Shi’s family had already finished dinner around seven thirty in the evening, and Shi Yi wanted to see if the opposite yard was bustling with birthday celebrations, so he peeked from the window from time to time. But he didn’t see anything special.

When Ning Suya came to pick him up, she saw her son sitting in the shop with a cake, and the two thanked the kind shop owner before leaving.

Outside the yard, Shi Yi said, “Mom, I’ll go and give the cake to Yiyi.”

Ning Suya knew the friendship between the two children and said with a smile, “Go, come back early.”

Shi Yi closed the door, switched on the light, and looked at the face in front of him. There were traces of tears wiped from the corners of Yu Zhiyi’s eyes. Shi Yi sighed and asked in a soft voice, “Crying?”

Yu Zhiyi said no but looked away guiltily.

Shi Yi probably guessed the reason, then he leaned on the table and asked again, “Why are you crying?”

Shi Yi didn’t want Yu Zhiyi to hide her grievances in her heart. If she held back once, there might be another time, and it would continue to cause terrible damage to the little girl.

Yu Zhiyi took a few steps towards him and asked in a low voice, “Brother, why are you here?”

“Don’t you want to see me?”

Yu Zhiyi: “No.”

Shi Yi: “That’s why you want to see me.”

Yu Zhiyi: “…” ‘What is the logic behind that?’

“Yiyi, you haven’t answered my question yet.” He looked at her with a deep expression, like an adult.

“Yiyi, they are your parents. If you feel unhappy, you can tell them directly,” Shi Yi replied.

You treat your sister well because you want to.  And there’s nothing wrong with getting presents and blessings on your birthday. As long as you haven’t done anything wrong, you don’t have to worry about what other people think of you,” Shi Yi, who clearly understood Yu Zhiyi’s thoughts, said softly. 

Yu Zhiyi slowly lowered her head and muttered, “I’m just a little sad.”

“Don’t be sad, I brought you a gift.”

“Ah? But I’ve already received the gift from you.”

Shi Yi smiled at Yu Zhiyi, took the cake from the bag, and showed it to Yu Zhiyi.

Yu Zhi’s eyes lit up instantly! “It’s a cake!”

“Of course, I promised to let you eat a birthday cake every year, and I will never break my promise.”

“Thank you, brother!” She hugged Shi Yi tightly, unable to hide the emotion and joy in her heart.

“Hush, let’s light the candles quietly. This is a birthday cake for Yiyi.” He deliberately lowered his voice.

The moment the candle was lit, Yu Zhiyi’s heart filled with happiness. She closed her eyes and made a wish. She remembered that when the two of them asked whether she would get a cake for her birthday, the answer she got from the “Book of Answers” was “Yes.”
