Absolutely Spoiled - Chapter 55

Chapter 55 – Tingyu x Luobai 1
July
“Boom——”
Despite the hot season, it started to rain in Heng City.
Some clothes fell out of the balcony railing because of the strong wind.
Wen Tingyu rushed back home, quickly changed her shoes at the door, opened the balcony French window, and collected her clothes hurriedly.
The rain in summer was an unexpected situation, and Wen Tingyu was soaked by the rain.
She hung up the clothes on the clothes railing inside the house before going to take a bath.
Ten minutes later, the young woman came out of the bathroom wrapped in a bath towel. Her long hair was wrapped in a striped absorbent cap, and she was wiping the water droplets off her body.
Suddenly, the phone on the coffee table started to ring.
Wen Tingyu bent down and grabbed it. After looking at the name displayed on the screen, she clicked on the answer button and put the phone on her ear without saying a word.
A woman’s earnest request came from the other side. “Tingyu, next week is your father’s birthday; can you… take some time to come back and see him?”
Wen Tingyu didn’t reply.
“Mmm… His current condition is getting worse and worse. You are his only daughter, and he misses you.”
Her response was simple and bland. “Not necessarily.” Then she ended the call.
After the call, her mood became gloomy, just like outside.
It was her stepmother who called her from Yunyang City a little while ago.
Her stepmother wished Wen Tingyu could return to see her biological father, Wen Bin, who was approaching his 50th birthday.
Her parents divorced while she was in her sophomore year of junior high school, giving her father custody of her.
She was naive and even entertained the idea of reconciling her parents, but her mother passed away from illness shortly after, with her family claiming that she was depressed.
Tears poured, one by one, as she knelt before her mother’s body.
She was in shock that the woman who had once cradled her in her arms and taught her how to read poetry had vanished from her life. She felt depressed and alone, and she looked to her father for comfort.
But a month later, her father returned with another woman and informed Wen Tingyu that Aunt Ren would now be her mother from now on.
Wen Tingyu looked in shock at the pair. She couldn’t believe her father would welcome another woman as soon as her mother passed away.
Not long after that woman came, Wen Tingyu learned that the woman was Wen Bin’s first love and that they had been acquainted for a considerable amount of time.
Therefore, the relationship between the father and daughter cracked.
However, during her three years of high school, the resentment she had felt at the beginning slowly subsided, and her relationship with Wen Bin also improved.
However, Wen Bin once again let her down in the name of “I’m doing this for your own good” in the year that she passed the college admission exam.
In an attempt to leave her former life behind, she applied to Hengshi University.
Now she was in her junior year’s summer break.
Day after the phone call, she received a report from her stepmother on Wen Bin’s physical test.
It was a scan report showing a terrific situation.
Three days later, Wen Tingyu set out on the journey back to Yunyang City.
*****
Wen Bin was unable to celebrate turning fifty.
Surgery was necessary to remove a tumour in his brain, but there were hidden risks.
“Come in.”
Wen Tingyu hadn’t expected the tall man to be the first person to catch her attention; her original objective had been to ask about Wen Bin’s illness.
Standing in front of Dr. Zhao’s desk with a notebook in his hand was a young guy wearing the white coat of an intern.
The man had a distinct and calm demeanour. He wore a white coat, of course, but in a very different style.
The young intern was someone she knew before.
Dr. Zhao saw that Wen Tingyu was fixating on the intern without flinching. To get her attention, Dr. Zhao gave a slight cough. “Excuse me, what can I do for you?”
With a calm and still demeanour, Wen Tingyu removed her eyes from the man. As she didn’t know that person, she talked to her father’s attending doctor. “Greetings, Dr. Zhao. I want to talk to you about my dad, Wen Bin.”
The man with the straight back tensed up just as Wen Tingyu was about to speak, and the black signing pen that was between his fingers dropped onto the notepad, making a deep stain.
Wen Tingyu appeared to have forgotten about the person standing next to her and instead focused on discussing Wen Bin’s condition with Dr. Zhao.
Shen Luobai did not even look up as he stood there frozen in place.
After discussing about her father, Wen Tingyu had already stood up, and the two looked at each other.
After just a few seconds, Shen Luobai looked away and turned his back, as if what had just happened had never happened.
Wen Tingyu stared at his back closely.
She always thought she had let it go, but she didn’t expect that it would only take a moment for that cold and lonely heart to be rekindled.
She followed the man into an elevator. When the elevator door was about to close, Wen Tingyu was the last one to squeeze in.
Of course Shen Luobai noticed her and frowned slightly.
Because Wen Tingyu got in last, she was the first one out of the elevator.
Wen Tingyu stood at the elevator entrance and waited for Shen Luobai to appear last.
“Don’t follow me,” he said.
“Shen Luobai.” She called out his full name solemnly.
Shen Luobai stopped and heard the girl’s voice behind him again.
Wen Tingyu said, “You shouldn’t help me.”
Shen Luobai closed his eyes, then opened them again and replied calmly, “There won’t be a next time.”
“Tsk,” Wen Tingyu let out a laugh. “But you’ve already taken action. I can’t pretend that this incident never happened.”
She bravely approached him, stood in front of him, and said clearly word by word, “So, Shen Luobai, what you said three years ago is no longer valid.”
