Absolutely Spoiled - Chapter 6

Chapter 6
The Yu family couple had decided to stay for half a month, and it made all the other members happy, especially Yu Zhiyi. She took her new stationery items, which her mother gave her to school. Seeing the new pencil case, Yu Zhiyi’s deskmate exclaimed, “Yiyi, this pencil case is so pretty, where did you buy it? I want to buy one too!”
“Mom bought it from another place.”
“Okay!”
Yu Zhiyi’s current deskmate was the little girl with the mushroom head back then. Her name was Qiao Lezhi.
“Tomorrow is your birthday, right? But tomorrow is a Saturday, so I’ll give the gift today,” Qiao Lezhi said after she took a transparent bag from her bag. “I wish you a happy birthday in advance.”
“Thank you, Qiao Qiao.”
They were in the same class for six years and had a good relationship with Qiao Lezhi. Although it was a small gift, it was very precious to Yu Zhiyi.
………………………
Shi Yi asked Yu Zhiyi how she planned to celebrate her birthday tomorrow on the way home. “Your parents are back this year, they want to celebrate your birthday, right?”
“Yeah, Mom and Dad also said they would buy me a birthday cake.”
“Oh, I don’t need to buy it this year.”
In previous years, Grandma didn’t buy her a birthday cake, saying it would be better to buy chicken, duck meat, and fish to prepare a big meal rather than buying a cake. But all the children expected to eat cake for their birthday, and it was not a birthday if they didn’t eat cake. So Shi Yi took out his pocket money to buy her a small cake in other years.
Because her parents had promised her a big birthday cake, Yu Zhiyi was full of joy, and she was eager to share it with many people. “Brother, come to my house tomorrow with Aunt Ning and Uncle to eat cake.”
“Ok,” Shi Yi said while nodding his head.
“No problem! Mom and Dad said that tomorrow they will go to the city to buy food, and we will have dinner at night.”
This was the first birthday that her parents would celebrate for her personally in seven years, and Yu Zhiyi was very happy, so she got up early in the morning the next day.
While having breakfast, she heard her parents discussing what to buy in the city later and her mother saying that they should buy a cake and gifts. Hearing that, Yu Zhiyi felt she was on cloud nine.
When Yu Kai and Ruan Qing went out, Yu Zhiyi’s younger sister, Yu Xinyan, wanted to go with her parents, so they had to take the clingy little guy with them. Yu Zhiyi, who had a lot of homework, had to stay at home to do it.
When she was doing homework, her grandma came with an egg and rolled it on her body and said, “Eat this egg, you will be safe and healthy.”
Every birthday, Grandma would do this, saying it would bring good luck. Yu Zhiyi liked this custom of celebrating because it indicated that she had received birthday wishes.
After Grandma went away, Yu Zhiyi started her work again, and by the time she finished her homework, it was already afternoon. Then she went to the door and looked outside to see whether her parents were coming. ‘When will you come back?’ She waited there for some time, but they never came back until it was already getting dark.
Then a phone call came. It was her parents. “Mom, Yanyan suddenly fell ill. We are in the hospital. You can take Yiyi and finish your meal first. Don’t wait for us.” This was what her parents on the other end of the phone said to her grandmother.
“Is the child okay?” Grandma got frightened.
“Acute gastroenteritis, the doctor has prescribed medicine, don’t worry,” Ruan Qing said.
Yu Zhiyi heard what her mother said from the other side of the phone, but she still asked her grandmother, “What’s wrong with my sister?”
Grandma touched Yu Zhiyi’s head and sighed. “Your sister is sick, they may come back later. Are you hungry? Grandma will cook for you first.”
Watching Grandma enter the kitchen, Yu Zhiyi felt bitter in her heart, and she couldn’t explain the feeling.
………………..
By the time the Shi family couple returned home from work, it was already dark. Seeing that Shi Yi was home, Ning Suya put down her bag and walked towards him. “Today is Yiyi’s birthday, why are you at home alone?”
“I don’t know, it seems Yiyi’s parents haven’t come back yet.” He sneaked across to look twice, but he didn’t hear any movement in Yu’s house.
As soon as the words fell, a small head popped out of the door that still hadn’t closed.
Dad Shi spotted Yu Zhiyi and called her, “Yiyi, come in quickly.”
Yu Zhiyi pursed her lips, took two steps into the house, looked at the three of them, and immediately lowered her head to apologise. “Uncle, aunt, brother, I’m sorry, my parents haven’t come back yet, so I can’t treat you for the time being.” As she couldn’t fulfill her promise, she was very upset.
Shi’s father and Shi’s mother didn’t expect the little girl’s appearance to be an apology to them and immediately said, “Oh, it’s not a big deal. Where did your parents go?”
“They went to the city to buy something.”
