Cherish You as My Life - Chapter 4

Chapter 4
Those who were in the interrogation room couldn’t see outside from the observation mirror in the interrogation room, but Ji Yao knew others were looking at them through the mirror, so he raised his right hand and curled his fingers, gesturing to come inside.
Zhao Jingjing glanced at Doctor Cai, whose face was ashen.
Director Cai agreed by nodding because he thought it would be better to ask someone else a question instead of Ji Yao, who acted like a playboy.
After receiving permission, Zhao Jingjing went into the interrogation room after opening the door.
Ji Yao and Zhao Jingjing looked at each other and then went outside to talk.
The two appeared to be arguing, and Zhao Jingjing turned red and said, “No, I’m not good at it.”
Ji Yao said very seriously, “You have to do what I’m telling you to do.”
Zhao Jingjing seemed mad, but he couldn’t do anything about it.
Zhou Li touched Zhang Xiang and asked, “What plan has Team Ji made this time?”
Zhang Xiang found some potato chip crumbs on his arm and brushed them off, saying, “Don’t try to figure out what Captain Ji is thinking. You won’t be able to solve it by guessing.” Then, he got a pink notebook and got ready to write something down. He was actually writing about the scene happening now, especially how Ji Yao was handling this matter. It seemed he was a big fan of Ji Yao.
Usually, during questioning, Ji Yao would act like he was angry, and Zhao Jingjing would act like a gentleman.
But this time, Ji Yao didn’t feel like playing the red-face game. He asked Zhao Jingjing if they could switch roles and reassured her that he could control her emotions.
Zhao Jingjing: “Captain, please don’t call me Jingjing, and I don’t think your idea is right.” He was a very kind person, and he couldn’t be mean to anyone. Additionally, the person they needed to question was a coworker from the local office.
After some time, the two people went back into the room where they were questioning Han Xi.
Han Xi actually felt better when she saw Zhao Jingjing. She had never caused anyone’s death and was not afraid of being looked into. The more trustworthy people question her, the better.
Ji Yao sat up straight and told Han Xi honestly, “It’s all part of the same system. I asked you to come here because we need to clear up any doubts. We will make sure you get what is fair, as long as you didn’t cause harm to that person.” He was being sincere in saying this, but he was also trying to make a good impression. ‘I will make sure you are treated fairly.’
Zhao Jingjing looked at Ji Yao, who had taken his lines. However, this time at the captain’s order, he had to look very serious and mean, so he spoke out loud and asked, “Where were you yesterday between 8:30 and 9 in the evening?”
Han Xi: “I was at my house; in Room 402, Number 4.”
Zhao Jingjing asked loudly, “Can anyone testify for you?”
Ji Yao looked at Zhao Jingjing and asked him to talk quietly so he wouldn’t scare others. Then he looked at Han Xi with kindness and compassion.
Zhao Jingjing looked at the drama queen without saying anything and felt that this person had a cruel attitude that was hard to deal with.
Han Xi thought that there was something weird in the air between the two people. She had never seen how they usually ask questions, and she couldn’t understand them well.
She answered. “My university teacher called me at eight forty, and we talked for about fifteen minutes.”
Zhao Jingjing showed the paper from the forensic department and said, “The DNA on the buttons of the dead person’s clothes matches yours. How do you explain this?”
Ji Yao, an experienced actor, helped his deputy get into the drama quickly and was very happy about his performance.
Ji Yao, who played the person with a white face, spoke gently to her. “Don’t worry; don’t be scared. As long as you can explain it well and show evidence, you’ll be okay.” He then asked, “Do you want something to drink? I’ll get someone to bring some water. Or if you want to have juice or coffee, don’t be shy.” After saying that, he looked at the surveillance camera and showed that they were ready to start.
Zhou Li and Zhang Xiang both rubbed their eyes together, feeling like they might be crazy. Their leader, Ji, had been a police officer for five years and had broken more than ten tables in the interrogation room before, acting very gently for the first time in the interrogation room.
Both of them got chills while looking at the screen.
Han Xi looked at Ji Yao and said, “I don’t want it, thanks.”
Ji Yao said, “You’re welcome; we are all like one big family.”
Zhao Jingjing was so shocked and didn’t know what to say. ‘You, a police officer who questions criminals, told the suspect that she is part of the same family? When you come into this room to be questioned, you should not even have your friends or family with you.’ Zhao Jingjing felt really mad at Ji Yao, so he couldn’t think clearly.
Han Xi said, “After work last night, I went to the supermarket close to my house. I spoke to the person who passed away in the fish aisle of the store. I slipped, almost lost my balance, and fell. The person who died was beside me, and at that time, my hair was tangled on the dead person’s button. The store has cameras to watch over things, so you can see for yourself. It’s on the second floor of RT-Mart, No. 342 Zhenyang Road.”
Ji Yao was sure that Han Xi was not the murderer. She was a doctor who studied how to solve crimes and knew how the police work on cases very well; therefore, she wouldn’t leave a big clue for others to find.
In other words, if it was really her, those two hairs would not be taken to the forensic lab. She had many chances to get rid of the evidence, but she chose not to.
