Chapter 37.1 – Dating

In the blink of an eye, it was Friday.

Bai Xingfan said he would come and pick up Su Yan at 8:00 PM.

Su Yan started getting ready for their date tonight at six o’clock in the evening because it was their first official date together.

After quickly eating a little bit, she went back to the room to wash herself. She then put oil on her hair, dried her hair, washed her body, and finally put lotion on her body.

After she finished using the bathroom, she started searching through the cabinet to decide what clothes to wear tonight.

First, she selected a comfortable and easy-to-wear outfit—a black slim short-sleeved top with a red flaring skirt. After wearing white pointed high heels, Su Yan stood with confidence in front of the tall mirror.

The lady in the mirror looked tall and slim; she had dark and thick hair. Even though her face was not covered with make-up, it was still very attractive.

She quickly decided to wear it tonight.

But right when she was about to do her makeup, her mom, Liu Xiang, opened the door to the room without warning. She looked at her daughter from head to toe with a curious expression and started asking questions like, “Where are you planning to go?”

Su Yan didn’t respond to the question. Instead, she quietly asked, “Why didn’t you knock on the door?”

“I came to see how you’re doing.” Liu Xiang sounded doubtful. “You ate two bites at dinner, so what are you planning to do?”

Su Yan expressed disappointment and said, “Didn’t I already tell you that I’m going to watch a movie with a friend?”

Liu Xiang wanted to know if the person was a man or a woman.

Su Yan placed her hands behind her back, lowered her gaze to her toes, and said, “Woman.”

Liu Xiang was upset and said, “Do you think your dad and I are dumb? If it’s really a woman, why are you so worried today?”

Su Yan: “You have already guessed, so why did you ask?”

This time, Liu Xiang asked directly, “Is that the person whose last name is Bai?”

Su Yan paused for a moment, but eventually shared the truth with her mother by simply saying, “Yes.”

Liu Xiang quickly looked worried and asked, “When did you and him agree to meet?”

Su Yan said that he would come to pick her up at eight o’clock.

Liu Xiang looked unhappy and asked, “Why so late?”

Su Yan said, “He is extremely busy.”

Liu Xiang was annoyed and said, “It’s already too late. Why don’t we choose a different day when he’s not busy? Let’s go out during the day instead. It’s too late to go out today.”

Su Yan was feeling nervous. “But I already made plans with him. It will be very rude if I cancel it now.”

Liu Xiang was worried and said, “You can’t meet him now because it’s too late in the day. It’s not safe for you to go out alone with a man.”

Su Yan said, “I’ll come back after watching the movie. It won’t be too late because movies only last for a maximum of two hours. I’ll be home before eleven o’clock.”

Liu Xiang seemed unsure and asked, “Are you sure?”

Su Yan: “I’ll be a puppy if I lie.”

Liu Xiang was firm and strong in expressing himself, saying, “If you don’t come back by eleven o’clock, your dad and I will call the police for help.”

Su Yan felt very lost and asked, “Why?”

Liu Xiang got mad again and asked, “Why not? What if he did something unnecessary?”

Su Yan couldn’t stop herself from defending Bai Xingfan. She basically said, “If you’re worried so much, can you let us live in his house? Otherwise, we would have already been harmed.”

Liu Xiang looked upset and asked, “Why would you say that? I’m your mother, and I would never harm you. I’m just concerned for your safety. How can you go out alone on a date at night as a young girl?”

‘This is too much.’

But the ideas and concepts of the two generations were very different, and she couldn’t make her mother understand that, so she could only ask, “Can I talk to you and my father on video every hour?”

Liu Xiang asks, “What would happen if you chose not to make video calls?”

Su Yan said, “Then you both should call the police and inform them that I have been taken by force.”

Liu Xiang pondered for a while and eventually gave up. “Okay, I trust the police more than I trust you.”

Su Yan: “?” She sighed and said, “Mom, can I wear makeup now?”

Liu Xiang didn’t give a definite answer, but she looked at the clothes her daughter was wearing and asked, “Is this all you wear?”

Su Yan: “Yes, what’s wrong?”

Liu Xiang was worried once more and said, “Why are you saying that? Just see how tight your clothes are.”

Su Yan: “But what I want is this special effect!”

“You’re talking a lot of nonsense.” Liu Xiang stopped saying meaningless things to her and instead opened the door. She called out to Su Jianan, telling him to come and see what outfit their daughter was going to wear to go out.

Su Yan: “?”

As soon as her mother’s voice fell, her father’s footsteps sounded in the corridor. Obviously, he had been waiting on the stairs for a long time.

In less than five seconds, her dad quickly came to where she was, looked at her from head to toe, and told her sternly, “Get different clothes. If not, you’re not allowed to leave.”

Su Yan was about to collapse and asked, “What are you both planning to do?”

Su Jianan: “You said that you are young; what are you wearing? Let it go; these are the kind of women who often hang out in nightclubs!”

Liu Xiang agreed with her husband. “That’s right! She doesn’t look like a young girl at all.”

Su Yan: “I’m twenty-four; I still can’t decide what to wear.”

Su Jianan’s attitude was firm. “You can wear whatever you want, but you can’t wear it today!”

Su Yan: “Why?”

Su Jianan and Liu Xiang said in unison, “It’s too late!”

Su Yan: “…”

She was completely defeated by her parents and sighed long. “Then you say, What suits me to wear?”

Liu Xiang: “It’s good to wear a loose top and jeans.”

Su Jianan: “You also changed your high heels to sneakers. If something really happens, you can run away.”

Su Yan was suddenly amused by her father’s words. “Hahaha.”

Su Jianan ignored her, stretched out his hand, and pushed his wife. “Go find her clothes, wait for her to change, and then call me; I’ll check.”

Liu Xiang: “Okay!”

Su Yan: “…” ‘You two are quite strict.’

Su Jianan gave his daughter a warning look and then left her bedroom. The moment he closed the door, he whispered, “This time you have to close everything.”

Su Yan froze in place, suddenly realising the good intentions of her parents, and her eyes became hot.
