Chapter 36.1 – South Wall

Even though she knew it was coming when Bai Xingfan said those words, Su Yan still panicked, like a bird suddenly trapped in someone’s hand.

She desired the comfort of holding his hand and adored how kind and considerate he was, but was concerned that her appearance and background may not be attractive enough for him.

She didn’t want to waste her emotions; she didn’t want to feel happiness and then lose it again. So, without realising it, she wanted to refuse it. But then she remembered Yao Anan’s words. “You didn’t even give it a chance; how can you know if it won’t work?”

Perhaps she could give it another try.

She couldn’t say the words of rejection because they got stuck in her throat.

She pursed her lips and hesitated for a long time, then looked at Bai Xingfan again and asked seriously. “Mr. Bai just wanted me to be your girlfriend for a while, but you can be my friend also.”

Bai Xingfan looked at her intently. “I really like you and want you to be your girlfriend for a while.”

‘For a while? Then he didn’t plan on being with me for a long time. Just like I thought…’ Su Yan felt sad; her eyes became dull, and when she looked down, Bai Xingfan’s voice reached her ears again. “So, I want to marry you and be with you forever.”

Su Yan felt extremely surprised and stared at him with a confused expression.

Bai Xingfan smiled at her with a sense of understanding. “Feelings are not something to be taken lightly; they can’t just come and go easily.”

Su Yan looked at Bai Xingfan with a confused expression. She felt overwhelmed and couldn’t speak.

Bai Xingfan repeated, “I told you a while ago that if I can marry Miss Su, I will have lots of luck, so don’t worry.”

Su Yan’s heart started beating fast again; her ability to think clearly completely disappeared; she couldn’t control her emotions anymore; and she suddenly freed herself from any limitations.

She looked down and took a deep breath before breathing out again. When she looked at him again, she had a clear expression on her face. She asked if she could make a wish now using a golden leaf.

Bai Xingfan was a bit surprised when she asked so suddenly, but he still said “yes” to her.

It was false to say that he was not disappointed, but Bai Xingfan did not break his promise. “Is this the only requirement?”

Su Yan asked honestly, “Isn’t a leaf only one wish?”

Bai Xingfan: “This is too simple; you can add another one.”

Su Yan felt shy to ask in person. “Can I tell you when I arrive home?”

Bai Xingfan smiled and said, “Alright.”

Su Yan made a shy smile and then tried to hide it by forcing her lips down. She turned her head towards the car window and tried to appear calm and unaffected.

Bai Xingfan looked at her for a moment, then casually said in a relaxed way, “Ms. Su’s earlobes are round and like red beads.”

Su Yan said, “…”

She felt angry and embarrassed and turned towards him, asking, “What are you trying to say?”

Bai Xingfan seemed innocent as he said, “I am just complimenting Miss Su on her full earlobes. When you first see her, she looks like a very lucky person.”

Su Yan expressed annoyance by rolling her eyes and saying, “I know you are making fun of me; don’t you think that I don’t understand?”

Bai Xingfan couldn’t control his laughter and then modestly denied it, saying, “I really don’t.”

Su Yan didn’t take his collection. He asked, “If my earlobes aren’t as good as red beads, why do you say they are?”

Bai Xingfan asked seriously, “What if that’s not the case? Are you saying that Miss Su is not confident?”

Su Yan said, “… “

Bai Xingfan looked a bit worried and confused and said, “If you say that directly, it might make Miss Su mad.”
