Chapter 10.3

Li Zhi had some drinks with Shen Tingwen at night. As it got dark, Li Zhi stood up and said goodbye.

Shen Tingwen personally sent Li Zhi away.

Li Zhi arrived alone on a horse, and when he left the street where Shen’s mansion was, he pulled out the little piece of paper from his shirt. 

There were houses of the officials on both sides of the alley, and each house had two lanterns hanging in front of the gates, making the whole alley light up. Shen Qingqing carefully thought about it and decided how to get her shoes. She was scared that it would be discovered and cause trouble for the Shen family. Because of that, she wrote ugly letters and even didn’t write her name on the note.

Li Zhi held the thin note and saw through Shen Qingqing’s thoughts at a glance.

‘She was truly worthy of being the daughter of the Shen family.’ Li Zhi smiled and put the note away again.

Shen Qingqing had trouble sleeping that night. She wanted Li Zhi to do what he said he would, but she doubted he would. She didn’t think he was very polite.

In the morning, Shen Jiayi, the sixth girl, came to visit. After drinking tea, she started smiling and asking questions. She asked about how her uncle knew the Marquis of Pingxi and how they became friends.

Shen Qingqing’s family had recently experienced an incident. They were held up by thieves on their way back to Beijing. Before we could do anything, Ping Xihou happened to walk by. He was in charge of a group of men and caught the robbers quickly. “They helped us, so dad will definitely pay them back.”

Shen Jiayi said, “I understand. People say Ping Xihou is tolerant and open-minded, and I can see that it’s true. I thought he would only act in front of others because of the royal concubine.” 

Shen Qingqing didn’t want any more family members to be deceived by Li Zhi and hummed. “Actually, we have people around us, and we can solve the problem without him taking action. He just wants to have a good reputation. You see, how grateful my father and mother are to him now. He exchanged a little effort for a good reputation and made a lot of money at a low price. It is indeed the style of a businessman.”

Shen Jiayi blinked and said, “I don’t think it can happen. The seventh sister has been away from the city for a while, and she doesn’t know about it. Ping Xihou is well-liked and respected in the capital. Yes, some people make fun of him, but he doesn’t let it bother him. Some people praise him, but he doesn’t pay attention to it. He is calm and kind, and Ping Xihou is already twenty-four years old, and he doesn’t have a woman. He is even less feminine than our grandfather.”

Shen Qingqing subconsciously insulted Li Zhi and whispered. “Twenty-four is considered an old man. Grandfather has a grandmother in his heart. It is normal not to be close to women. Ping Xihou doesn’t have any women. He must be suffering from some unspeakable secret.”

Shen Qingqing also understood that she had made a mistake with her words. She looked around, and the two sisters chuckled together.
