Yan Yan - Chapter 42.2

Chapter 42.2
The door was unlocked, and there was a small gap in the middle. Just as Su Yan and Bai Xingfan walked to the door, the door was suddenly pushed open, and a woman in a lilac dress appeared in front of them.
Her temperament was gentle, her facial features were soft and mature, and she was dressed in a dignified atmosphere. At first glance, she was an elder.
Su Yan was a little confused.
Bai Xingfan frowned slightly. “What are you doing?”
The woman was a little embarrassed. “I, I originally wanted to pick you up, but seeing that the two of you have been talking, I didn’t go over for fear of disturbing you.” Before she finished speaking, she turned her eyes to Su Yan and looked at her carefully.
Su Yan was at a loss, but she still shouted in an orderly manner. “Hello, Auntie.”
The woman smiled lightly. “Hello.”
Su Yan pursed her lips nervously and embarrassedly, then cast an inquiring look at Bai Xingfan.
“My mother.”
Su Yan: “…”
She was very surprised, not only at the sudden appearance of his mother but also at the relationship between her mother and son.
Bai Xingfan’s attitude towards his mother was very indifferent, while his mother’s attitude towards him was somewhat flattering.
‘Weird mother-son relationship.’ She pondered for a while.
To put it differently, if Bai Xingfan hadn’t introduced her, Su Yan would have thought that the woman in front of her was a relative of his.
“Can we come in?” Bai Xingfan asked his mother politely, but Su Yan could still hear the alienation in his tone.
His mother, Jiang Lin, immediately turned sideways to make way. “Come in; grandparents have been waiting for a long time.”
After hearing this sentence, Su Yan’s nerves tensed up again; she was worried that his family didn’t like her or accept her, just like the Xie family.
But no matter how loud the drums in her heart were, she didn’t retreat. After all, she had already reached the door of others’ houses.
There were so many people sitting in the bright and spacious living room that Su Yan didn’t even know who to see first.
But in fact, there were not many elders, plus Jiang Lin; there were only four: Bai Xingfan’s grandparents and parents. The reason there seemed to be so many people watching in the living room was because the three teenagers who were peeking upstairs had come to the living room to watch the live broadcast.
In the centre of the couch sat two old people. Without introducing herself, she knew they were Bia Xingfan’s grandparents.
The old lady had a kind appearance and a slender figure, wearing a rose-red Tang suit. Although her head was full of white hair, her spirit and complexion were first-class. The old man was wearing a red sandalwood Tang suit. He had a bit of the majesty of the elderly in him.
It was clear at a glance who was the head of the family.
On the short sofa to the side sat a middle-aged man in a black suit. His appearance was more like that of an old lady—gentle and kind.
Su Yan guessed in her heart, ‘This should be Bai Xingfan’s father.’
Three generations gathered together, and in this comparison, she found that Bai Xingfan was the descendant of the old man who most resembled Mr. Bai, both in terms of appearance, figure, and demeanour.
It seemed that the rumours were true; Bai Xingfan was indeed the heir that Mr. Bai personally cultivated; otherwise, it would not be so similar.
Before they entered the living room, Bai Xingfan’s father stood up from the sofa and took a few steps to greet them.
He smiled kindly at Su Yan. “You are Yanyan, right?”
Su Yan nodded nervously. “Well, hello, uncle.”
Bai Ruming’s tone was gentle and kind. “You are fine too.”
After entering the living room, Bai Xingfan introduced his grandparents to Su Yan. “This is my grandma; this is my grandfather.”
Su Yan immediately said hello. “Hello, grandpa and grandma.”
The old lady, Bai, smiled kindly. “Hello.”
The old man Bai also showed an amiable smile to Su Yan. “Girl, sit down.”
“Yeah.” When Su Yan sat down, she bent her knees and stroked the hem of the cheongsam with her right hand from behind her to ensure that she would not crumple the cheongsam or appear indecent when she sat down.
The old lady, Bai, watched Su Yan’s movements with a smile on her face. After she was seated, she raised her eyes to look at the aunt who was standing beside her. “Serve the guests tea.”
Su Yan and Bai Xingfan sat together on the small couch facing the old man Bai and the old lady Bai, and the aunt poured tea into the tea cups placed in front of them in turn.
But Su Yan didn’t dare to drink for fear of embarrassing herself, even though she was so nervous that her mouth was dry. Moreover, the elders didn’t even touch the cups; how could she, an outsider and junior, dare to drink?
Who knew that Bai Xingfan actually picked up one of the teacups and handed it to her? “Drink some tea.”
Su Yan: ‘Really, you have no eyesight at all.’
She had the heart to beat this person to death, but she had to keep smiling and shake her head slightly. “No.”
Bai Xingfan frowned slightly. “Your mouth is dry.”
Su Yan: “…” ‘Help!’
“Yo, you have learned to take care of people.” It was Bai Xingfan’s father who spoke, with a surprised smile in his tone.
“Isn’t it? It’s rare.” Bai Xingfan’s grandmother, who spoke this time, looked at them with a smile in her eyes.
“Brother Bai, my mouth is dry too.” This time, it was Cheng Jiheng.
Ji Shubai: “Me too; I want to drink tea.”
Bai Xinglan: “And me!”
Su Yan was so embarrassed that her originally fair and translucent face instantly turned red.
The old man Bai pretended to be serious, raised his face, and waved at the position of the three teenagers. “Go, go, you three; don’t make trouble.”
The teenagers also knew that the old man was pretending, so they were not afraid, and they smiled more.
