Yu Hongdou finished her classes for the day and finally stepped out of school. From a distance, she spotted the He family’s car. As she got closer, she noticed that only the driver was inside, and He Yunqin was nowhere to be seen.

The driver stepped out and gave a slight bow, explaining, “The Second Young Master had an urgent matter to attend to, so he sent me to take Miss Yu home.”

Yu Hongdou recognised this man; his name was Lao Yu. He was often seen picking up He Zhuyun and Duan Mingyi at the school gate. She remembered that he was the one who took her home when her pants had ripped last time.

Recalling that, she felt a bit more at ease, but since He Yunqin hadn’t mentioned anything to her beforehand, she still had some reservations about getting into the car.

Noticing Yu Hongdou’s cautious demeanour, Lao Yu smiled and said, “The Fourth Young Lady and the Eldest Young Lady didn’t have classes this afternoon and went home around noon. The Second Young Master just mentioned that something came up with Inspector Wang Peter, and he had to hurry over. He was worried about being late to pick up Miss Yu after class, so he asked me to come first. Once the Second Young Master is finished with his work, he’ll come by to discuss business with Miss Yu’s brother.”

Yu Hongdou was taken aback. “Something happened to Inspector Wang?”

It must be something serious for He Yunqin to rush over like that.

Old Yu had gotten the instructions from He Yunqin that if Yu Hongdou asked, just spill the beans. “Nobody picked up the phone at Inspector Wang’s place last night. Today, the young master checked out Inspector Wang’s apartment but found nothing. Later on, Inspector Wang called Aurora, and the young master found out that Inspector Wang had gone out to look into a case and hadn’t come back for a whole day and night. I heard something went down at the Keyu Theatre.”

‘Keyu Theatre? I heard the well-known actor Bai Fengfei performed there last night. How could something bad happen there?’

Since the driver worked for the He family, Yu Hongdou didn’t ask any more questions. She smiled at the driver and jumped into the car. After the car parked near her house, she genuinely thanked Lao Yu and made her way upstairs.

While she was still in the stairwell, she heard some light laughter coming from the house, as if there were guests around.

She quickly climbed the stairs and, when she opened the door, saw her mother chatting with a young man in a suit. Looking closer, she realised it was Qin Xuekai!

Qin Xuekai always had a way with words, and her mother clearly enjoyed his company. They were having a lively conversation. “So your mom lives in Chunyingli? That means our families are neighbours. If it weren’t for the messy divisions and the original Chunyingli being torn down, I would have run into your mom a lot more often.”

When she spotted Yu Hongdou, she waved and said, “Hongdou, is this your senior from school?”

Qin Xuekai seemed more reserved than usual. He stood up and gave a slight smile, saying, “Hongdou.”

Yu Hongdou was taken aback for a moment and closed the door. “Senior Qin?”

Qin Xuekai had been looking after Yu Hongdou’s matters all day. When he got home to see his parents, he didn’t mention anything about Director Bai. He first praised Yu Hongdou to the high heavens, then mentioned that more and more male students at school were interested in her. He was worried things might get complicated, so he planned to formally propose to Yu Hongdou.

Mr. and Mrs. Qin had known for a long time that their son liked this girl, and they also knew that their son was not the kind of person who acted on a whim. They believed that Miss Yu must have something special; otherwise, their son would not have been thinking about her for so long. After being pestered by their son for a while, they finally agreed to let the two parents meet on the weekend.

After Qin Xuekai convinced his family, he went directly to the Yu family to find Yu Hongdou’s mother and brother. Fearing that he would not be able to convince the Yu family, he prepared a plan in advance.

After finally waiting for Yu Hongdou to come back, he calmed himself down and was about to start a long speech, but at this moment someone unlocked the door, and there were sounds of conversation.
