I Gave Birth to a Cub without Telling the Head Assistant - Chapter 27.2

Chapter 27.2
Yunfeng, who was waiting in the courtyard, was surprised to see Li Zhulin appear in such a way. He knew the Prime Minister always looked sharp and followed the rules, whether at home or out. So, it was pretty odd to see him leave the house without even a coat.
Li Zhulin took a deep breath to calm himself and then issued two firm commands. “You need to heal her injury within two days, no matter what.” He added, “And get ten buckets of cold water for the bath.”
Yunfeng nodded respectfully, replying, “Got it.”
Li Zhulin wasn’t the only one feeling the effects of that kiss earlier. The woman on the couch felt completely wiped out, unable to move. She touched her soft lips with her fingers, replaying the moment in her mind.
Meanwhile, in Yangzhou city, at the Feng Mansion, Ruan Liyun and her maid Cuihu were getting ready to head out. Walking through the flower-adorned gate of the inner courtyard, they noticed her mother-in-law, Mrs. Fang, approaching, supported by a woman in bright pink and heavy makeup.
Even though the Feng family held an official status, their offspring had only managed to secure minor positions in the county government. Still, that didn’t stop Mrs. Fang from looking down on Ruan Liyun, the daughter-in-law from a merchant background.
Mrs. Fang stood in front of Ruan Liyun and smirked. “If I remember right, this is your fourth visit to your parent’s home this month, right?”
Ruan Liyun felt annoyed when she stopped by her mother-in-law, but she could only bite her lip and murmur, “I got a letter from home saying my third sister has to be away for a few days because of something urgent. But with the Ruan family business being so large and so many guests at Tianxia Building… I’m really worried, so I want to check on my family members.”
Mrs. Fang shot her daughter-in-law a sideways glance. “Look at her, always bringing up her family and the Ruan clan. Tell me, which matters more to you: your own family or the Feng family you married into?
There’s a saying that a woman should listen to her father before marriage, her husband after, and her son after her husband passes. Since you’re part of the Feng family now, you should prioritize us in everything!
You’ve been with the Feng family for five years, and all you’ve given us is a daughter. Not a son. I bet you’re too focused on your own family rather than having a son.”
In front of all the servants, Mrs. Fang didn’t hold back. She openly discussed such topics, clearly showing she had no intention of sparing Ruan Liyun’s feelings.
Usually, after Mrs. Fang said those harsh words, she would let go of Ruan Liyun, but today was different.
Once Mrs. Fang finished her rant, she pulled over the woman in the pink dress, who had a slightly cheeky look in her eyes. “Even though you’re a hen that can’t lay eggs, luckily for my Feng family, Ying’er just got the news from the doctor that she’s three months pregnant! And guess what? They say it’s definitely going to be a boy!”
Ying’er stood next to Fang, gently rubbing her belly and shooting Ruan Liyun a smug look as if she had nothing to worry about.
Ruan Liyun remained unfazed, acting like it was none of her business. “Oh, well, I guess I’ll congratulate you in advance on your future grandson,” she said casually.
The words seemed light, but they had a deep meaning!
Mrs.Fang noticed Ruan Liyun’s strange and unhappy expression and lost her temper.
“Let’s be real, Ying’er was a singer previously, but her family background isn’t that far off from your merchant family. Honestly, she’s smarter than you. And since she’s carrying our Feng family’s son, I’m planning to make her your co-wife after she gives birth. So… you’ll be sharing a husband!”
Then the old woman pointed at Ruan Liyun and commanded. “A woman’s pregnancy lasts for ten months and requires someone to take care of her. This task falls on you. You are not allowed to go out until Ying’er gives birth to a baby boy! Help Ying’er to have a safe pregnancy. Do you hear me?”
‘Even if I’m a businesswoman, I can’t share a husband with a prostitute!’Although Mrs. Feng didn’t mind it, Ruan Liyun couldn’t tolerate such a thing. ‘I have to take care of you and take care of you during the pregnancy? I can’t go out for seven whole months?’Ruan Liyun’s face immediately darkened.
At this moment, Ying’er noticed that Ruan Liyun’s expression was not right, and she pretended to be timid and took a few steps forward. However, there was a sense of complacency in her eyes.
“Sister Liyun…it was the old lady who decided to make Ying’er her co-wife. You won’t be angry, will you? Don’t worry, you came into the family early, and Ying’er will definitely serve you well in the future…” she said timidly while touching Ruan Liyun’s collar lightly.
Fingertips with bright red polished nails lightly brushed against the edge of Ruan Liyun’s clothes.
“Don’t touch me with your filthy hands!”
Even though the push wasn’t that strong, Ying’er acted like she’d been hit hard, collapsing to the ground and clutching her stomach in agony.
A sharp-eyed maid nearby spotted a small red mark on the floor and shouted,
“Blood! Blood! Hurry! Get a doctor!”
*****
It was the first quarter of the night.
At Xiangguo Temple, a stunning woman in a silver-white cloak glided through the courtyard like a fairy under the moonlight. She finally stopped in front of the southeast corner of the darkened Buddhist temple.
Ruan Longling noticed the room was completely dark, with no candles lit. Seeing the firmly shut door, she felt a wave of disappointment wash over her.
‘This guy should know I’m scared of the howling wolves at night and would definitely come looking for him again, yet he didn’t even leave the door ajar? Did I push him too far last night?’
It had been a whole day without seeing Li Zhulin, and she had to eat alone.
‘Why is he so unpredictable?!’
Frustrated, Ruan Longling lightly nudged the wooden door with her fingertips, only to find it actually opened!
It turned out it was just half-closed, not locked!
Feeling a rush of excitement, she stepped into the room quietly and turned to lock the door behind her.
The bright moonlight streamed through the yellowish window panes, casting a glow on the bed frame. The guy who had kissed her passionately that morning was now sprawled on the left side of the bed in his pajamas, completely unaware of her presence.
There was a big empty spot on the right side of the bed, almost like it was left there on purpose.
She couldn’t tell if he was genuinely asleep or just faking it…
Ruan Longling wanted to get his attention, so she pulled something out from her bosom and held it up, whispering, “Brother Chulin, I brought my own pillow today.”
“…”
No reply.
‘Alright then.’
Guess he had already fallen asleep, Ruan Longling carefully made her way to the bedside, slipped off her shoes and socks, and settled into the empty space on the bed, trying not to wake him up.
She was still a bit unsure about his mood and didn’t want to make any sudden moves, especially not like she did that night.
Being on her best behaviour, she closed her eyes, ready to drift off to sleep…
Just as she was about to doze off, she heard his clear voice.
“Is your arm wound healed?”
“Yeah… it’s scabbed over. A doctor came this morning. The redness and swelling are gone, and I’m all good now.”
“Okay.”
He turned away from her. “The vegetarian dishes at Xiangguo Temple are too light. You need some meat to get your strength back. You should find another farmhouse and take care of yourself properly.”
‘Oh! Good things are coming.’ Hearing the man’s words Ruan Longling was over the moon.
