Noble Son-in-Law - Chapter 19.1

Chapter 19.1
Li Zhi made an appearance, and the eldest lady wanted to see the drama that would happen, but Mrs. Chen didn’t give her a chance as she invited Li Zhi directly to the third room.
Shen Su went with his mother to entertain the visitors.
Although Mrs. Chan had a negative perspective about this future son-in-law because of her daughter’s attitude towards the man, she knew that Li Zhi was an important figure in the court as much as her father-in-law. So she thought that she should respect this son-in-law who fell out of thin air.
“Master Marquis, please take a seat.” The third lady said with a smile.
Li Zhi returned the courtesy and behaved like a gentleman. “Auntie, you’re welcome. You can call me by my name from now on.”
As Li Zhi called her “aunty,” it would be easy to talk with him, but Mrs. Chen was only seven years older than Li Zhi, so she couldn’t pronounce Li Zhi’s name directly. ‘No wonder my daughter thinks Li Zhi is old and feels awkward.’ “Don’t you need to enter the palace today?” Mrs. Chen cleverly omitted the title.
Li Zhi said with an apologetical smile, “I discussed the marriage with my uncle, but I didn’t ask my aunt for instructions, so I came here to apologise today.”
The man’s eyes were steady, and his words and deeds were graceful, as if he were born a nobleman, and Mrs. Chen felt pleased after looking at him for a while. “What’s wrong with you? To be honest, it’s us who should thank you. If it weren’t for you, Qingqing might not be able to escape unscathed that day.”
Li Zhi shook his head in shame. .
Long before Mrs. Chen went to welcome Li Zhi, Shen Qingqing and Mrs. Song hid in the west chamber, peering through the curtain’s gaps at everything in the hall. Seeing that her mother treated Li Zhi as a guest, but Li Zhi shamelessly continued to pretend to be her saviour, Shen Qingqing was filled with hatred. “Grandma, look at his villainous face!”
Mrs. Song looked on silently, thinking that Marquis Ping Xihou was very good-looking, at least worthy of her granddaughter in terms of appearance. “Look again.” Mrs. Song gently touched her granddaughter’s head.
Shen Qingqing bit her lip. She wanted to see what other tricks Li Zhi wanted to play today.
“Thanks to my uncle’s love and the marriage granted by the Emperor, I am overjoyed, but I wonder if the seventh girl is willing.” Li Zhi asked, glancing at Mrs. Chen. When he finished speaking, he lowered his gaze and said, “I am seven years older than her.”
Shen Qingqing thought to herself. ‘Why do you still propose marriage if you know that I don’t want to?’
Strange to say, as if he knew what Shen Qingqing was thinking, Li Zhi suddenly sighed. “However, due to the situation, in order to prevent the seventh girl from marrying the prince… I can only go to my uncle to confess my feelings.”
Seeing the dignified commander of the Forbidden Army speaking this way, Mrs. Chen hurriedly said, “Master Marqus, please don’t belittle yourself. Looking at the capital, in terms of character, merit, and even appearance, how many people can compare with Master Marqus? It is a blessing for me and my husband to have Master Marqus as my son-in-law. It’s just that my daughter is young. She is young and ignorant; she, she… Don’t worry, we will definitely persuade our daughter.”
Li Zhi immediately said, “I appreciate Auntie’s kindness. If the seventh girl is still unwilling to marry, then I will find an opportunity to take back the decree.”
Shen Qingqing’s eyes lit up. ‘Is this true?’
Mrs. Song giggled quietly as she cast a quick glimpse at her granddaughter’s instantly brightened face. ‘This Marqus Ping Xihou has a great speaking ability.’
Mrs. Chen was not in the mood to examine the sincerity of Li Zhi’s attempts to greet her. All she knew was that Empress Shen had first preferred her daughter and that Concubine Chun had later taken her away to become her future sister-in-law. ‘Which household in the capital would dare to marry a woman who was linked with the prince and the concubine’s brother, even if Li Zhi managed to get the emperor to revoke his decree? So this marriage must happen.’
“Your Majesty, your words are serious. We understand.” Mrs. Chen relaxed the heavy atmosphere.
Shen Qingqing was greatly disappointed by her mother’s insistence, but she soon came to her thoughts. The Emperor’s offer of marriage was not easy to refuse, and Li Zhi was so hypocritical!
Just when Shen Qingqing was dejected and didn’t want to listen anymore, Li Zhi’s voice came over again. “Auntie, Miss Seven may have some misunderstandings about me. I want to clarify it with her in person. I wonder if you can be accommodating.”
Shen Qingqing’s body tightened. ‘How dare this villain?’
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Chen almost went to look at the west room. Fortunately, she reacted in time, and her expression quickly returned to normal. She smiled and said, “Since there is a misunderstanding, of course I have to make it clear, but Qingqing went to her sixth sister’s place. In this way, I’ll send someone to call her back. Lord Marquis, please go to the garden with Brother Su. I’ll let you know when Qingqing arrives.”
Li Zhi stood up and said, “Thank you, Auntie.”
After saying that, Li Zhi followed Shen Su.
Have a nice day!
