Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 30.2

Chapter 30.2
Jiang Wei sat across from him, crossing her legs in a way that was hard to ignore. Her eyes darted between Ji Yao and the recording equipment, almost like she was playing a game.
Her story perfectly matched Liang You’s. Two months ago, she claimed she was out of Nanquan City and had a solid alibi.
Regarding the black scarf, she mentioned she couldn’t recall purchasing it, or maybe she did and just forgot about it completely.
Ji Yao had already anticipated her response. “Is your hair real or fake?”
Jiang Wei grinned and replied, “Captain Ji, you seem curious about my hair. Why not come a bit closer and check it out? Then you’ll find out.”
Ji Yao tapped the table and shot the woman a serious, slightly disgusted look. “Jiang Wei, this is an interrogation room.”
Jiang Wei simply said, “Wig.”
Ji Yao pressed on, “Where did you get it?”
Jiang Wei shrugged. “I can’t remember; I think it was from a street vendor.”
Just then, Han Xi knocked and entered the room, holding an evidence bag and a pair of scissors. She glanced at Ji Yao before approaching Jiang Wei.
Jiang Wei froze for a moment upon seeing Han Xi but quickly regained her composure.
Han Xi picked up the scissors, ready to cut off some hair for evidence, but Jiang Wei halted her. “You can’t do that. I want to see my lawyer.”
Ji Yao stood up, took the scissors from Han Xi, and snipped off a small piece of hair without a delay. “A citizen must assist the police in investigations, especially since you’re still a suspect. Do you know that?”
Han Xi checked and found that there was no human tissue between the wig and the hair.
So Han Xi held Jiang Wei’s head down. Jiang Wei wanted to lash out, but with Ji Yao present, she just fumed.
Ji Yao walked out of the interrogation room with Han Xi and asked, “Is there any way to tell if these hairs belong to Wang Xiaoning?”
Han Xi shook her head and said helplessly, “Wigs don’t have hair roots or follicles, so we can’t get any DNA from them. Even if we could somehow get human tissue, after all this time, the cells would have decayed.”
‘So, these hairs can only serve as evidence but can’t be considered solid proof right now.’ Ji Yao replied after thinking, “Whenever a crime happens, there’s always some evidence left behind. I’ll have someone keep tabs on Jiang Wei. I doubt she won’t slip up.”
Han Xi turned away and said, “How can you be sure Jiang Wei or someone she ordered is responsible for Wang Xiaoning’s death? What if it wasn’t her? The evidence we have is pretty weak.”
Ji Yao responded, “If she’s innocent, her name will be cleared.”
Back at the office, Ji Yao asked Zhang Xiang to reach out to the property management of Jiang Wei’s apartment complex to get surveillance footage from two months ago and look for any suspicious individuals around her.
The investigation revealed that Jiang Wei hadn’t brought anyone home besides her assistant and agent.
They already checked about the agent and found out that the person wasn’t in Nanquan City when the incident occurred.
Jiang Wei’s finance activities looked normal too; she hadn’t made any big purchases in the last two months, so it didn’t seem like she’d hire someone to commit a murder.
Zhao Jingjing went to find more information about Wang Xiaoning. He and two other officers started asking people for information, showing a photo of Wang Xiaoning. The local shops and stalls all claimed they hadn’t seen anything out of the ordinary.
To make matters worse, Wang Xiaoning was murdered two months ago. Any evidence like footprints or fingerprints had likely been wiped away by now. Therefore, finding Wang Xiaoning’s last-seen location or the original crime scene would be very hard.
With a lack of evidence, the investigation was moving at a snail’s pace.
Ji Yao even had someone dig deeper into Wang Xiaoning’s social connections, hoping to uncover new leads. After multiple reviews, Jiang Wei remained the prime suspect.
Every day, Grandma Xiao visits the city police station to check on the case’s progress. She would cry so much that her tears would run dry, spending long hours in the reception area.
Ji Yao brings two lunch boxes from the cafeteria every day to share with the old woman in the reception room.
First, Han Xi initially joined them, but when the old woman saw her, she remembered her granddaughter.
Realising her presence was making the old woman upset, Hanx Xi stopped coming to eat together.
Ji Yao kept him company every day, and sometimes Zhao Jingjing and Zhang Xiang joined in too.

After the first advertising collaboration between Ji and Jiang Wei was completed, the contract was not renewed.
This was Ji Yao’s idea. Jiang Wei, this star, would have problems sooner or later. Even if it wasn’t about Wang Xiaoning, it would be about something else. Such a spokesperson should not be used.
At the same time, Ji Yao was also investigating the Zheng Xiao Orphanage and found some information about Guo Ying that Han Xi mentioned.
There were no photos, just a few simple lines of text, recording basic information such as the time she was detained.
The last record was that she was burnt to death in the fire at the orphanage, and her body was never found.
There was no record of it after that.
Ji Yao threw the empty box of banana milk into the trash can, then looked down at his phone and saw a message from Jiang Wei.
“Master Ji, it’s my birthday tomorrow; would you mind coming to show your support?”
Ji Yao leaned back in his chair, typing on the screen. “It’s an honour.”
