Noble Son-in-Law - Chapter 24.2
Chapter 24.2
Li Zhi had finished eating the yam cake when he walked out of the main courtyard. After using his index finger to wipe the corners of his mouth, he tilted his head and said to Shen Qingqing, “Look, is my mouth clean? I don’t want to be a joke.”
Upon hearing that, Shen Qingqing had no choice but to look at him. Seeing that the corners of the man’s lips were clean, she immediately looked away and said, “It’s clean.”
All of a sudden, Li Zhi said, “Your teeth are not clean. It appears to have jujube stains on it.”
“What?”Startled, Shen Qingqing grabbed the purse around her waist.
Shen Qingqing always carried a mirror with her since she was old enough to appreciate beauty. Now she didn’t use the small bronze mirror that was initially blurry to a palm-sized rouge box. Before the wedding, Shen Qingqing’s grandmother gave her a new mirror with a round diorama lens attached to the inside of the lid, which illuminated the reflection clearly.
Shen Qingqing quickly opened the rouge box after taking it out, making sure to cover her face with her left hand.
However, she didn’t see anything on her teeth: they were white and clean, without any dirt.
Shen Qingqing clenched her teeth after realizing that Li Zhi had deceived her. She napped, closed the rouge box, and put it into her purse with a cold face.
When Li Zhi saw all of this, he was initially taken aback. He never thought the girl would take a mirror with her. “I just want to make you smile. Only when you smile, you look like a newlywed.”
Shen Qingqing felt what Li Zhi said made sense. “Master Marquis, don’t worry; I know what to do.” Shen Qingqing said coldly.
After that, Li Zhi became silent.
They continued walking till they came to Wanfu Hall, the yard of Mrs. Zhu, Li Zhi’s grandmother. Wanfu Hall faced south and shared a line with Li Zhi’s residence.
After leaving the main courtyard, you could go through the Liangmen Gate in a row. Seeing this, Shen Qingqing knew that Mrs. Zhu had a high status in the Li family, unlike some wealthy families who would arrange for the old lady to live in a relatively remote house.
‘Thinking of Li Zhi’s parents passing away early, it seems the brother and sister are raised by Mrs. Zhu. Mrs. Zhu, who could raise treacherous ministers like Li Zhi and beloved concubines like Chun Guifei, is definitely not a simple person.’
Shen Qingqing thought when she entered Wanfu Hall.
The members of the Li family were already in the Wanfu Hall when the newlywed couple entered the hall.
Sitting in the middle was the elderly woman Zhu, dressed in a purple gown with cloud embroidery. She was an elderly woman in her sixties. She was extremely well-maintained and had lived a lifetime of luxury. Her thick, black hair only slightly interfered with the young woman’s. She had no wrinkles and had a radiant face.
She only had a few deep fishtails in the corners of her eyes. Her eyes looked bright and strong, not angry but proud.
On the lower left corner of Old Mrs. Zhu were Mr. Li, Li Zhi’s second uncle, and his family. Wine and sex hollowed out Mr. Li’s body, making him appear older than his actual age. He was a womanizer.
The second wife had a broad-minded appearance, a fair complexion, and thin eyebrows with kind eyes.
However, Shen Qingqing was informed that none of the concubines in Mr. Li’s backyard were able to produce an heir. It was unclear if someone had pulled some shady tricks or if Mr. Li was doomed to have few descendants.
The fourth girl, Li Zhen, looked like the second wife. She had a natural smile and seemed to be easy to get along with.
Sitting on the lower right side of the old lady Zhu were Li Zhi’s third uncle, Li Sanye, and his family of three.
Li Sanye’s son Li He, was only eighteen years old. His facial features took after his father’s, and he stood out from the crowd. However, Li He looked solemn and serious. His younger sister, the fifth girl, Li Yu, had long eyebrows and phoenix eyes. She had a typical appearance of the Li family. She was also extremely beautiful in the circle of ladies in the capital.
When Shen Qingqing entered the door, she quickly glanced around and recognized everyone based on the information she had received previously.
Only the legendary and very beautiful Miss Jiang did not appear next to Mrs. Zhu.
Shen Qingqing felt somewhat let down. She didn’t want to compete with Miss Jiang, but Shen Qingqing wanted to see how beautiful Miss Jiang was.
Mrs. Zhu and other people were watching her as she was observing the Li family.
The female family members were okay.
But the second uncle, Mr. Li, stared at his charming niece-in-law with his lustful eyes. His eyes almost popped out of his head.
Noticing her husband’s behaviour, the second wife coughed lightly, and Mr. Li restrained himself, but he still secretly looked at his gorgeous niece-in-law.
This did not surprise Li Zhi, who was well aware of the virtues of his second uncle. What surprised him was that his cousin Li He, who only read books about sages, actually took another look at Shen Qingqing.
