Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 26.1

Chapter 26.1
When Ji Yao left the City Bureau, he took out his mobile phone and checked whether Han Xi had replied.
‘Why hasn’t she replied?’
He became so worried about Han Xi that he hurried to the apartment complex and knocked on Han Xi’s door directly without going to his house.
The stench of alcohol greeted Han Xi as she opened the door. She scowled as she prepared to use her backhand to shut the door.
“I didn’t drink,” Ji Yao said, pressing his foot against the door frame. “I don’t think you can detect the scent of the wine stains on my clothing.”
After saying that, he took a step forward and almost fell on Han Xi as if he were really drunk.
Han Xi stepped back and waved her hand to get rid of the alcohol smell. “Whether you drink or not, it has no bearing on me.”
Ji Yao smiled and looked at the woman in front of him. He noticed that the woman had just showered because her hair was still wet. The tips of her hair were dripping with water as if she had just been stepped out of the bath. Her skin was white and soft, with a light lemon fragrance, which was very alluring.
She was wearing pure white pajamas, with a sweatshirt thrown over it, tightly covering the sensitive parts of her body that might be exposed, and the zipper at the collar was almost pulled up to her chin.
‘This is to guard against wolves.’ Ji Yao raised his hand and helped Han Xi pull the zipper down a little. “Now it’s okay. I feel so distressed when I see it.”
His voice was a little muffled, with a little nasal sound as if he were reciting a love poem.
Han Xi raised her head and met Ji Yao’s eyes.
His eyes seemed to be filled with affection. His long eyelashes were like a pair of butterflies expanding their wings, fluttering and attempting to burrow into people’s hearts when he blinked. “Does it look good?” He gently raised Han Xi’s chin and looked into her eyes.
She was sucked in by these eyes and forgot to react. Finally, realising the alcohol smell was getting closer and closer, she came to her senses.
She realised what was going to happen and hurriedly took a step back.
Ji Yao, who was going to kiss the woman, kissed the air.
“You said you didn’t drink,” she remarked, lifting her gaze to meet his eyes. “If you didn’t drink, how could you be so untidy?”
“I really didn’t drink,” he remarked with a smile. “If you don’t believe me, check it yourself.” After saying that, he moved forward again, and his lips were hanging above the tip of her nose.
However, Han Xi didn’t smell alcohol on the man’s breath, but she smelled a scent of perfume on his clothes, which was used by women. “Go away.” She felt more annoyed, and with a bang, she closed the door.
Ji Yao, who was locked out after failing to flirt with the girl, said, “…”

Ji Yao arrived at work the following day, drinking a bottle of banana milk. He sensed that something was wrong as soon as he walked through the door.
“Captain Ji, Director Cai is looking for you,” said Xiao Jin from the director’s office before Ji Yao had a chance to investigate the reason for the strange atmosphere in the office.
Ji Yao: “What is the reason for Director Cai’s scolding today?”
Xiao Jin hesitated and said, “You’ll know when you go; I can’t tell you.”
“Look at the good things you have done!” As soon as Ji Yao walked in, a magazine flew into his face, accompanied by Director Cai’s signature roar.
Ji Yao picked up the magazine on the floor and looked at it.
There was a photo on it. The background was the bar club last night he went to. Jiang Wei was holding a wine glass, and Ji Yao was leaning on the edge of the bar counter. The two were facing each other, and they looked very ambiguous.
Ji Yao: “This is a misunderstanding.”
He glanced at the name of the magazine and prepared to hand it over to Secretary Li to take some action against it.
Unsure of what to say to him, Director Cai held the teacup. After giving it some thought, he had a brilliant idea. “I believe we need to set up a blind date for you right away. We won’t have to worry about these things after you get married.”
‘What a blessing in disguise.’ Ji Yao couldn’t stop his smile. “Director Cai, you are really my dear Director Cai.”
