Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 22.2

Chapter 22.2
It would be challenging to apprehend Liu Qiangshan since he was a highly talented and elusive man. Additionally, his clients were also very powerful people.
Ji Yao was the only member of Nanquan City’s criminal police force who had ever interacted with him. It was Ji Yao who made the cut beneath Liu Qiangshan’s ear.
Ji Yao took out Liu Qiangshan’s photo from his document bag and showed it to the farmer. “Is it him?”
The farmer nodded. “Yes, it’s him. This pervert eats human blood.”
“Last week,” the farmer told Zhao Jingjing after reprimanding the murderer, “I heard that the youngest son of the Qiao family, who raised pigs in the next town, was drained of blood by a vampire after dying. I…could not have eaten his blood, right?”
With a nod, Ji Yao said, “The answer is yes.”
The farmer’s face became white like paper. After he made up his mind, he said to Zhao Jingjing, “Captain, you must catch this person; otherwise, I will not be able to bear this attack.”
Zhao Jingjing, who was mistaken for the leader for the n+1 time, replied, “Don’t worry. We will do our best.”
Ji Yao asked Zhao Jingjing to take the five police officers and go to the scene.
After sending the farmer home, the six police officers divided into three groups and went to search Liu Qiangshan’s whereabouts.
They questioned so many people and searched so many places, but they didn’t get any useful clues until the sun went down.
The area around Lotus Mountain was a bit remote.
There were only two cameras at the entrance of the village, and unfortunately, they were broken.
Ji Yao originally had no hope of arresting Liu Qiangshan this time. Previously, twenty Interpol police officers worked together to catch Liu Qiangshan, but it was in vain.
It was finally time to get off work, and Ji Yao was the first to walk out of the office.
Leaning against a pillar of the City Bureau building, he waited for Han Xi to accompany her home.
Many of his coworkers were passing by, but he didn’t see the person he wanted to see.
Thirty minutes later, Ji Yao took the lift to the forensic office.
No one was there in the office, but the lights of the autopsy room were on, and Han Xi’s bag was still on her table.
‘She should be busy.’ Thinking that Ji Yao sat on Han Xi’s chair and waited for her.
Like her, Han Xi’s desktop was neat and uncluttered, free of unnecessary ornamentation. Apart from a few folders, there was only a small pot of cactus next to the computer.
He extended his palm and poked the cactus’s tiny thorns.
“Do you have ADHD, or do you like to be abused?”
Hearing that, Ji Yao turned around and saw Han Xi standing behind him. He laughed before replying, “I just thought it was fun to see if the thorns on it can really prick my hands.” Ji Yao stretched out his hand and said, “I didn’t expect it would be painful.”
Han Xi: “Then just feel the pain.”
“It doesn’t matter if it hurts me, but I’m afraid someone will feel sorry for me,” Ji Yao said, blowing up his fingers.
‘You think so highly about yourself.’ Half a minute later, Han Xi said, “Get up. I have to use the computer.”
Ji Yao stood up and leaned against the table to pull out the thorns on his hands. The thorns were too small and broke when he touched them. He couldn’t pull them out easily, and he screamed in pain. When he shouted, he secretly looked at Han Xi.
After completing her task, Han Xi shut down the computer and grabbed a tiny set of tweezers from the toolbox next to her, saying, “Reach out your hand.”
Ji Yao raised the corners of his lips and replied, “You still say you don’t feel bad, but you have a hard mouth and a soft heart.”
Han Xi: “I dislike you. You are too noisy.”
She lowered her head and pulled out the cactus thorns on Ji Yao’s hand. After pulling out the last one, she raised her head and met Ji Yao’s eyes.
His eyes were heavy and deep as he stared at her, like though he were addicted to some mysterious and lovely scene.
Their eyes collided together, making fireworks explode between them. Huge winds and waves carried the detonated fireworks, which were dispersed and travelling at the speed of light.
Suddenly, the world went quiet.
Ji Yao’s heart was beating too fast, and it reminded him that he wanted the woman in front of him in his life and he wanted to keep her safe for the rest of her life.
His lips twitched, but a string of ringtones from a cell phone interrupted him before he could say anything.
After waking up from the endearing scene, Han Xi ducked out of Ji Yao’s line of sight, picked up her cell phone, and moved aside to take the call.
Han Xi returned from answering the phone, picked up the bag from the table, and went to the door.
Ji Yao trailed behind her, maintaining a distance that was neither near nor distant.
They could hear each other’s footsteps, but neither of them talked.
Both of them felt something hot in the air that made them a bit strange.
Han Xi raised her head after they arrived at the gate and said, “Goodbye.”
After giving her a quick glance, Ji Yao remarked, “Let’s go together.” His throat tightened as he spoke, and he became aware that his voice was already a little raspy. “I’m helping my cousin by looking after the house.”
With a hum, Han Xi kept moving forward.
On the way back to the Xiang Xueting apartment complex, they needed to pass through a small alley.
Upon entering the alley, Han Xi noticed that the atmosphere between them had changed subtly, and Ji Yao’s eyes no longer followed her closely. It seemed he was distracted by something.
She truly felt the sadness in her heart, even though she had no idea why he had changed so abruptly.
“Beauty,” Ji Yao said with a smile as they reached the door of her house. “You must close the doors and windows when you sleep. Otherwise, I’m afraid I won’t be able to control my overflowing love,” he said with a wink. “Close the doors and windows. Don’t open the door to anyone.”
This sentence succeeded in irritating Han Xi. She slammed the door, locked it, and even closed the windows.
After making sure she was safe, Ji Yao put away his act of recklessness. His expression immediately went serious, and he turned to return to the alley while sending Zhao Jingjing a message.
Walking to the alley’s entrance, Ji Yao said to the darkness, “Everyone, come out.”