Ji Yao remembered that when she was at the scene, she might have seen her hair, but she didn’t say anything and kept it for analysis.
This was how good forensic doctors were at their job.
This was definitely very lovely, especially for someone so beautiful.
Ji Yao glanced up at Han Xi. Her face didn’t show any emotions, but he noticed a small change in her eyes. Her eyes were bright, like sparkling waves and like stones thrown into the river.
He noticed that she could be very gentle and caring, but also very intense and passionate. She was doing her best to hide the labels that were hers, and the people around her only saw a cold figure.
He suddenly wanted to know about her past and the kind of place she grew up in that made her so great.
Right now, the lights turned off suddenly, and the whole interrogation room became dark.
The room where they were asking questions didn’t have any windows, and the door was shut, so it was pitch blank inside the room.
Inside the dark room, Han Xi sat on the cold chair and felt like her whole body was frozen. The extreme coldness spread from the bottom of her heart and made her whole body freeze.
It felt like she was in a small, dark room in that orphanage.
Ji Yao was going to talk, but he felt the table moving a little. It was so light that anyone couldn’t even notice it if they weren’t paying attention. After a few seconds, he made a face and walked to the other side in the dark.
Han Xi felt someone’s warm hands holding her and pressing on her shoulders to help her stop shaking.
His hand felt warm, and when he touched her, she felt like she was wrapped in a cosy blanket, and she wasn’t cold anymore all of a sudden.
A powerful word reached her ears in an instant. “Don’t worry.”
Someone opened the door and said, “Captain Ji, it looks like the fuse is broken. The electrician is already changing it.”
Light came in from the door, and Ji Yao let go of his hand and went back to his seat.
Zhao Jingjing saw that, and he looked at Ji Yao with a shocked and confused expression. Even though this man lied a lot, he never did anything careless. Show more love and respect for women. He looked at Han Xi and saw that her face was very pale, her lips were a bit purple, and she still looked scared.
Then the power came on, and the room lit up.
Ji Yao: “Please wait in the detention room for a little more time. We will go to the store to get security footage and prove that you are not guilty.”
Han Xi agreed and said, “Thank you.” She still sounded calm, like nothing bad had happened in the darkness.
‘Oh, woman, you have caught my attention.’ Ji Yao looked at her deeply and went out.
After leaving the room, Ji Yao looked around and asked, “Is Director Cai nearby?”
Zhang Xiang closed his notebook and said, “He is coming.”
Ji Yao asked, “Where are the people?”
Zhang Xiang thought for a long time and couldn’t make up his mind, which made his face red. He didn’t know what to say to help his idol look good.
“Alright, the most important thing right now is to figure out the solution to the problem.” Ji Yao said. “Zhang Xiang will talk to the RT-Mart supermarket and check their cameras. Zhou Li will keep looking into the relationships of the person who died, especially the last person who saw them on the night of the crime. Got it?”
Another cop looked at Han Xi’s phone records and spoke to the university teacher she mentioned. The teacher said that Han Xi was telling the truth and that she was not lying about where she was.
Thirty minutes later, the supermarket gave them the surveillance video.
Zhang Xiang sat in front of the computer with his pink mouse. He clicked on the surveillance video for the time mentioned by the female doctor.
Han Xi did talk to the person who died. Also, the camera in the supermarket was very clear, could capture even small details, and showed that her hair was caught up on the deceased’s shirt button, and when she pulled her ponytail, two hairs stayed on the button.
Ji Yao stood behind Zhang Xiang and drank some banana milk. Then he told Zhang Xiang to zoom in on the picture eight times, and then he said to look at the shopping basket.
Zhang Xiang made the dead person’s shopping basket bigger. Then he heard the captain ask, “Who told you to make the dead man’s body look bigger?”
Zhang Xiang seemed puzzled, and after a few seconds, he zoomed into Han Xi’s basket.
Ji Yao put the empty milk carton in the trash, and then he looked at the things in the shopping basket carefully, like he was trying to remember and cherish them. “I want celery and meat dumplings, dragon and phoenix corn and pork dumplings, Wan Chai Pier sauerkraut, and shredded pork dumplings.”
‘A basket with only dumplings, no vegetables or snacks. It seems she really enjoys eating dumplings. There is also a chance that someone is very lazy, to the point of not even being able to order takeout. But she doesn’t seem lazy. So, dumplings must be very meaningful to her, maybe because of her childhood and past experiences.’
However, Han Xi was too difficult to understand. She seemed calm on the outside, but no one knew the deep feelings she kept hidden inside. Ji Yao was not confident in making quick guesses.
There were more than just dumplings in the world. He wanted to take her out to eat yummy food as often as possible. But he still had a long way to go before he could get this chance.
Zhou Li came in and said, “The team next door found a car robbery case. The car went missing last night. Who do you think stole the car?” She picked up the glass of water and drank some before saying, “Yes. The dead person’s son.”
The person who died was last seen by their son, Zhou Lin. He said he had dinner at his dad’s house last night and then left at 7:30. Afterwards, he was drinking at a friend’s house.
It turned out to be false.
In simple words, Zhou Lin’s excuse was not true.
