Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 28.2

Chapter 28.2
Before departing from the City Bureau, Ji Yao received a call from Secretary Li reminding him about the launch dinner for Ji’s West City real estate project at 8:30 tonight.
If Ji Yao hadn’t received Secretary Li’s reminder, he would have forgotten it.
Ji Yao strolled over to his dad, Ji Zhihe, exchanged a few words, and showed his face to some of the directors at Ji Group. At that point, he felt he had fulfilled his duties as the Ji family’s heir.
Then, he headed to the buffet area to grab some late-night snacks for the little forensic doctor waiting at home. Nearby, a group of young women were chatting while sipping their drinks.
“That’s Jiang Wei, right?” one of them asked.
“I heard she climbed the ladder by charming men. So shameless,” another chimed in.
“Well, what can you do? Guys seem to love her flirty vibe,” a third added.
A guy nearby jumped in, saying, “You’re just jealous. If Jiang Wei isn’t worth it, would Ji’s company really hire her for an ad?”
Ji Yao found himself agreeing with the man’s perspective after hearing him out. He didn’t like Jiang Wei, but he was well aware that Ji’s company never engaged in unprofitable promotions.
He turned his gaze toward Jiang Wei.
She had her back to him, and all he could see was her long, shiny black hair cascading down, glowing softly in the light.
As Ji Yao approached her, Jiang Wei turned around, recognised him, and flashed a charming smile. “Mr. Ji.”
He nodded in response.
Jiang Wei tossed her hair back, exposing her fair neck. Noticing Ji Yao’s gaze on her lush hair, she smirked. ‘Hm… No matter how serious they acted, a little charm could easily captivate them.’
Indeed, most of the time, beauty would open doors.
She swayed her hips and stepped closer to Ji Yao, almost brushing against him.
Ji Yao took a step back, holding his wine glass. “Congrats! I heard you landed the endorsement for Shi Hua’s shampoo,” he said with a slight smile.
Jiang Wei beamed with joy and replied, “Thank you.” She then raised her glass to clink with Ji Yao’s and added softly, “I appreciate your support, Mr. Ji.”
“Ms. Jiang, your hair looks amazing. What’s your secret?”
Jiang Wei gathered her hair to one side, letting it drape over her chest, and replied in a sultry tone, “How about I share my tips with you after dinner?” Her look revealed her thoughts.
“Maybe… another time,” Ji Yao set his wine glass on the table beside him and said.
Just then, a waitress stumbled and accidentally tipped the wine glass off the tray, splattering it all over Jiang Wei’s outfit.
A few nearby women stifled their laughter, clearly enjoying the scene.
Jiang Wei’s face turned red with embarrassment as she shot a glare at the waitress. “Do you have any idea how much this dress cost? You couldn’t even pay me back if I sold you! Call your leader!”
The waitress was taken aback by such harsh words, and she quickly apologised.
Jiang Wei was firm. “I want your leader here.”
Ji Yao chimed in, “Did you call for me?”
This hotel belonged to the Ji family, so what Ji Yao said was not wrong.
Ji Yao stepped in to help the waitress, while Jiang Wei’s assistant rushed over. She pulled a black silk scarf from her bag and wrapped it around Jiang Wei before leading her to the bathroom to clean up.
Ji Yao noticed the scarf; he recognised it from a fashion magazine featuring Wang Xiaoning before her death. ‘The colour, texture, and logo were identical. What a strange coincidence!’
Once they returned from the bathroom, Jiang Wei headed back to the banquet, leaving her assistant at a corner table.
Ji Yao approached the assistant, took a seat, and asked, “Is that black scarf yours?”
It was a lesser-known brand, and he doubted that Jiang Wei would wear it.
The assistant, a girl in her early twenties, nodded, avoiding his gaze. “Yes, it’s mine. Is there a problem, Mr. Ji?”
Leaning back in his chair, Ji Yao asked, “Where did you get it?”
The assistant paused before replying, “I can’t remember.”
Ji Yao got up and looked over at the young assistant. His gaze was sharp and full of doubt, making her feel uneasy.
“Why do you look so anxious? Did you mess something up?” He smirked slightly and asked.
