Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 23.1

Chapter 23.1
Five tall and strong men emerged from the shadows. The person who seemed to be the leader was holding a big wooden staff nailed with steel.
The nails shone coldly under the dim streetlight, like a sharp knife spitting a layer of venom.
Upon seeing that, Ji Yao took out his small Swiss Army knife hidden in his waist. He was keeping that with him for self-defence.
He had made a lot of enemies over the past few years after he joined the police. Therefore, it was normal for him to face such a situation.
Ji Yao took two steps forward and looked at the five people.
He sensed that their personalities were distinct from those of typical gangsters, and they all felt like strangers to him. They had calm expressions on their faces and looked like they had received professional training to fight.
“Have you thought about it clearly?” Ji Yao asked, lifting the corners of his lips after examining the five men. “It is a major crime to attack a police officer.”
Without a word, the leader shook the stick in his hand and gave the people behind him a sidelong glance before rushing over and raising his hand.
Ji Yao dodged and quickly raised his hand to attack the man’s arm.
The hit did not injure the opponent, who was in fact well-trained.
The other four launched an assault right away, trapping Jiyao against the wall with five people around him.
“Even if I die, you have to let me know who you are from,” Ji Yao asked with a startling smile.
With a sneer, the leader of the gang said, “I use money to do things, and I’m going to take your life.”
Ji Yao gave him a quick look. It wouldn’t be this conflict if the people behind the scenes didn’t intend to kill him. He seemed to be trying to warn him. ‘Is it connected to the murder case of Qiao Jiang?’ Giving it a thought, he asked, “Oh, you do things for money. Then do you know who I am?”
The leader shook the stick in his hand. He obviously didn’t want to talk anymore and just wanted to complete the task quickly. “Stop talking nonsense! Come on!”
However, before Ji Yao could tell his surname was Ji and he was from the Ji Group in an arrogant way, he was attacked on the head.
As it turned out, pretence would kill dignity.
Ji Yao could barely cope with the fight against five professional thugs by himself. The most troublesome thing was the leader’s stick covered with steel nails.
Ji Yao couldn’t run out of the alley because of a reason. There were other people outside, so what would happen if those unarmed people met the five people who were fighting like beasts?
As the alley was not far from Zhao Jingjing’s house, he would likely be able to get there with his guys within twenty minutes. The only thing Ji Yao had to do was keep fighting until the reinforcements arrived.
Ji Yao used everything on the scene that might be used as weapons, including beer bottles, bricks on the ground, garbage cans close by, and old clothes drying on poles, in addition to his fists and feet.
Three of the five were knocked down by him, and soon there were just two remaining.
Finally, he managed to say the arrogant statement he wanted to make at the beginning. “I will give you three times as much as the other party gives you.” He was completely worn out physically; it was one-on-five after all. So the only thing he could do was stop working hard and using money.
The leader took two steps forward and sneered. “Although we are thugs and we do some illegal and disciplinary things, we also have professional ethics and have never betrayed our employer.” After speaking, he waved his stick.
Ji Yao: “Ten times.”
The other party hesitated, but the stick in his hand did not fall down in the end.
The subordinate next to him reminded him. “Boss, this man is a policeman and will not let us go.”
Upon hearing that, the leader glared at Ji Yao even more fiercely and screamed, “Hit him. Until he is unable to grasp the gun, beat him.”
With a sneer, Ji Yao held the knife in front of him and said, “Then don’t blame me for being rude.”
Just now, he only used seven percent of his strength and almost didn’t use the knife. ‘ If he doesn’t let me go, don’t expect me not to be cruel. These two people are not my opponents.’
Outside the alley, motorcycles were making noise at this moment. There seemed to be four or five of them. ‘It seems Jingjing came very quickly riding a motorcycle from the City Bureau.’
He turned his head and saw five motorcycles blocking the entrance to the alley. Dazzling lights were projected in, illuminating the dim alley as if it were daytime.
Five people wearing helmets got off the bikes, holding the same sticks as the thugs.
‘F*ck! The foreign aid from this evil force came so quickly.’ Ji Yao secretly cursed.

After shutting the door, Han Xi prepared some dumplings and placed them on a white porcelain dish. After placing the plate on the dining table, she poured some vinegar into a small bowl and placed it also on the dining table.
After arranging everything, she sat on the dining chair and picked up the chopsticks. While she was eating, her right eyelid kept twitching several times. ‘I don’t know why this is happening.’
She remembered how Ji Yao was absentminded when they went through the alley. ‘I don’t know what he was distracted by or why he told me to clock the door and not open the door for anyone.’
After pondering for a while, Han Xi placed her chopsticks on the table and hurried to the opposite house of hers. She knocked on the door repeatedly, but no one answered for a while.
With haste, she pulled out her cell phone and called Ji Yao.
The phone’s tone told Han Xi that the call could not be connected.
An unknown fear aroused inside her heart, and she felt as if she was being pressed by a huge boulder, making it hard to breathe.
‘Maybe he just went out to eat and his cell phone ran out of battery.’
However, she took no chances.
She suddenly recalled something, and she felt an electronic net was covering her body, making it hard to move her body.
She clearly remembered how whenever a man approached her and pursued her, they would always encounter various accidents, and the consequences would not be good.
She had done a secret investigation and found nothing. So over the years, she subconsciously avoided getting too close to others. That was why she was surprised that she let Ji Yao be so close to her.
After shaking off the invisible electronic net from her body, Han Xi ran towards the alley.
She would be unable to forgive herself if Ji Yao truly had any accident.
