Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 30.1

Chapter 30.1
The physical evidence was indeed taken from the black scarf, but they couldn’t find Wang Xiaoning’s fingerprints on it.
They expected that would happen because Wang Xiaoning had been lost for two months. At such a period of time, any evidence could fade away.
Zhao Jingjing asked someone to bring a glass of water before saying to Liang You. “Just share everything you know. We won’t accuse an innocent person, and we definitely won’t let a guilty one slip away.”
Once they realised that Liang You was a bit calm, they started to question her again.
Zhao Jingjing: “Where did you get this scarf?”
Liang You glanced at Zhou Li, then quickly looked down and murmured, “It’s mine. I took it.”
Zhou Li replied coldly, “Be more specific.”
Liang You explained, “About a month ago, I was helping Sister Wei clean the house and found it under the sofa. I didn’t think it was a big deal and figured it wasn’t something Sister Wei would want. She might not even remember it, so I just put it in my bag.”
Zhou Li remarked, “So you had the guts to use it in front of Jiang Wei.”
“Last night, Sister Wei got wine spilt on her, and in the rush, I forgot about it and pulled it out. Sister Wei didn’t notice, but I didn’t expect Captain Ji to see it,” the guilty assistant muttered.
Zhou Li smiled but stayed quiet. ‘It seemed like this wasn’t the first time Liang You had taken something from Jiang Wei.’
Zhao Jingjing asked, “What was your and Jiang Wei’s schedule two months ago?”
Liang You thought for a moment before replying, “We were filming a commercial at a studio in the next city for ten days.”
Zhao Jingjing inquired, “How did you get there?”
Liang You answered, “By plane.”
“Check it out now.” Ji Yao, who was watching the surveillance screen, turned to the officer beside him and instructed him.
Zhao Jingjing, following Ji Yao’s lead, asked, “Is Jiang Wei’s hair a wig?”
“It looks real to me; I don’t think it’s a wig. But Sister Wei doesn’t let anyone stay in the dressing room while she’s doing her makeup, so I can’t say for sure. And I’ve never seen her take it off,” Liang You responded.
Zhao Jingjing: “Is there anyone particularly close or suspicious around Jiang Wei?”
Liang You replied, “According to my knowledge, no.”
Zhou Li shot her a sideways glance and asked, “What do you mean by ‘according to my knowledge’?”
Liang You, taken aback by the look, quickly clarified, “I mean, at least I haven’t seen anything.”
Zhao Jingjing stepped out of the interrogation room after asking a few more questions. “Should we bring Jiang Wei in for questioning?” he asked Ji Yao.
Ji Yao waved his hand and said, “Let me sort through the clues first.”
At that time they got the information about Jiang Wei’s shooting schedule at that time. She was indeed out of Nanquan City when Wang Xiaoning was murdered.
‘Since Wang Xiaoning never left the city, it’s impossible she was killed elsewhere and then brought back.
If Jiang Wei is indeed the murderer, she must have a close accomplice lurking in the shadows.’
Those were Ji Yao’s theories without evidence.
If Jiang Wei claimed she’d never seen it, the police couldn’t do anything. After all, there were no fingerprints to collect from it.
They knew that their little tricks might work on Liang You, but wouldn’t scare someone like Jiang Wei, who had access to a ton of lawyers.
Therefore, one slip-up could give the game away.
Ji Yao thought for a bit and decided to cut the grass without scaring the snake. He headed to the forensic room to grab some luminol reaction reagent and secretly handed it to Zhou Li, saying, “Zhou Li, take Liang You home.”
[“Luminol reaction reagent”—It is used in criminal forensics to detect blood at a crime scene.]
Liang You quickly waved her hand, insisting, “No need to see me off; I can manage on my own.”
Ji Yao replied with a friendly smile, “The police and the public are like family. We should send you off properly.”
Liang You shot a glance at Zhou Li, looking a bit uneasy, and replied, “Really, it’s not necessary.”
Zhou Li pulled her along, saying, “Didn’t you mention going to Jiang Wei’s place to pick something up? Let’s go; I’ll take you.”
Liang You protested. “I never said that.”
Zhou Li smirked, looking a bit sinister. “Oh, but you said.”
Feeling uneasy, Liang You fell silent and let the officers lead her.
Forty minutes later, Zhou Li called Ji Yao with an update. “Captain Ji, everything’s normal at Jiang Wei’s house, and we didn’t find any luminol reaction.”
In other words, there were no signs of human blood.
Ji Yao lounged in his chair and placed his feet on the table. ‘Jiang Wei’s house isn’t the first crime scene, but Wang Xiaoning’s scarf had also ended up there.’
Thinking that Ji Yao instructed Zhang Xiang to check with the fashion magazine’s planner about Wang Xiaoning’s last photo shoot before her death, including the photographers who were there. They all confirmed that the scarf was used during the shoot, and afterwards, the planner handed the scarf directly to Wang Xiaoning.
On her way home, Wang Xiaoning vanished with the scarf.
The tricky part was that this evidence couldn’t be presented in court. Just relying on verbal identification wasn’t enough to make it solid evidence.
Even if they wanted to avoid alarming anyone, it was time to make a move. So Ji Yao arranged for Jiang Wei to come to the City Bureau.
She came at the scheduled time with her lawyer.
Ji Yao really disliked dealing with rich suspects since they always came with legal representation.
When Jiang Wei saw Ji Yao, she smiled sweetly and said, “Captain Ji, nice to see you again.”
She didn’t look like a suspect of a murder, but more like someone enjoying tea with a lover.
Ji Yao studied Jiang Wei. ‘If she is indeed responsible for Wang Xiaoning’s death, then she has a strong mental ability.’
This time, Ji Yao took charge of the interrogation himself.
Have a nice day!
