According to Li Zhi’s instructions, Ah Rong went to bring the clerk from the jewellry store. 

By the time the couple finished their breakfast, the clerk had already shown up with some stunning jewellry pieces.

When the box was opened, a dazzling array of jewelry was revealed. Shen Qingqing’s eyes lit up at the sight of a pair of gold bracelets embedded with rubies. There were at least twenty pigeon blood gemstones the size of peas on one bracelet, and a pair of The total number of bracelets showed that they were extremely valuable. Such bracelets were rare even in the palace.

Noticing Shen Qingqing’s interest, the middle-aged clerk smiled and asked, “Madam, would you like to try them on?”

Shen Qingqing quickly shook her head, saying, “These treasures are meant for someone of noble status.”

What she said was true. Even if she wanted to buy the bracelets, she wouldn’t dare to. ‘What would be the point? Keeping them at home seems pointless, and wearing them would draw too much attention.’She figured Li Zhi’s family members probably didn’t own anything so extravagant, and she was curious about where this jewelry store had such items.

The clerk fell silent.

Li Zhi then picked up the bracelets and took Shen Qingqing’s hand.

With others and maids around, Shen Qingqing shot him a disapproving look, but Li Zhi just smiled and said, “Come on, Madam, try them on. If they don’t suit you, I won’t buy them.”

He wouldn’t take no for an answer, and despite her reluctance, Shen Qingqing found herself trying on the bracelets.

‘Wow, those ruby-studded bracelets were heavy!’

Shen Qingqing quickly put it on and took it off without really checking it out. If she had taken her time, she might have hesitated to remove it!

“It’s way too heavy and uncomfortable,” Shen Qingqing said with a serious look of disgust.

Li Zhi weighed the bracelet in his hands, nodded in agreement, and then set it back down.

In the end, Shen Qingqing chose a unique sapphire hairpin and also picked out a big emerald ring for Mrs. Zhu. 

She was sure that the entire Li Family was aware of this matter by now, and if she picked something only for her, it might upset the elders. 

“My wife is so thoughtful; I didn’t even think about honoring my grandmother,” Li Zhi said with a smile in front of the jewelry store staff.

Shen Qingqing played along, saying, “As a granddaughter-in-law, it’s my duty to show her respect.”

Li Zhi asked Ah Rong to see the guests out, then he and Shen Qingqing headed to Wanfu Hall to deliver the gifts.

Mrs. Zhu was thrilled to receive the present. She smiled and asked Shen Qingqing if she had picked out what she wanted.

Shen Qingqing lowered her head a bit and replied softly, “Master Li helped me choose this hairpin.”

Mrs. Zhu seemed to have just noticed the sapphire hairpin in her granddaughter-in-law’s hair. She complimented its beauty before playfully tugging at Shen Qingqing’s hairpin. 

Turning to Li Zhi, she said, “Gifts don’t matter much. What matters is that you two are living a happy life, and that makes me so glad. If you give me a great-grandson, I’ll have no regrets in this life!”

Shen Qingqing felt a bit shy and lowered her head.

Li Zhi confidently replied, “Don’t worry, Grandma, we’ll have one next year.”

Just then, Jiang Yiyue walked in. Noticing the smile on Mrs. Zhu’s face, she eagerly asked, “What’s the good news, Grandma? Spill it!”

Mrs. Zhu glanced at the shy granddaughter-in-law and didn’t mention about having a great-grandson. She just said that she got a gift.

Jiang Yiyue moved affectionately to Mrs. Zhu’s side, gently massaging her shoulders and said, “Brother Zhongchang must have been wise to pick such a wonderful granddaughter-in-law like my sister-in-law for you.”

Mrs. Zhu nodded enthusiastically.

Li Zhi chuckled and added, “Grandma, don’t just focus on me. Zhongjing isn’t getting any younger. My third uncle is swamped with the family business and can’t look after him. You should help find him a good wife too.”

As he said this, Li Zhi shot a subtle glance at his little wife.

When Shen Qingqing realized the conversation had shifted away from her, she dropped the act of being shy and looked up at Mrs. Zhu like she usually did. As for Li Zhi’s suggestion, it made sense since Li He was at the right age to settle down. Shen Qingqing didn’t find it surprising that Li Zhi was bringing this up with Mrs. Zhu.

Mrs. Zhu nodded and turned to Shen Qingqing, saying, “Your grandma doesn’t go out much anymore. Since you’re the eldest sister-in-law, keep an eye on Zhongjing. If you come across a suitable girl, let me know.” 

Shen Qingqing smiled and replied, “Sure, but don’t blame me if I pick someone young and inexperienced.”

After they returned from Wanfu Hall, Li Zhi took a sip of tea and looked at Shen Qingqing, saying, “I really need to keep an eye on you, Second Brother. You should step up your game.”

Noticing his serious tone, Shen Qingqing asked, “You need to tell me what kind of girl your second brother likes and what he expects in terms of family background. How am I supposed to choose from all the ladies in the capital otherwise?” 

Li He was quite the catch, and Shen Qingqing didn’t want to just pick anyone for him.

Li Zhi replied kindly, “Alright, I’ll check with my second brother later.”

Shen Qingqing agreed and headed to the inner room to freshen up. She just wore the sapphire hairpin for Mrs. Zhu to see. If she kept wearing it when she returned, Li Zhi might think she really liked the gift he had given her.

Just as Yu Chan was taking off the hairpin, Li Zhi walked in.

Yu Chan quickly swapped out a hairpin for Shen Qingqing and then dashed off.

Li Zhi strolled over to the dressing table and carefully set a box down in front of Shen Qingqing.

Shen Qingqing recognized the box right away. She looked up, her face a mix of shock and confusion.

Li Zhi opened the box to reveal a stunning pair of gold and red gemstone bracelets. Locking eyes with Shen Qingqing, he said, “These treasures are meant for someone noble, and with me, the Seventh Girl is truly the best in the world. No one could compare with you.”

Shen Qingqing: ‘Are those words a bit too sweet?’

Still, even though she knew he was trying to charm her, she couldn’t help but feel a flicker of happiness.

Just as Shen Qingqing was trying to shake off the unexpected joy, Li Zhi gently took her small hand and slipped the bracelet on.