Director Cai gave him a sideways glance and said, “I’ll arrange it with the new policewoman who came two months ago and…”
Before he could finish his words, Ji Yao blurted out. “Han Xi, Forensic Doctor Han.”
“You should go back first, then let Director Ye make arrangements and ask Han Xi if she is willing,” Director Cai pondered for a moment before saying.
“I’ll follow the organisation’s arrangements.” Ji Yao bowed.
Director Cai glanced at him and said, “Okay, now get out.”
Ji Yao came out of the director’s office and glanced inside as he passed the forensic room.
Han Xi was entering some data into the computer. She was wearing a light blue V-neck T-shirt. The style and colour were very ordinary, but they gave her a joyful appearance.
Ji Yao remembered that Han Xi used to prefer dressing in only three colours: gray, white, and black. They were frigid and icy and lacked warmth.
Ji Yao knocked on the half-open door and showed a bright smile. “Good morning, forensic doctor Han.”
“The Criminal Investigation Team has no data that needs to be obtained at the moment,” Han Xi said, looking up at Ji Yao.
The hidden meaning of her words was ‘get out of here.’
Ji Yao didn’t understand why Han Xi was so cold to him today. ‘When did I offend her?’ Pondering for a while, he glanced at the director’s office and walked into the forensic room.
Just as he was about to speak, he saw a magazine lying on the edge of Zhu Han’s table. His and Jiang Wei’s photo was displayed there.
“Do you believe this kind of gossip magazine?” he asked Han Xi after picking up the magazine from the table.
Han Xi nodded and refused to say a word more to him.
Ji Yao put his hands on her table and asked in a soft tone, “You’re jealous, huh?”
“I’ll dissect you if you don’t get out,” said Han Xi as she got up from the chair, went to the cupboard, and took a scalpel from the knife box.
Ji Yao noticed that there were some emotions in Han Xi’s eyes he hadn’t seen before, and it made his heart filled with sweetness.
He remembered that in the beginning, no matter how much he teased her, she always looked cold and indifferent.
He tossed the magazine aside, stepped forward two paces, and sent her a seductive glance. “Love and kill each other?”
Han Xi: “Where do you want to cut first? The male reproductive organ?”
Ji Yao was shocked. ‘Is she flirting with me?’
Han Xi: “Don’t think too much. A doctor or forensic doctor views a patient or a corpse as nothing more than a pile of meat. Where I cut, it doesn’t matter.”
Ji Yao strongly disagreed with her point of view. “In your eyes, I’m afraid it’s not a patient or a corpse.”
Looking at the door, Han Xi said, “Director Cai.”
Ji Yao smiled. “Who are you trying to trick, little cutie?”
Han Xi: “It’s really Director Cai.”
Ji Yao: “Ha, naive. Do you think I will be deceived?” After saying that, he turned around. “Director Cai!”
Director Cai, with a darkened face, looked at Ji Yao for a few seconds and went to his office.
Ji Yao hurriedly followed Director Cai into the director’s office.
“Has Qiao Jiang’s case been solved? Just play here, and I don’t think you want to go on a blind date.” Director Cai asked seriously.
Ji Yao stood up straight and said seriously, “Director Cai, you misunderstood. No, I’m not playing. I’m investigating a case.”
Director Cai pulled over a chair and sat down to see how he made it up.
Ji Yao: “When she was a child, forensic doctor Han lived some time in an orphanage. It just so happens that over 20 years ago, the daughter of Director Ye and Officer Chen also vanished. I believe that Han Xi is my long-missing fiancée.”
“Fiancée?” asked Director Cai with a frown.
Ji Yao: “Uncle Chen once promised me that his daughter would become my wife if she could be found. Director Ye can provide testimony.”
Director Cai: “Make things up for me again!”
‘No, it’s true.’ Ji Yao was helpless.
Director Cai: “Messing around during work hours again. Go back and write an 800-word review. Send it to my email before you get off work tonight.”
