I Gave Birth to a Cub without Telling the Head Assistant - Chapter 25.2

Chapter 25.2
Some folks out there have unique bodies that make it tough for them to get pregnant. That’s why you could see couples who were super loving but had been childless for years.
The Liu family was pretty narrow-minded and worried that Ruan Longling would be a hen who couldn’t lay eggs. Therefore, they sent a doctor to examine her when she was engaged to her former fiancé.
The examination result was positive, and her body was actually really good at conceiving!
‘But what if Wang Chulin’s seeds aren’t good? But then again, most martial artists are fit and healthy, right?’ Ruan Longling remembered the time Wang Chulin was surrounded by bandits; he moved like a dragon.
‘Yes, his seeds should be fine. I have to ensure he gets some good food over the next ten days!’Thinking that, she called her maid, “A Xing! Get everyone to gather all kinds of ingredients—ginseng, epimedium, oysters, walnuts, and…” she said, a big list of ingredients. “The higher the quality, the better! We can afford it!”
Ah Xing looked confused for a moment. “Miss, why do you need so many things?”
‘Well, it’s all about boosting Wang Chulin’s health.’Suppressing the smile, Ruan Longling replied with a straight face.“Of course, it’s for my second brother-in-law as a tonic! Haven’t you noticed how my second sister’s been looking worse every time she visits our parents? Her mood seems to be getting worse too. If she were happy, she’d have a healthy glow, but she looks like she’s fading. When I asked her what her problem was, she didn’t say anything…”
She let out a heavy breath before continuing, “I seriously suspect that it’s because my second brother-in-law is suffering from physical problems, and there’s discord between the two of them, and they can’t bring themselves to tell me, their unmarried sister… so I can’t help but take the initiative to show some concern!”
Thinking how considerate her master was, Ah Xing’s face brightened up, showing a spark of realization. “Just as I thought, the young lady is incredibly wise! I’ll make sure to send the message!” she quickly nodded and exclaimed.
‘My second brother-in-law probably has no clue about what went down today, right?
That’s just how it is.
Not a big deal.
You’ll find out when the time comes.
The Feng family rakes in a ton of cash from the Ruan family’s business every year! They wouldn’t sweat the small stuff.
But here I am, in the temple, right under the Bodhisattva’s gase…
Monks can’t harm animals, can’t eat meat, and are stuck with vegetarian meals… If they wanted to slaughter chickens and ducks for some hearty nourishment, that’s just not happening.
But warm tonics should be fine, right?’
Ruan Longling pushed herself up from the couch, made her way to the desk in the centre of the Buddhist hall, grabbed a brush from the inkstone, and started jotting down the names of dishes on some yellowed rice paper…
****
“Brother Chulin, while the monk chefs at Xiangguo Temple might not match the skills of those at Tianxialou, their vegetarian dishes are still super tasty!”
After a restful afternoon, Ruan Longling looked much healthier, sitting at the dining table with a bright smile, eagerly serving food to the man across from her.
“This dish is so appetising and energising; this one is refreshing and delicious, and this one has a fantastic colour, aroma, and taste… You’ve got to try them all; they’re great for your health!”
Stir-fried chives.
Yam and goji berry soup.
Scallion pancakes.
Tuna egg pancakes.
Kelp soup.
All these were carefully chosen by Ruan Longling, perfect for boosting health and fighting off fatigue!
With such enthusiastic attention, the bowls and plates in front of Li Zhulin quickly turned into a small mountain. He picked up some food from his bowl and took a few bites.
“It’s really good.”
“Of course!”
“I specially asked the monk chef to make these according to Brother Chulin’s taste… it took a lot of effort!”
Ruan Longling smiled widely, as if asking for praise.
Li Zhulin quickly found another key point in her words. He raised his eyebrows, his eyes full of interest. “Oh? Could it be that Miss Ruan would take such pains to remember the tastes of every guest who stays at Tianxia Louyuan Hotel?”
“???”
There were eighteen courtyards in the Tianxia Building! However, not all courtyards have one guest. Most of the time, there were four or five distinguished guests at a time in the same courtyards.
How could anyone possibly keep track of them all?
“How can anyone else compare to Brother Chulin? Longling has a terrible memory. Since Tianxialou opened, the only one she remembers is Brother Chulin.” Ruan Longling looked up at him, her eyes shining with affection, then quickly lowered her gaze.
‘This clever businesswoman knows how to charm people.’ What man could resist a woman’s special attention? Especially when that woman was as stunning and captivating as she was. Whether it was sweet words or just flattery… Li Zhulin couldn’t help but feel pleased.
He smiled slightly, picked up the bowl and spoon, scooped some yam and wolfberry soup, and offered it to her.
“Miss. Ruan, you have a real talent for words.”
Ruan Longling eagerly accepted the porcelain bowl and took the vegetable soup.
When she looked up and saw the smile on his face, she realised her words had clearly made an impact. ‘Oh, you were so serious before, but now a few kind words have you all flustered, huh?’She realised that she had a handle on the situation. But honestly, ever since Li Zhulin started to relax around her and the ice began to melt, Ruan Longling felt that he wasn’t as intimidating as she once thought. In fact, he was surprisingly easy and enjoyable to be around.
With a thoughtful smile, she picked up another piece of Chinese toon egg pancake and placed it in his bowl.
Xiangguo Temple, nestled in the mountains, had a strict schedule for the monks. So before midnight, besides the eternal lamp in the Buddhist hall, most lights in the monks’ quarters were turned off.
Li Zhulin had not yet rested.
He stood by the window, gazing at the full moon shining brightly in the night sky.
Memories of the past few days raced through his mind, and Ruan Longling’s face dominated his thoughts. Her expressions shifted from joy to anger, her eyes sparkling, and her smile radiant.
He recalled what she said during the fight. “Brother Chulin, I’m here; don’t be scared.” In that moment of peril, despite her fear, she had bravely stepped in front of him to shield him from danger. “Brother Chulin, please don’t get into trouble…”
Those memories flickered through his mind, intertwined with her vibrant and spirited presence.
Li Zhulin turned his gaze to the hefty stack of Heart Purification Mantras. In the past, when his teacher had asked him to copy scriptures, he had never felt bothered. But now, it felt like a dark force was consuming him.
Suddenly, he heard hurried footsteps approaching from the courtyard! With his keen hearing, he was on high alert. Could it be that the remnants of the black-clad men from yesterday were still around? Were they planning to strike back and finish what they started?
His eyes narrowed as he moved toward the door, ready to spring into action, pulling out the wooden plug and preparing to attack anyone who dared to enter.
With a loud “clang,” the wooden door swung open, and the familiar face that had just been on his mind stepped in. She looked terrified, panic etched across her features. The moment she spotted him, it was as if she had found her lifeline!
She rushed forward, throwing herself into his arms and wrapping her arms tightly around his slender waist.
Then she looked up at him with tears in her eyes.
“Brother Chulin, there’s a wolf! I’m scared!”
