Chapter 36.1

A huge problem occurred in the Yu family, but Yu Hongdou, who knew nothing about it, slept soundly until seven o’clock the next morning. 

After waking up, she washed up and got ready to go to college. 

When she entered the living room, breakfast was on the dining table, but her mother and brother were nowhere to be seen.

She asked Mrs. Zhou about her mother and found out her mother had not yet gotten up.

Yu Hongdou was surprised. As far as she could remember, her mother had always gotten up before dawn to take care of things and had never slept in late.

‘Could it be that she isn’t feeling well?’ 

With that thought, she approached Mrs. Yu’s bedroom door and listened, but didn’t hear anything. 

She then asked Mrs. Zhou whether her mother was sick.

“No… She is not sick. She just didn’t sleep well last night,” Mrs. Zhou replied. 

With a confused mind, Yu Hongdou spaced around her mother’s room before heading back to eat breakfast. 

She sat down and picked up the porridge. Just as she took a sip, she noticed Mrs. Zhou sneaking a glance at her from across the room.

“Mrs. Zhou, why are you looking at me like that?” Feeling strange, Yu Houngdou asked.

Mrs. Zhou had seen everything that happened last night, and she was pretty upset. If Mrs. Yu hadn’t told her to keep quiet, she would have shared all the details about Director Bai’s behaviour with Yu Hongdou.

But Mrs.Yu was so angry that she couldn’t sleep at all, and she was still trying to catch up on some rest now. As a servant, she couldn’t step out of line without the mistress’s instructions, so she stayed silent.

“The eldest young master is waiting for the young lady downstairs,” when she saw the young woman had finished her breakfast, Mrs. Zhou hurriedly said. 

Yu Hongdou got ready and headed downstairs. Not only was her brother there, but so was He Yunqin.

The man was standing sideways on the steps, chatting with Yu Hongdou’s brother. The golden morning light lit up his face, making his features stand out more clearly than they had the night before.

In the past, she would have greeted this guy with open arms, but today, for some reason, she felt a little shy. “Brother.”

Then she took a quick look at the man and said, “Mr. He.”

He Yunqin turned around to face her.

Their eyes locked, and he cleared his throat, saying, “Miss Yu.”

Yu Hongdou quickly looked away, and she just gently asked her brother, “Why is Mr. He here?”

‘Don’t ask him, ask my brother instead.’

Upon hearing the young woman’s voice, He Yunqin felt a slight sting in his chest. It was like an ant bite. He couldn’t stay there any longer, so he just put out his cigarette, headed down the stairs, and waited downstairs.

Yu Chongyi told Hongdou, “Something happened at home last night, and Mr. He will take you to school today.”

Yu Hongdou was taken aback. While she didn’t mind He Yunqin giving her a ride, she still wondered what had happened while she was sleeping. “What happened?”

Yu Chongyi replied, looking a bit worn out. “I have some stuff to sort out at the police station, so I need to head back. It’s getting late. You should go to school with Mr. He first. When you get back, me and mom will tell you the details.”

The three of them left Tongfu Lane, and just as they reached the street, they heard the honk of a car.
