Noble Son-in-Law - Chapter 20.3
Chapter 20.3
Shen Qingqing didn’t have to be at home as she expected because, not long after Shen Jiarong entered the palace, Second Master Shen and his wife picked a good husband for their beloved daughter. He was the eldest son of the Guo Mansion, whose name was Guo Chengxu.
The day Guo Chengxu came to the Shen family, Shen Qingqing hid behind the screen with Shen Jiayi.
When Shen Qingqing saw Guo Chengxu was a tall, handsome man with fair skin, she felt happy for her cousin. The only negative point she found was that the man’s face. She felt like he had a baby face and looked like a teenager of fifteen or sixteen, despite the man being actually twenty years old.
“He looks quite cute.” Shen Qingqing whispered to her cousin.
Upon hearing that Shen Jiayi didn’t know whether to blush or worry, ‘What would I do if he acts like a child?’
The marriage was settled, and Shen Jiayi got married in April of the following year.
When Shen Jiayi and her husband visited the Shen family after the wedding, the two cousins hid in the room.
“How is it? Is the sixth brother-in-law nice to you?” Shen Qingqing asked with a smile.
Shen Jiayi styled her hair into a young woman’s bun, and the bashful and charming expression of a newlywed bride mirrored in the corners of her eyes. She answered coyly, “Very good.”
“Does the sixth brother-in-law look like a child?” Shen Qingqing couldn’t help but ask.
Upon hearing her innocent cousin’s question, Shen Jiayi’s face became hot. From her wedding night, she clearly got to know the man behind that baby face. Guo Chengxu became a different person at night and constantly pestered her. Thinking that Guo Chengxu was already so capable at the age of 21, Shen Jiayi looked at the Seventh Sister in front of her and couldn’t help but be worried about her.
Li Ziyi was ten years older than Shen Qingqing.
“Why are you looking at me like this?” Shen Qinqqing asked, seeing her cousin’s strange look.
Shen Jiayi grinned strangely and added, “I won’t tell you right now. I’ll tell you something before you marry.”
ShenQingqing: “…”
Shen Jiayi followed Guo Chengxu back to Yongchang Mansion in the afternoon.

There were seven girls in the Shen family, and Shen Qingqing was the only unmarried one.
Because of this, she felt uneasy, thinking that her marriage would hold quickly.
Sure enough, as she expected, in June, the matchmaker invited by Li Zhi cheerfully returned to the Shen family’s door to arrange a wedding date with Mrs. Chen after a long time.
Over the past year, Li Zhi has paid close attention to Shen Tingwen and his wife. When he saw Shen Tingwen at the palace, he addressed him as “uncle.” During festivals, Li Zhi will personally visit the Shen family with gifts.
Shen Tingwen looked at Li Zhi because of his respectable behaviour. The more comfortable he became, the less he understood his daughter’s aversion to Li Zhi.
“Qingqing, these are the auspicious days chosen by the Li family. You decide.” After sending the matchmaker away, Mrs. Chen approached her daughter and stated.
Shen Qingqing took the red paper and found five auspicious days written on it. The earliest date was August this year, and the latest was next spring.
“This is it.” Shen Qingqing tapped on the auspicious day at the bottom without hesitation.
Mrs. Chen: ‘…How did the prospective son-in-law offend my precious daughter?’
However, on the other hand, Mrs. Chen was also happy that her daughter selected that date. She also wanted to keep her daughter under her care for more days.

After a few days, when the matchmaker got to know the auspicious date the Shen family had selected, she felt panic in her heart. ‘Would the Marquis be unhappy? If the Marquis is unhappy, will he give me less reward?’
After informing Li Zhi of the matter, the matchmaker secretly glanced at the handsome man in front of her.
“Thank you.” Li Zhi put down the red paper and said with a smile. After stating this, he instructed Ah Rong, the boy next to him, to reward the matchmaker.
Ah Rong had already prepared a big red envelope.
When the matchmaker held the big red envelope, she burst into laughter and left with satisfaction.
“Master Marquis, when are we going to welcome the bride?” Ah Rong asked happily.
Li Zhi looked at the red paper and raised the corners of his lips before replying, “Next March…when the flowers bloom.”

In a blink of an eye, the wedding date of Shen Qingqing and Li Zhi was finally approached.
Li Zhi sent betrothal gifts to the Shen Mansion five days before the wedding.
When the servants of Li Zhi’s mansion took betrothal gifts inside the Shen Mansion, people gathered outside the Shen Mansion. Seeing how generous Marqus Pingxihou was, people understood that the Marqus Pingxihou family had great achievements and that the Seventh Girl of the Shen family was lucky.
Seeing the amount of gifts, the Eldest Lady’s eyes nearly popped out.
Both her sisters-in-law were legitimate daughters of noble families from the capital, and when they married, both brought large dowries. But Li Zhi’s betrothal gifts were even more lavish and expensive, making the Elders Lady’s heart ache.
Before this day, the Eldest Lady always felt that her daughter would be the best to marry among the girls in the Shen Family: a dignified concubine of the East Palace, so noble and decent! But now, seeing the wealth of Pingxihou Mansion through the betrothal gift, the Eldest Lady clutched the handkerchief in her hand, unable to suppress the envy and jealousy arising from the bottom of her heart.
Furthermore, her daughter has been married for almost two years, but there was still no good news, while the son of the Crown Princess was already one month old!
“Sister-in-law, what are you looking at?” The Second Lady smiled and approached.
The Eldest Lady pursed her lips and calmly stated, “Our seventh uncle was a wealthy businessman from Jiangnan before becoming an official. Today, he looks like a prosperous businessman.”
“Well, Qingqing is lucky. She has money to live a good life in the future also. With money, you can buy whatever you like. Only then will you be happy.” The Second Lady seemed not to understand her sarcasm, smiled, and said.
Upon hearing that, the Eldest Lady became more frustrated. She had worked hard for half her life, but the only thing missing was money!
“How can one live his whole life just for some yellowish and white vulgar things?” The Eldest Lady lifted her chin and spoke righteously.
When the Second Lady heard this, she laughed it off. ‘After more than ten years as sisters-in-law, do you think I can’t understand your thoughts?’’
Have a nice day!