“Then they must still be buying things for Yiyi. They will come back later.” They thought the child was in a hurry to celebrate her birthday, so they coaxed her with pleasant words.
Yu Zhiyi lowered her head, neither agreeing nor refuting.
Shi’s father and Shi’s mother knew her temperament well, the two of them smiled and went into the kitchen to start preparing dinner.
Without the adult’s attention, she walked slowly towards Shi Yi and called out, “Brother.”
Shi Yi then put down the game console in his hand, rubbed her head, and said, “Let’s get your present. It’s in my room.” And both of them went to his room.
Shi Yi pointed to a book, motioning for her to go and get it.
The name of the book was printed as “The Book of Answers”. “Brother, can this be my gift?” Yu Zhiyi asked with doubt. Actually, she didn’t like to read books, so she never expected that Shi Yi would present her with a book.
“Hmm.” Shi Yi raised his chin without denying it.
Yu Zhiyi wanted to cry without tears. “Can I not accept this gift?”
Shi Yi’s eyelids twitched, he could completely guess what this little idiot was thinking at the moment. “Open it and have a look.”
Under Shi Yi’s instruction, Yu Zhiyi obediently turned the page. On the first page, some instructions were written like this: “Clamp the book with both hands, close your eyes, concentrate on thinking about the problem, turn the pages of the book from back to front, and find the answer you need based on your own feelings.”
“Huh…” It seemed that this book was different from what she had imagined.
“Do you want to try?” Shi Yi asked her.
But for a while, she didn’t seem to be able to think of any problems.
Shi Yi: “Just ask, when will a little idiot become smart?”
“Book of Answers”: [No one can guarantee]
Yu Zhiyi: “…”
Yu Zhiyi snatched the book back, clasped her hands, closed her eyes, and asked, “Let me ask, have you won the game?”
“Book of Answers”: [Never]
“Hahaha.” Seeing this answer, the girl immediately felt balanced. But she knew that Shi Yi was very smart and could win every game, so the answer in this book was incorrect.
She pointed to the book and said, “Brother, the content of this book has nothing to do with the question!”
Seeing her smug expression, Shi Yi smiled and replied calmly, “It’s true that it can’t tell you the correct answer, but it can help you find the right answer. When you open this book, the answer you will get is what you subconsciously want to see.”
Yu Zhiyi returned home with a gift and made room for this magical book. As soon as it was put on, she opened it and asked a question silently.
The answer given in “The Book of Answers” was: [Of course]
…………………
At around eight o’clock in the evening, Grandma made another phone call to ask about her younger granddaughter and learned that they would come back now.
After nine o’clock in the evening, Yu Zhiyi was a little sleepy while waiting and still guarded the door.
“Yiyi, go to bed first.”
She shook her head stubbornly. “I want to wait for Mom, Dad, and my sister.” She wanted to know about her sister, and of course, she wanted to see the gifts and the birthday cake that her parents would bring.
At half past nine, Yu Kai and Ruan Qing finally came back with their little daughter.
Grandma went and asked, “Is Yanyan okay?”
“It’s okay, she took the medicine prescribed by the doctor and fell asleep on the way back.”
Yu Zhiyi was not the kind of talkative child. Hearing that her mother had already answered “My sister is fine”, she didn’t ask about her sister’s situation again. Her eyes moved to the bags brought back by her parents.
Ruan Qing casually put the things on the table, and Yu Kai carried their little daughter to their room. Grandma and Yu Zhiyi also followed them. Yu Zhiyi saw her father put her sister on the bed, and her mother would carefully twist the quilt for her sister. Afraid of waking up the sister, they all went outside to talk.
Grandma asked about the reason for the child’s illness, and Ruan Qing explained, “When we went shopping in the city today, Yanyan saw the delicious foods and wanted to eat them, but she got sick after eating. We didn’t know it was acute gastroenteritis until we went to the hospital for an examination, and we were terrified at the time.”
“Then what about the cakes and gifts you bought for Yiyi?” Grandma asked.
“We didn’t have time. We didn’t expect it would take so long,” Ruan Qing replied.
Grandma knew that Yu Zhiyi had been waiting all day, so she hardly dared to look at the child’s disappointment.
Ruan Qing glanced at the time and reminded her, “Yiyi, why haven’t you slept yet? It’s almost ten o’clock, go back to the room and go to sleep, it’s not good for children to go to bed late.” Ruan Qing also blurted out words of concern for the children, but none of them knew what she really wanted.
Yu Zhi held back her tears and ran back to her room. She was sad and a little angry, but she didn’t know who to blame. To be precise, she didn’t seem to blame anyone.
‘Mom and Dad forgot their promise because my sister was sick, but why… just at this time?” She had been looking forward to celebrating her birthday with her parents for seven years, but in the end, it was…
