Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 23.2

Chapter 23.2
An ambulance drove past Han Xi. Its lights were illuminating the roadside lightly.
Although it was early summer, Han Xi felt a born-chilling cold due to her fear.
Her feet became so numb from the stimulating coldness that she was unable to move at all.
The ambulance stopped at the entrance of the alley, with two police cars parked next to it.
A man covered in blood was put into the ambulance by white-clad medical staff.
The man’s peach blossom eyes had turned bright red. Upon seeing that, Han Xi felt like she was struck by lightning. ‘Peach blossoms are supposed to be pink, white, and warm, but why have they become so bloody?’
Han Xi stood there and wanted to move over but couldn’t move any further.
“Hurry up!”
It was Zhao Jingjing’s shout that finally woke her up.
By the time Han Xi came to her senses, the ambulance had already gone away.
The sharp sound of the ambulance could still be heard as it drove towards the hospital.
Han Xi hailed a taxi and went to the hospital.

Zhao Jingjing sat on a chair outside the emergency room door, and Zhou Li walked back and forth.
Han Xi stood at the corner of the corridor where no one could see her. After the doctor from the emergency room came out and said Ji Yao was out of danger, HanXi breathed a sigh of relief.
Then she turned around silently and left.

The next morning, Ji Yao woke up and looked down at himself. He was wearing a light blue striped hospital gown. His legs were wrapped with bandages, and his arms were in plaster.
The sun shone into the room through the window.
Ji Yao moved his arms and found that they hurt a lot when he wanted to get up.
Zhao Jingjing quickly stood up and helped him by adjusting the hospital bed. “Don’t move.”
Ji Yao smiled and said, “Bring me a mirror. It’s not good to ruin this handsome face.”
Zhao Jingjing: ‘This man just escaped death. But the first thing he did when he woke up was worry about his beauty.’
Ji Yao got a mirror as he wished and looked at his face several times. “Very good. Not disfigured, and I still match her so well.” After saying that, he placed the mirror next to the bedside and asked, “Han Xi, isn’t she here?”
Zhao Jingjing shook his head and replied, “No, we haven’t notified her yet.”
Ji Yao nodded. “You didn’t tell my parents, or Director Cai, right?”
Zhao Jingjing washed the fruit knife and said while peeling an apple, “I haven’t informed my uncle and aunt, but you know that we can’t do anything without informing Director Cai.’
At this time, there was a knock on the door, and Director Cai opened the door and came in. His secretary was carrying a fruit basket and placed it on the table.
Zhao Jingjing stood up straight and saluted. “Director Cai.”
Director Cai waved his hand and stood in front of the hospital bed. Seeing that Ji Yao was fine, he asked with relief, “Do you know who did it?”
Ji Yao thought for a moment before replying. “I don’t know. The others were professional thugs. I can’t guess the person behind them.”
“Have you offended anyone recently?” Director Cai asked with a frown.
Ji Yao: “Yes.”
Director Cai and Zhao Jingjing both looked at Ji Yao eagerly.
Ji Yao said with an arrogant smile, “The nurse who came over just now asked me for my phone number, but I didn’t give it to her. I can’t help it. Being handsome is also a sin. Some people can’t cover themselves even if they are lying on the hospital bed. Wow, he is so handsome.”
Director Cai’s face darkened, and he pointed at Ji Yao and scolded the latter. “I think you deserve to be beaten.”
Zhao Jingjing handed over the peeled apple to Ji Yao with a helpless look on his face. He was afraid that Ji Yao would talk back to Director Cai and make the latter more angry.
Ji Yao: “I won’t eat it whole. Cut it into small pieces for me. Thank you.”
It was Zhao Jingjing who wanted to beat Ji Yao this time.
Ji Yao shifted from a joking mood to a serious mood as he needed to report to his leader. Giving it a thought, he said to Director Cai, “Those people are trained thugs who work for money. The first five and the last five made a total of ten people. Their weapons were wooden sticks covered with steel nails. The people behind the scene are either my enemies from past cases or it’s related to the ongoing case of Qiao Jiang.”
Director Cai held his chin and pondered for a while. “Which one do you prefer?”
Ji Yao leaned on the pillow, looked at the ceiling, and thought for a few seconds. “I suspect it is related to the Qiao Jiang case. The killer who killed Qiao Jiang is Liu Qiangshan. This killer and those thugs have unusual backgrounds. It seems that the people behind this don’t want us to investigate the case anymore.”
Before Director Cai left, he said, “I’ll give you a few days off to recuperate. Once you’ve recovered, you’ll come back to investigate. Even they dared to beat up the team leader of the criminal investigation unit. How arrogant they are!”
When he heard about the holiday, Ji Yao gave Director Cai a flying kiss in return.
Director Cai felt disgusted and left the room while scolding the patient.
As soon as Director Cai left, the smile on Ji Yao’s face faded.
He couldn’t make a conclusion about whether those thugs had anything to do with the Qiao Jiang case, but there was one thing he couldn’t figure out.
He went home through the alley with Han Xi last night, and those people followed quietly without any intention of taking action while Han Xi was present.
They seemed a little wary of Han Xi’s presence as if they were afraid of hurting her.
‘Are they gentlemen who would not beat a woman, or do these people have anything to do with Han Xi? But I’m sure she doesn’t know anything about it.’
If his conjecture was true, the man behind the scenes knew Han Xi and cherished her very much.
Ji Yao touched the head of the bed, raised his head, and asked Zhao Jingjing, “Where is my mobile phone?”
Zhao Jingjing took out a transparent plastic bag from the drawer and gave it to Ji Yao. “Here. It is scrapped, and the screen of the mobile phone is broken.”
Ji Yao stretched out his hand and muttered, “Then lend me your mobile phone, and I’ll make a call.”
Zhao Jingjing pulled up Han Xi’s number and dialled it.
Ji Yao took the phone with a smile. “Jingjing, you still understand me.”
Zhao Jingjing: “Don’t call me Jingjing. And for your information, I don’t understand you.”
Han Xi was on the way to work. Although she didn’t have her breakfast, she didn’t have any appetite at the moment. It seemed her soul had left her body, and she was almost hit by passing bicycles several times.
The ringing tone of her phone awakened her, and she quickly took her phone out of the bag.
Zhao Jingjing’s name was displayed on the screen, and Han Xi answered the call with a fast-beating heart.
“I fell down while walking. It hurts so much. Can you come to the hospital to see me?”
His voice was very close, but it seemed like an eternity of time had passed after seeing him last night.
Ji Yao: “Hey, my arm hurts. Can Dr. Han come and rub it?”
Han Xi swallowed the sourness in her heart and put a layer of indifference under her eyes before saying, “No.”
Without saying more, she hung up the phone. At that moment, her eyes were cold as the first time she met Ji Yao.
When Zhao Jingjing saw the phone was hung up, he said to Ji Yao with some sympathy, “If you talk like this, if I were a woman, I would also do the same. Generally speaking, you shouldn’t be too impatient when chasing girls; you have to take your time.”
Ji Yao glanced at Zhao Jingjing and said, “I’m different from other people. I’m handsome.”
