Chapter 18.2

The young man was wearing blue clothes. He was a bit skinny, but he stood very straight. Although he was not very old, his eyes revealed more maturity than his age.

“I’ve met the second, third, and fourth sisters.” He greeted his sister with a calm voice.

Ruan Liyun walked ahead and used a handkerchief to clean the dust off his body. She smiled and asked, “Academy is far away from Yangzhou. Are you exhausted?”

Ruan Chengfeng said, “No second sister; I’m not.”

While Ruan Liyun was worried about her brother’s physical well-being, Ruan Longling was very worried about her little brother’s studies. “I have copied everything that Mr. Ge said yesterday and put it in your study in Songyu Courtyard. I have also found some books; you may be able to use them.”

Ruan Chengfeng agreed and said, “Thanks, Third Sister.”

Ruan Yumei stood beside Ruan Chengfeng and waved her hand. “You are two years younger than me. We haven’t seen him for over six months, but Brother Feng is taller than me.”

Sister Shu saw her uncle after a long time, so she ran happily towards him. “Uncle…uncle!”

After their dad left, their mom got sick and had to stay in bed. Their elder brother died, and the second sister got married. Therefore, it was very rare for them to spend time together like this.

As the lunch was ready, the brothers and sisters and the little girl went to the dining room happily.

While eating, they talked about small things in their lives, and everyone was truly happy after a long time.

Only half of the incense stick was burned after they finished the meal, and the wet nurse of the Feng family came to report.

“Someone from the Feng family came and asked me to tell Madam to bring Sister Shu back as soon as possible. Master Feng has come home, and he wants to see Sister Shu.”

All four Ruan family siblings were annoyed to hear that. Ruan Chengfeng just got home after a long time, and the four siblings haven’t had a real conversation yet. 

Ruan Longling looked worried and said, “Since Master Feng has come home, he will stay a few days at home. So, second sister, you do not need to rush back. Sister Shu is tired from playing right now, so let her sleep for a while and take a rest before going back.”

Ruan Liyun saw that the wet nurse looked worried, and she knew that her mother-in-law must have been angry and said unkind things, so she decided to go home quickly.

“That’s it; Chengfeng will stay home for a while. We, brothers and sisters, will have time to be together again. I should take Sister Shu home before anything else. We can talk properly when we come back another day.”

After that, she took a nap with Sister Shu and worked towards the entrance. 

Ruan Yumei walked along with her to say goodbye.

Ruan Longling and Ruan Chengfeng were still in the dining hall.

The sun was going down, and its light was coming into the room through the window, shining on a quiet young man sitting at the dinner table. 

In the past, Ruan Chengfeng didn’t talk much. But when they were eating, he was more talkative. Ruan Longling just thought that he was exhausted from running around without stopping for a few days. 

“Sister, I promise I will do my best. Don’t worry”

The young man was angry, and his eyes showed how much he hated something. He was also clenching his fists while talking: “Liu Chengji disappointed you a lot; I won’t go easy on him.”

Ruan Chengfeng was thinking a lot about the engagement break-up since he heard the news at Bailu Academy.

‘Why did Liu Chengji decide to cancel the marriage? Is it to harm the Ruan family, which is not strong?’ Their eldest brother died young; he was the only boy in his family, and his sisters always looked after him, but he couldn’t do anything in return for them. “I will definitely be better than Liu Chengji someday, and I will vent my anger on behalf of you, Third Sister!”

Ruan Longling’s nose hurt, and she was about to cry.

After their elder brother died, Ruan Chengfeng had to take on the responsibility of being the only male in the Ruan family. He became more careful and considerate.

While other teenagers of the same age were still having fun, he would often shut himself in his room to read books and practice calligraphy, vowing to stand out.

It seems that this time she was divorced by Liu Chengji, which added to her brother’s psychological burden.

Reaching the top spot was as difficult as ascending to the sky.

‘He is the father of your future nephew. Is this a good enough reason?’ But Ruan Longling couldn’t say those words aloud. She couldn’t admit directly that she wanted to get close to Wang Chulin through her brother.

Ruan Longling cleared her throat and said seriously, “Mr. Ge is already very old, and he will be very tired after giving lectures every day. How can Mr. Ge have so much energy to give you special advice? I just happened to find another teacher to check for your shortcomings; why not do it?”

Ruan Chengfeng nodded.

“The third sister said it politely. Where is that master now? I will take a bath and burn incense, change my clothes, prepare generous gifts, and sincerely go to my teacher.”
