Red Bean Lives in the Republic of China - Chapter 29.1

Chapter 29.1
Mrs Yu heard that her niece was found, so she wanted to visit her immediately. She told her daughter to call a rickshaw to go to the Red Cross and went to change her clothes.
When the month and the daughter went to the Red Cross, they met Yu Hongdou’s uncle’s family waiting outside the room.
Since Yuqi needed to give her testimony, her family could not visit her for the time being.
Ever since Yuqi was rescued, Yu Hongdou’s aunt and uncle had come back to life. Although their eyes were still swollen, their faces looked brighter.
After a horrific storm, there was a ray of sunlight. Not only was the middle-aged couple beaming with happiness, but the usually awkward Yuyuan had become much more easygoing.
Yu Hongdou chatted with Yuyuan for a bit and took the chance to sneak a peek inside when the nurse and doctor entered the room. She could only see a bed through the bright white curtain.
‘Was Chen Baidie really taken away so quickly?’
He Yunqin seemed to have arrived at the Red Cross earlier, but she didn’t see him on her way in just now. She wasn’t sure if Chen Baidie had gone to another hospital temporarily or if He Yunqin personally took Chen Baidie away.
It was midnight, and Yuqi was still asleep, but Yuan Ruoli showed up at that time.
This was the first time Yu Hongdou saw Yuan Ruoli clearly. He looked to be around 35, with attractive features. Even though he was a businessman, he carried himself with grace. In front of Yu Hongdou’s uncle and aunt, he acted like a younger relative, speaking softly and showing respect.
Yuan Ruoli wasn’t at fault in this situation, but Yu Hongdou’s uncle and aunt were understandably upset since they almost lost their beloved daughter. They were somewhat angry with the man also. With Yuqi missing for several days, they worried about their reputation being tarnished. However, seeing that Yuan Ruoli still cared for Yuqi, they had no choice but to treat him politely.
Thinking about how Yuan Ruoli helped his ex-wife after Wang Meiping’s incident, the old couple felt a bit relieved. It showed that he was not a heartless person. The couple didn’t want to think about what would happen in the future. After all, they had just suffered a disaster. As long as Yuqi was safe and sound, everything would be fine.
In the middle of the night, Yuqi finally woke up. The police were eager to return to the International Settlement Police Department to report, so they hurried in to record her testimony.
Yuqi’s sobbing could not be concealed through the thin door, and Yu Hongdou’s uncle and aunt became more and more sad as they listened. After the police finally left, the whole family rushed in.
Yu Hongdou followed behind, holding the warm tonic soup that her mother had asked Mrs Zhou to deliver overnight.
In just one week, Yuqi became extremely thin, with wet and sticky hair sticking to her face as if she had just been fished out of a pond. Her face was yellow, without any trace of her former beauty. When the family met, they hugged each other and burst into tears, crying for more than half an hour.
Fortunately, Yuqi had been educated and often went out, so although she was still frightened after she calmed down a little, she was able to recount in bits and pieces what happened last Saturday when she was kidnapped.
She just said that she had just come out of the jewellery store and was waiting for a rickshaw on the roadside. The driver of the Lu family happened to pass by and asked her where she was going. When he heard that she was going back to the New Asia Tea House to attend a lecture, he said that he also had to go to pick up Lu Jingheng and could give her a ride.
Nanbao Foreign Company was her dad’s workplace, and Yuqi often interacted with the Lu family. She had seen the driver with Lu Jingheng a few times, so she thought he was trustworthy and mature. Moreover, she had seen that the Lu family seemed to rely on him a lot. She waited for a taxi for a while, but as it didn’t come, she hopped into the Lu family’s car without giving it much thought.
Unexpectedly, as soon as they hit a quiet road, the driver struck her hard on the neck, and she passed out.
When she opened her eyes, she found herself in a room with the windows shut tight. Her hands and feet bound, she was unable to move or scream, realising she had been deceived by the driver. From then on, every morning and evening, the driver would bring her some food and water. During this time, Yuqi pleaded with him to let her go multiple times, offering to negotiate any amount of money he wanted in exchange for her freedom.
The driver completely ignored her.
Yuqi had been trapped for several days, feeling dazed and unable to distinguish between day and night. Last night, the driver brought in another person. When he took off the sack, Yuqi was shocked to see that it was Chen Baidie.
The glamorous-looking star appeared to have gone through a lot, with blood on her forehead and body. However, upon closer inspection, she didn’t seem to be seriously hurt, and no one could tell where the large bloodstains on her clothes had come from.
Yu Hongdou filled a bowl of soup and set it on the little cabinet next to the bed. After hearing this, she recalled that Chen Baidie was the first one to be taken by Chen Jinsheng, but Wang Meiping was the first to die. The way the murderer killed her was by sealing her seven orifices with wooden nails while she was still alive. This method was not just brutal, but it would also lead to a significant loss of blood. If Chen Baidie had been locked up with Wang Meiping earlier, it’s possible that the bloodstains on her clothes were from Wang Meiping’s body.
Yu Hongdou and her mother stayed at the hospital until late at night, but her brother never showed up to pick them up. So her uncle sent them home.
Have a nice day!
