter from his coat pocket and give them to Yu Zhiyi. “I won’t disappoint you, Yiyi.”

This time, he completely released his grip.

Yu Zhiyi held onto these two things tightly, with a genuine smile in her eyes.

She pulled her neck back and took the lead by holding Shi Yi’s hand. “Brother, it’s really cold outside. Let’s go home.”

Later on, many people asked Shi Yi why he didn’t smoke. He gave a very easy answer.

“I can’t bear to be separated from her.”
