Red Bean Lives in the Republic of China - Chapter 46

Chapter 46
Yu Hongdou walked in and shut the door behind her. She glanced up at the warm sunlight streaming into the room, and a sense of confusion washed over her. From outside, she could hear He Yunqin speaking to the servant, and after a while, He Yunqin turned the doorknob and entered the room.
Lost in thoughts, Yu Hongdou stood still against the door.
He Yunqin pushed against the door a couple of times and realised Yu Hongdou was blocking the door. He frowned slightly and said softly, “Hongdou, let me in.”
That snapped Yu Hongdou back to reality. It felt like she was intentionally holding the door shut to keep him out. Startled, she quickly stepped aside, letting him push the door open.
As he entered, their eyes locked.
Yu Hongdou recalled how he had been locked out just moments ago. She fought to maintain a serious expression, trying not to laugh. She stuttered, “I didn’t mean it earlier.”
He Yunqin gazed at her silently.
She couldn’t read the man’s emotions—whether he was pleased or upset.
Feeling a flutter of nerves under his gaze, her usual boldness returned. She turned and headed further into the room, saying, “I’m tired; I need to rest for a bit.”
He Yunqin lingered outside for a moment before stepping inside the room. Once in the room, he noticed that Yu Hongdou had taken off her sweater. She sat at the dressing table, combing her hair with a brush in hand.
The two people’s eyes met in the mirror once more.
Yu Hongdou stopped combing her hair without a word. She felt awkward about going to bed while it was still light outside. Glancing around, she spotted one of his books on the couch. She stood up, kicked off her slippers, sat down on the couch, curled her bare feet, and began to read the book.
He Yunqin was quiet for a moment, then he approached the couch and sat down. “What made you angry just now?” he asked while snatching the book from her hand.
Yu Hongdou quickly grabbed the book back. “Who said I was angry?”
He Yunqin’s gaze landed on the book she held, and said, “That’s my book.”
Yu Hongdou lifted her dark eyes and asked, “Am I not allowed to read your book?”
He Yunqin: “It’s in German, do you even understand it?”
Upon hearing that, Yu Hongdou looked down and realised it was indeed a book written in German. She was so annoyed with the man just now, that she hadn’t even noticed the title page.
Her ears turned red, and she raised her eyebrows, saying, “I’ll just skim through it. I’ll understand it eventually.”
He Yunqin: “How do you plan to figure it out?”
She felt his gaze slowly travel from her nose to her lips, and it made her heart race increase unexpectedly. “There are German professors at school. I can learn from them.”
“There’s someone who knows German right in front of you. Why not learn from him?”
A tiny glimmer appeared in Yu Hongdou’s eyes as she replied, “Because that person is annoying.”
“What makes him so annoying?” As he asked, the man slowly leaned toward the woman.
It felt like spring willows were softly brushing against her chest, making her body relax a bit. “No matter what, I hate you. I hate you!”
His breath brushed on her lips, as he muttered, “Everyone in the He family knows I studied at the Trace School.”
Just a few words, but they carried so much meaning.
Yu Hongdou’s heart raced as she looked into his dark eyes and straight nose. She had never been this close to him before, close enough to see the fine texture of his clear skin. “Why are you saying that?” she whispered.
He lowered his gaze and kissed her lips lightly. “Because you’re jealous.”
Hearing that, Yu Hongdou’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, and she instinctively closed her eyes. She felt as if a light feather had brushed the back of her neck, sending a pulse straight to her heart. For a moment, her body felt so soft that she could barely hold herself up, unsure of what to do with her hands. Eventually, she just lifted her arms and gently pressed them against his chest.
He tried to act calm, but he was just as inexperienced as she was. After a long, awkward moment, he finally stopped bumping into her front teeth and managed to ask for her sweet kiss. Luckily, she didn’t mind his skills at all and responded with a hint of recklessness in her shyness, kissing him innocently and blissfully.
His heart raced as he wrapped his arms around her waist and laid her down on the bright red mattress.
Yu Hongdou felt a bit scared, but when she met his unusually dark gaze, she slowly began to soften.
He Yunqin’s heart was pounding loudly. What was there to doubt? Even if their marriage was a bit forced, she definitely married him for love. Not only did she welcome his closeness, but she also had a naive yet strong possessiveness about his past.
He grabbed her wrists and lifted it above her head. Leaning down, he gazed at her, and whispered in her ear, “Hongdou.”
Yu Hongdou had been instructed by her mother before the wedding, so she had a clue that He Yunqin was hinting at wanting to be intimate with her. She felt so shy that she couldn’t utter a word and quickly turned her face away. As she did, a warm, bright blush spread across her cheeks, while her eyes were sparkling like stars.
Her entire face was stunningly beautiful, which was both a silent agreement and an invitation.
He Yunqin always knew how to take advantage of the moment. He leaned down and kissed her earlobe without hesitation, while his other hand moved to her waist.
Just then, someone knocked on the door. “Second Young Master, Second Young Madam, lunch is ready. The master and madam are inviting you to join them for dinner.”
Yu Hongdou quickly pushed him away and rolled to the side.
He Yunqin was momentarily stunned, and when he saw Yu Hongdou fleeing, he could only fall back onto the bed and angrily mutter, “I know.”
