Chapter 33.2 – Cub

Right now, Yao Anan’s phone suddenly rang, and she quickly picked it up and talked.

Su Yan thought it was Yao Anan’s master who was calling, but unexpectedly, Yao Anan quickly stood up and loudly spoke to the mobile phone. “Right now. Immediately?”

After Yao Anan ended the call, Su Yan immediately asked, “What happened?”

Yao Anan was really mad because someone called her from the parking lot and told her that another car had accidentally scratched her car.

Su Yan quickly got up from the stool and said, “I’ll go with you to check it out.”

“I should go because I know this place well,” Bai Xinglan said to Su Yan. “The three of us can’t go together; someone needs to stay behind and wait for my brother.”

Su Yan had to stay because she didn’t have any other options.

She sat by herself at the table after they left, and she played with her phone out of boredom and looked at the small building where Bai Xingfan went every now and then.

Fifteen minutes later, the woman wearing a green cheongsam came out of the small building. Su Yan had a feeling that she was going to look at someone or something else, so Su Yan quickly looked at her phone.

Afterwards, she never glanced in that direction again and continued to look at her phone with her head down.

After a while, someone came and sat on the chair in front of her. She thought it was Bai Xingfan, but when she looked up, she was surprised. It ended up being that pretty lady.

“I’m Zhang Ruotong.” The woman smiled at Su Yan and pointed to the black tray that she had just put on the table. “Mr. Bai got it for you, and I delivered it to you for him.”

There was a cup and a spoon on the tray.

Su Yan looked at the tray doubtfully and asked, “What is this?”

Zhang Ruotong replied, “Yangzhi nectar.”

Su Yan was wondering why someone would bring this to her. She pondered for a while and asked, “Where did he go?”

Zhang Ruotong: “He is busy.”

Su Yan didn’t like her expression and tone very much. ‘She is saying this as if she knew Bai Xingfan better than me’.

Zhang Ruotong carefully observed Su Yan’s face and asked, “Does he really have strong feelings for you?”

Su Yan said, “?”

“Me and Bai Xingfan have been in the same class since middle school. For over ten years, you have been the only woman who has gone with him to the banquet and the only woman who can help him remember what she likes.”

Su Yan felt awkward and didn’t know how to respond, especially because she wasn’t sure what the other person wanted to hear.

So she decided to stay silent and listen calmly.

Zhang Ruotong said more. “You look really pretty, but I never thought he would be interested in someone like you.” She looked at Su Yan carefully.

“He is a very strong man, you know. In my memory, he has always been someone who doesn’t like to be left behind, so I always thought he would prefer a woman who could keep up with him. But you’re completely different. You appear to be a delicate and nervous small white flower, and you don’t seem like the type of woman who can assist him.”

Su Yan didn’t show any emotion and responded with just two words: “You resemble a strong woman. But he doesn’t like you.”

Zhang Ruotong looked at Su Yan with a frown.

Su Yan calmly looked straight into Zhang Ruotong’s eyes. “It’s not that he doesn’t like you because of my appearance; it’s that he doesn’t like you even without me, so you don’t need to be so hostile to me, let alone say this to me.”

Zhang Ruotong was shocked for a while, and then she started to look embarrassed and apologetic. “I’m sorry, I couldn’t keep my emotions in check.”

Su Yan stopped being aggressive and said, “You can speak up; I’m here to listen. I promise to keep it confidential for you.”

Zhang Ruotong was surprised once more. She looked at Su Yan for a bit and then shook his head and laughed. “Sure enough, how can the person who can put her at the top of his heart be an ordinary woman?”

Su Yan: “I get it.”

Women understand women better, so she could understand that Zhang Ruotong’s words were harsh, but they were not meant to harm. She just wanted to express her unwillingness.

Zhang Ruotong smiled again with a hint of self-mockery, saying, “I can’t believe it; I’ve liked him for so long, but he never even noticed.” She let out a small sigh and continued, “We’ve been friends since we were twelve, but he still doesn’t know my preferences. I dislike wearing perfume, yet he has given it to me as a birthday present for three years straight.”

Hearing that, Su Yan couldn’t stop herself from asking, “Why do you like him so much?”

Zhang Ruotong: “I think he is tall and handsome; he is very rich; and he has a good family background, okay?”

Su Yan: ‘They can be strong reasons. But a lot of men have those qualities as well.’ She didn’t intend to speak her thoughts aloud but couldn’t help but say, “There are still many men like him.”

Zhang Ruotong smiled mischievously. “I’m just kidding you.”

Su Yan: “Then why do you like him so much?”

Zhang Ruotong looked serious. “Because he is very good, like a high mountain; although I can’t reach it, I yearn for it.”

Su Yan understood what Zhang Ruotong meant because she also admired and liked him.

Zhang Ruotong forced a smile. “Until today, I had been lying to myself and making myself feel better by thinking that he sent perfume for three years straight, not because he didn’t care about my birthday, but because he was too busy to think about what I liked. It’s common to forget what he gave last year, but after seeing you, I realised that it’s not that he doesn’t remember, but that he doesn’t want to remember. I’m just an ordinary friend to him, so there’s no need to make him waste his time.” She then looked at Su Yan with admiration and said, “He is really nice to you.”

Su Yan felt a bit uncomfortable and said, “The Yangzhi nectar is not that great.” Even though Bai Xingfan was nice to her, she didn’t want to admit it in front of Zhang Ruotong, as it would make her feel bad.

Zhang Ruotong looked slightly surprised. “You’re not being very honest, Miss Su.”

Su Yan didn’t say anything.

Zhang Ruotong didn’t say anything else. She just turned around and looked at the faraway mountain peak, stood up from the chair, walked into the group of people, and shouted, “Look at the mountain top. Mr. Bai has lit the sky lantern for Miss Su.
