The eldest lady told Jinshu to move away, and then she opened the box.

 It was full of beautiful accessories like pretty carved hairpins, red earrings, and green bracelets.

 “Is this really true?” Shen Jiarong asked while gently touching a red earring with her shaky voice.

 The eldest lady has been married to an official for a very long time. Even though she didn’t have those kinds of things, she had seen many good things from other noble ladies. After looking closely, she felt glad and unsure. “Why are they suddenly being so kind over there?”

 Shen Jiarong just ran into the eldest lady’s room with the jewellery box and started getting ready in front of the mirror.

 The eldest lady looked at her pretty daughter and felt very happy all of a sudden. She laughed and said, “That’s all, silly girl. If you keep dressing like that, you’ll be in trouble with your grandpa.”

Shen Jiarong was shocked and then looked at herself in the mirror.

 “Mom, why?”

 “Don’t you understand? Why did she give those things? Why didn’t I see her reward you before? Do you want to go against your grandfather and fall out of favour?” The eldest lady asked angrily.

When Shen Jiarong heard this, she was both angry and reluctant to return the jewellery. After a moment of embarrassment, Shen Jiarong smiled and said proudly, “Mom, don’t be angry. I just don’t have to wear it in front of my grandfather. We’ll just keep them and use when grandfather is not there.”

 The eldest lady thought for a while, looked at her daughter, and smiled.

In the third room, Shen Qingqing brought the newly acquired jewellery to her mother.

 Mrs. Chen looked at it casually and sighed in a low voice. “Your grandmother has not had an easy life these past few decades. Qingqing, it is not convenient for your father and me to visit her. You should go and visit her more often.”
