Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 24.1

Chapter 24.1
Han Xi called Luo Haiyao and asked him out for dinner.
Luo Haiyao was in a meeting at that time. When he saw Han Xi’s call, he paused the meeting and answered the call.
Han Xi rarely took the initiative to call him. Usually, he was the one looking for her.
After hearing Han Xi wanted to have a meal with him, Luo Haiyao was in a good mood. He changed his clothes before leaving the office to go to his appointment.
When Han Xi arrived at the place, Luo Haiyao was already there.
He was wearing a blue shirt and straight-suit pants. When he saw Han Xi coming in, he waved to her. “Xiao Xi.”
Han Xi walked over and sat down.
What the man ordered were all Han Xi’s favourite foods.
“You don’t look good. Haven’t you rested?” Luo Haiyao asked with a frown after taking a few glances at Han Xi.
Han Xi shook her head. “No.”
Luo Haiyao asked the waiter to warm the orange juice. He knew that she liked warm things, just like him. ‘When I was a child, I was afraid of being cold as well.’
Luo Haiyao helped Han Xi pick out the fish bones, dip the fish meat in some soup, and give it to Han Xi.
Han Xi silently ate her meal, and when she was about to finish eating, she raised her head and suddenly asked, “Did you do it?”
“What are you talking about?” Luo Haiyao was startled for a moment after hearing Han Xi’s question.
“Did you ask someone to beat him?” Han Xi muttered, lowering her head.
Among all the men who approached her, only Luo Haiyao had no accident. So it was not a surprise that Han Xi would think so.
Luo Haiyao: “Who?”
Han Xi replied, “Ji Yao.”
As Luo Haiyao didn’t answer her question, Han Xi raised her head and looked into the man’s eyes. “Is it you?”
Luo Haiyao had never seen such emotion in her eyes before. Such an expression was unfamiliar to him, and he was sure that she had never treated him like this as they always depended on each other.
Luo Haiyao knew Han Xi’s habit of drinking lemon water after meals, so he poured a cup of lemon water for her.
He lowered his eyes and said in a desolate voice, “Xiao Xi, I am the only one in this world who treats you sincerely, and I am the only one who will not hurt you. You shouldn’t question me like this for an outsider.”
She was not coaxed by the man’s words. She just looked into his eyes and questioned again, “Is that you?”
Luo Haiyao adjusted his glasses before replying. “He is a policeman, and it is normal for him to have enemies.”
Han Xi frowned. ‘Am I overthinking?’
However, she didn’t know who to trust anymore.
Luo Haiyao stood up. “Let’s go, and I’ll take you home.”
Han Xi sat in the car and looked out the window on the way back. After giving it a thought, she finally said, “Haiyao, you know, the person I trust the most is you. You won’t lie to me, right?”
Luo Haiyuan turned his face and looked at her with a soft expression on his face. “I will always be good to you.”
In this dirty, dark, and sinful world, she was his only treasure. She was the reason for him to live in this world. So no one could take her away from him—not even the only heir of the Ji family, even if he was a policeman.
It was true that he had driven away the men who had been close to her before, but it was not he who took action this time.
******
Ji Yao’s mother, Ms. Su Yao, headed to the hospital with two nannies: one carrying a thermos bottle and a food box, and the other carrying fruits and various nutritional supplements.
hen Ms. Su entered the room, Ji Yao was looking out the window boredly while lying on the bed.
Su Yao first looked at the door and didn’t see any young woman inside, so she opened the door and went in. “I told you not to be a policeman. Now is it good? Why haven’t you been beaten to death?”
Ji Yao immediately showed a sweet and docile smile and said in a cute tone, “Beauty Su, you are here.”
“Does it hurt?” Su Yao asked, looking around, reaching out, and poking the plaster on Ji Yao’s arms with troubled eyes.
Ji Yao replied with a grin, “It hurts at first, but it doesn’t hurt anymore when I see a beautiful woman.”
Hearing her son’s sugar-coated words, Su Yao couldn’t be angry anymore. She raised her hand and patted the back of his hand. “You said earlier that you have something good to tell me.”
Su Yao looked everywhere. After seeing no other woman was there in the room, she turned around and asked, “That iron tree of yours is about to bloom. There may be someone in your heart. Why didn’t that person come to see you?”
Ji Yao got off the bed, hopped with one leg, and sat on the sofa.
Su Yao’s heart turned sour as she saw how lonely and miserable Ji Yao appeared. “The younger son of the Tang family, Tang Yaobin, will be returning to China in a few days,” she said, pouring the bone soup from the thermos into a tiny bowl, blowing it, and passing it over. “When he comes to play with you, don’t go.”
Ji Yao took a sip of the soup and flattered his mother first. “I have never tasted a more delicious bone soup than this. Anyway, what’s wrong with Tang Yaobin? When he was a child, wasn’t he the best among others?”
Su Yao replied, “I heard that he didn’t study well abroad. I don’t know the details. In short, it’s quite confusing.”
Ji Yao didn’t take it to heart. ‘Parents are like this. Children should hang out with well-behaved children, and those who are not well-behaved should not be allowed to hang out together. I’m a policeman; how can he lead me astray?’
Ji Yao stayed in the hospital for a week. His mother fed him various kinds of food during that time. When he was finally discharged from the hospital, he had gained two pounds.
‘For a whole week, that cruel woman never came once, didn’t answer my phone calls, and didn’t reply to my messages.’
Because of the absence of Han Xi, Ji Yao rejected Su Yao’s suggestion to return to the villa to recuperate.
Have a nice day!