Bai Xingfan didn’t care. Holding up the teacup, he said to Su Yan, “Don’t worry about them; just drink when you’re thirsty.”
Su Yan had no choice but to take the teacup and take a few sips.
She had just put down the tea cup when she heard old lady Bai asking her, “Girl, how old are you this year?”
The old lady’s voice was very kind, and Su Yan immediately relaxed a lot. “I will be twenty-five soon.”
“Oh, you are two years younger than Xingfan.” Then the old lady Bai asked a few more questions, and Su Yan answered them one by one.
In fact, she had always been worried that Mrs. Bai would ask her about Xie Yu. After all, the wedding was so embarrassing, and the Bai family would have known it.
But to her good fortune and gratification, the old lady Bai didn’t ask her about her previous relationship but just asked about some household trivial matters.
After answering the old lady’s last question, Su Yan didn’t have time to take a sigh of relief and suddenly heard the question from the old man, Bai. “Girl, is your father’s name Su Jianan? The chairman of Anbang’s used car?”
Su Yan was startled and a little surprised. “How do you know?”
“Anbang Used Car is a leading company in the national auto industry. How could I not know it?” The old man, Bai, chuckled. “Your father is a very good boy, from the countryside; he starts from scratch, has no higher education, but is hard-working. He continued, “Your mother is also an admirable woman; she has never left your father for so many years, and without her support, your father would not have succeeded.”
Su Yan’s breathing stagnated, and her eyes suddenly warmed, not because of how nice the words of the old man Bai were, but because she clearly felt the respect of the old man for her and her parents.
In fact, before she came to Bai’s house, she had better be prepared to be ridiculed and looked down upon. After all, most wealthy families could not accept women with too big a class gap to enter the house, just like Xie’s family.
But now she understands that there is a difference between wealthy families. The Xie family was just arrogant, while the Bai family was extravagant.
She was really grateful for the respect the old man gave her. “Thank you for recognising my parents so much; they will be very happy if they know about it.”
The old man, Bai, didn’t say any more. After a while, Jiang Lin, who had been silent for a while, suddenly said, “Yanyan, you.”
“Let’s eat first.” Bai Xingfan interrupted his mother’s words before she could finish hers. “She is tired after answering all your questions.”
The air suddenly froze, and Su Yan felt embarrassed.
Looking at Jiang Lin again, she looked embarrassed.
Bai Ruming’s face sank instantly. Just as he was about to reprimand his son, he was interrupted by the old lady, Bai. “Our Xingfan now not only takes care of people but is also considerate of them.” The old lady smiled kindly. Cleverly resolved this embarrassment. “Yanysn has taught him well.”
Of course, Su Yan understood the old lady’s pride and immediately replied, “Why, how long have I known him? It was my aunt who taught him well.” After speaking, she looked at Bai Xingfan’s mother with a smile on her face. “Auntie has worked hard.”
Jiang Lin was relieved and smiled gratefully at Su Yan.
The old lady Bai’s eyes lit up when she looked at Su Yan; her expression was full of approval, and then she turned to look at her husband.
The old man, Bai, smiled and nodded.
After the crisis was resolved, Su Yan breathed a sigh of relief and quietly turned her head to look at her boyfriend, only to see Bai Xingfan’s expression was cold and indifferent, as if what happened just now had nothing to do with him.
‘It seems that this mother-son relationship is really not that bad.’ Su Yan sighed in her heart and looked at his father quietly again.
Bai Ruming was frowning, looking at his son with helplessness in his eyes.
Su Yan was also very helpless and couldn’t help but sighed in her heart: ‘It’s really hard to read scriptures in every family.’
In order to prevent Bai Xingfan from being embarrassed, she took the initiative to say, “Auntie, what did you want to ask?”
Jiang Lin smiled. “It’s nothing; I just want to ask if you are hungry.”
Su Yan was very sure that this was not what she wanted to ask, but she followed her words and said, “I’m really hungry.”
Jiang Lin: “Let’s have dinner then? Okay?” The last two words were addressed to Bai Xingfan.
Bai Xingfan didn’t look at his mother and said to Su Yan in a gentle tone, “Go to dinner?”
Su Yan: “Well.”
When the whole family walked to the restaurant together, Su Yan followed Bai Xingfan closely, deliberately slowing down the pace, and the two gradually fell behind everyone.
When no one was paying attention, Su Yan suddenly stood on tiptoe and whispered in Bai Xingfan’s ear, “I want to go to the toilet.”
In fact, she had long wanted to go but was embarrassed to say it.
Bai Xingfan immediately took her to the bathroom.
Before entering the door, Su Yan specially warned him. “You have to wait for me and don’t leave.”
Bai Xing couldn’t help laughing. “Okay.”
After being assured, Su Yan walked into the bathroom with confidence and closed the door.
However, at the moment when she closed the door, Bai Xingfan’s cell phone suddenly vibrated. He raised his right hand and saw that it was a call from his assistant.
He connected the call and held the phone to his ear. “What’s wrong?”
“Mr. Bai.” The assistant didn’t report the situation immediately but first asked, “Are you convenient to answer the phone now?” He deliberately added, “It’s about the Xie family.”
Bai Xingfan frowned instantly, raised his eyes, glanced at the closed door of the bathroom, and left the corridor silently. When he reached no one, he spoke to the phone again: “Continue talking.”
After Su Yan went to the toilet, she felt relaxed.
When she opened the bathroom door, she was stunned.
It wasn’t her boyfriend standing outside the door, but her boyfriend’s mother.
Jiang Lin didn’t hesitate and was straight to the point. “Miss Su, I want to talk to you alone.”
