Red Bean Lives in the Republic of China - Chapter 37.2

Chapter 37.2
As soon as the car stopped, she opened the door without even looking at him. “I have a lot of classes today, both in the morning and afternoon, and I’ll be out of school around 4:30.”
Upon hearing that, He Yunqin’s heart was moved, and he didn’t start the car until she faded away.
However, before he could start the car, he heard his sister’s voice outside. He opened the car door and saw that it was Lao Yu who sent his sister and Duan Mingyi to school.
The eldest sister-in-law’s expression seemed to be a little calmer than usual. Before he noticed them, she turned to face the school gate. However, his sister was smiling and walked towards him slowly.
As soon as she was in front of him, she deliberately put on a stern face and said, “No wonder Second Brother went out without even having a good breakfast. It turns out that you were thinking about sending Senior Sister Yu to school. Ha, I have caught you. Second Brother, you still refuse to admit that you are pursuing Miss Yu? When are you going to bring Miss Yu to our house for dinner?”
She recalled what her mother said this morning. Her father wanted to pressure his brother to consider dating sooner, due to the scandal from a few months back. He figured it would prevent anyone from causing drama that could eventually disrupt the brotherly bond. Dad also mentioned that if we find the right person, it’d be best to decide by March.
At that time, when her brother heard ‘within three months’, he just laughed and said it was totally impossible. When it came to marriage, you needed to find someone you really liked, and rushing into an engagement was just not something you could even consider. Those were his words.
Then, out of the blue, when her mom brought up Senior Sister Yu, her brother was taken aback and went quiet for a bit. Later, when Dad asked about her, my brother didn’t shy away from the topic and shared a few details about Senior Sister Yu’s family situation.
‘Mom is super excited about this and took the chance to invite Senior Sister Yu over for dinner. Even though it didn’t get confirmed in the end since we were still unsure about Miss Yu’s feelings, it looked like my brother had come to a realisation later that night. I mean, how else could he have gone to pick her up so early in the morning?’
He Yunqin didn’t say yes or no; he just opened the car door and said, “Miss Yu mentioned that your first class is Chinese, so why are you dragging your feet? Go on in and attend class.”
He Zhujun smiled on purpose and said, “Alright, I’ll go listen to the class next to Senior Sister Yu.”
She hurried over to her car, took Duan Mingyi’s arm, and they walked together side by side.
Duan Mingyi kindly brushed aside a few strands of He Zhujun’s hair and softly asked, “What did you say to your second brother just now that made you look so cheerful?”
He Zhujun replied, “I didn’t say much, just teased my second brother about chasing after Senior Sister Yu and asked when he’d bring her home. I didn’t think my usually smooth-talking second brother would get embarrassed. He just gave me a few vague replies and left.”
Duan Mingyi spoke gently, “Your second brother has always been level-headed. There are so many beautiful women in Shanghai, and he often socialises. Even though he has feelings for Miss Yu now, who knows if he might meet someone even better later on? It’s not surprising he didn’t want to share that with the family.”
He Zhujun tilted his head, pondering for a moment. Just as she was about to respond, she noticed two people not far away: one was Qin Xuekai and the other was Senior Sister Gu Yun, a close friend of Senior Sister Yu.
Qin Xuekai brought a big bag of cakes to give to Gu Yun, but she quickly turned him down. “No, no, no, I can’t accept anything from you anymore. Senior, aren’t you just curious about Hongdou’s classes today? Her first class is Chinese, her second is a foreign language, and she also has agronomy.”
Qin Xuekai’s face flushed when his secret was revealed. He scratched his head, feeling embarrassed, and said, “It’s just a little gesture of thanks. I’ve caused you a lot of trouble before, so please don’t turn it down, Sister Gu.”
Gu Jun, holding a book close, replied calmly, “Senior Qin, I really appreciate your thoughtfulness, but unless Hongdou agrees, I can’t just accept things without permission.” After saying this, she took a few steps back and walked away in another direction.
Have a nice day!
