Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 26.2

Chapter 26.2
After Ji Yao and Director Cai left, Han Xi sat down and poured a cup of hot water for herself.
She was abandoned by her biological parents, and she never received motherly love.
‘Zhu Han took a day off today because she has a cold, and her mother took her to the hospital.’’ Han Xi let out a deep sigh. ‘It’s great to have a mother.’
While she was thinking, she felt her stomach was cramping again due to her period. So she hurriedly threw a piece of brown sugar into the hot water cup.
Only then did Han Xi remember that Zhu Han also had a stomach ache once, and her mother rushed to the City Bureau at noon to give her a hand warmer and rubbed her stomach for a while before leaving.
Han Xi rubbed her stomach and felt that this period was particularly painful: not only did her stomach hurt, but her heart also hurt.
When she was in the orphanage, she heard the children who wore neat and nice clothes from the town outside singing the song “Only Mom is Good in the World”.
At first, she cried as soon as she heard it, missing her mother. But ironically, she couldn’t even remember what her mother looked like.
At this time Ye Yanqing passed by the door of the forensic office and saw Han Xi lying on the table with her hands on her stomach.
“Han Xi, what’s wrong?” Her voice was full of panic.
Han Xi raised her head, smiled and said, “Director Ye, I’m fine. I’ll be fine in a while.”
Ye Yanqing understood at a glance that the girl was having her period.
“Does it hurt a lot?”Ye Yanqing poured more hot water into Han Xi’s cup, pulled over a chair, and sat down.
Han Xi shook her head and said, “It’s fine.” However, her appearance said the opposite as she looked pale and beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.
Ye Yanqing couldn’t stand seeing young girls in pain because it reminded her missing daughter. She often thought that if her daughter Nini were still around, she would be at this age too.
Rubbing her hands together to warm them up, Ye Yanqing gently placed her palms on Han Xi’s stomach over her T-shirt and asked softly, “Are you feeling any better?”
The girl who rested her head on the table nodded slightly while remaining silent.
Ye Yanqing then called the office secretary, asking her to run to the convenience store nearby to buy some warm packs for Han Xi.
After hanging up the phone, rubbed her hands again until they were hot and placed them back on Han Xi’s belly. “I’ll make you some ginger tea tomorrow,” she promised. “Your mom should have probably told you that during your period, it’s best to eat warm foods, avoid cold drinks, and get to bed early. Does your stomach hurt badly? If so, ask for leave and go home to rest. I’ll approve it.”
No one had ever spoken to her like that, not even her birth mother who left her behind, nor her adoptive mother who barely acknowledged her.
Han Xi lay still on the table, unusually quiet.
Ye Yanqing called out to her. “Han Xi?”
Finally, Han Xi lifted her head with tears streaming down her face.
She was longing for a mother like that.
Even though she had passed the time she craved maternal affection, the emptiness in her heart felt like a deep well, with the walls echoing a song titled “Only Mom is Good in the World.”

Ji Yao instructed Secretary Li to deal with the magazine scandal and find out who was really behind it.
On the phone, Secretary Li said, “It can’t be Jiang Wei.”
Ji Yao found this conclusion intriguing since he had his suspicions about Jiang Wei. ‘The only one who can benefit from this is her.’
Jiang Wei was currently shooting an ad for Ji’s company. If she stirred up a scandal with the Crown Prince of Ji’s family now, it would definitely boost her fame.
Secretary Li added, “I just can’t believe someone as stunning as my goddess would do something like that. She’s so hardworking, dedicated, and humble. Unlike that actress from the neighbouring company who’s always caught up in one scandal after another, my goddess is a breath of fresh air in the entertainment scene.”
Ji Yao replied with a hint of sarcasm in his voice, “What kind of spell has Jiang Wei cast on you? Your idol filter is thicker than a city wall.”
Realising Secretary Li would not be suitable for this matter, Ji Yao thought it was important to get someone else to look into this.
Secretary Li was a top talent among the younger crowd at Ji Group. He had always been straightforward and fair.
‘Still, he is easily captivated by Jiang Wei.’
When Ji Yao hung up the phone, he heard the excited voice of Officer Xiao Yao.
“Jiang Wei is going to promote Shihua’s new shampoo. Buy, buy, buy, and support our goddess!”
Ji Yao replied, “Didn’t the bureau just hand out a few bottles during the May Day holiday? Have you used them all up?”
Xiao Yao turned around and said, “Captain Ji, you’ve never been into celebrity culture; you wouldn’t get it. This is all about data manipulation and how a spokesperson can drive sales.”
Ji Yao leaned against the table, recalling that just last week, Xiao Yao was chatting with Zhou Li about Jiang Wei’s plastic surgery and stuff.
Zhang Xiang looked up from his computer, and said, “Xiao Yao, I sent you a short video of the goddess being interviewed by Nanquan TV. Can you give it a like?”
Ji Yao: ‘… Zhang Xiang is a total otaku in the 2D world, but he’s suddenly all about 3D stars now. ‘
Ji Yao walked over to Zhao Jingjing and noticed a picture of Jiang Wei on his computer screen.
Ji Yao: “Jingjing, you’re not falling for her too, are you?”
Zhao Jingjing shrugged, and answered, “My grandma thinks the girl is pretty and asked me to download some photos for her phone wallpaper.”
Ji Yao: “….”
He glanced at the time clapped his hands, and commanded loudly, “Lunch break is over. All the star chasers, please start working.”
At this time, someone knocked on the office door several times.
Have a nice day!
