Shi Yi applied to study computer programming, so even though the university had not yet begun, he bought a lot of computer-related books online and spent every day studying in front of the computer.

Yu Zhiyi, meanwhile, sequestered herself in her bedroom to pen her novels.

When Yu Zhiyi heard this, she was too nervous to respond. She waved her hands briskly, unwilling to meet Shi Yi’s eyes. “I made an appointment with Tingyu,” she declared. “No, no, no. You find it difficult to accompany us, brother.”

Shi Yi gave Yu Zhiyi a faint grin and gave her a more curious glance. ‘She is really secretive.’

As they had arranged earlier, Yu Zhiyi met Wen Tingyu at the city centre square on time.

Seeing her friend, Yu Zhiyi almost couldn’t recognise Wen Tingyu when she saw her with curly hair.

“Tingyu, when did you get curly hair?”

“Only a couple of days ago.”

“Wow! It looks nice.”

Wen Tingyu raised her hand and touched her curls, saying, “Really? I just wanted to try it, but I’m glad it didn’t turn into a disaster.”

 ‘Going to a hairdresser to get your hair done was like taking a risk. A good haircut would emphasise your beauty, while a terrible one would hinder you from going out. Fortunately, Wen Tingyu appears to have nice hair. Her face and her curling black hair gave her an elegant yet vintage appearance. But…I still think her glasses were a little…’

Thinking that Yu Zhiyi pointed at her friend’s glasses and asked tentatively, “Tingyu, what if you try taking off your glasses?”

“I need to buy new contact lenses today because I lost the ones I had at home,” Wen Tingyu said as she carefully stroked the spectacles with her hand. “Yes! Let’s go then.”

There were many different things to buy at the downtown mall; therefore, Yu Zhiyi had already made a list of items she wanted to buy.

They visited the beauty supply store first.

Girls loved beauty, especially when they were seventeen or eighteen years old. They liked to put a lot of effort into showcasing their beauty.

Since Ximiao, the beauty blogger, was following her book, Yu Zhiyi also began to follow the beauty blogger. Therefore, influenced by Ximiao, Yu Zhiyi wanted to use makeup for herself.

Ximiao was a college student who, due to her fun nature and expertise in makeup application, became very popular. She frequently shared her beauty tips online as a beauty blogger. Of course, one of the main advantages was her attractive face.

On Weibo, Ximiao frequently posted makeup experiments and tutorials, and Yu Zhiyi was keen to learn more.

Well-suited makeup could make a person more radiant and give them more confidence. Now that Yu Zhiyi was going to step into a new chapter in her life, she wanted to feel good.

More importantly, she wanted to look prettier before Shi Yi’s 18th birthday.

Wen Tingyu was also interested in wearing makeup. So she went to the store with her friend excitedly. 

The store clerk gave some suggestions, and the two friends were impressed by what they saw.

“Miss, you could buy skin lotions and sunscreen. It was very important to have good skin. If you have healthy skin, applying makeup will make you more beautiful.”

“Hm…”

“If your skin is lighter, you can use this makeup that makes you look brighter and whiter.”

Yu Zhiyi chose to maintain her skin’s natural glow since she disliked the way it turned white.

“The foundation powder is lightweight, easy to use, and has a long shelf life.”

“Okay, thank you.”

“Hm… I need to buy eye shadow and lipstick.” After considering the items she still needed to purchase, Yu Zhiyi decided to check out the palette of eye shadows.

The colours in the eyeshadow palette were really pretty. Yu Zhiyi bought a normal pink colour, and Wen Tingyu picked a warm orange colour.

“Now it’s time to buy lipsticks…”Wen Tingyu cheerfully said.

“This lipstick looks good on you.”

“I really like this colour; it’s like a strawberry.”

“The bean paste colour is also good; it tastes sweet but not oily.”

“I like this old-fashioned red colour; it feels lightweight and nice.”

The two chose what they wanted and paid for it. Then they couldn’t wait to apply them.

“My lips are dry, so I need a lip balm before applying anything else.”

“Let’s purchase it.” The two students still didn’t have a lot of money, so they didn’t buy big-brand cosmetics. They only spent a few hundred yuan in total.

After they bought a bunch of stuff, a person working at the store helped them shape their eyebrows using a brown eyebrow pencil. Of course, the store didn’t charge money for that.

Yu Zhiyi had flawless skin, and after applying makeup, her skin looked better than it had previously. 

Along with Wen Tingyu, Yu Zhiyi purchased a box of daily contact lenses and a pair of quarterly disposable contact lenses from a spectacles store.

Wen Tingyu took off her glasses and wore the contact lenses. With red lipstick on her lips, she felt like she was a little lady.

Yu Zhi selected a bright red strawberry-flavoured lipstick to apply now, and they exchanged glances as though they had stumbled into a brand-new world.
