Chapter 44.2 – Funeral

Dongfu, Longchang District, funeral home.

Xie Hehai died last night after resuscitation failed, and early this morning, his body was pulled down to the funeral home.

The auditorium where the corpse was placed was filled with Xie’s family members wearing burlap and filial piety.

Xie Yu was the only son of Xie Hehai, and he had to watch over his dad’s spirit and thank the visitors who came to express condolences for his dad. When his dad went away, he had to be in charge of the family.

The Xie family was prominent in Dongfu, so many guests came in to offer condolences. Therefore, Xie Yu was so busy that there was no time to grieve. And at nearly noon, the auditorium gradually calmed down.

After everyone left, Jiang Qi told Xie Yu to go and take a break because he looked very tired.

Xie Yu didn’t pay any attention to the woman who had been with him and didn’t even glance at her. He went to his father and knelt in front of him.

Seeing that Xie Yu was grieving so much, Jiang Qi looked at Xie Yu’s back with red eyes.

Everyone believed she was the future wife of Xie Yu, but she knew that she didn’t like her at all.

“XiaoJiang, you look tired. Why don’t you go eat dinner with Auntie?”Xie Yu’s mom, Shen Rong, spoke to Jiang with care.

Jiang Qi quickly changed her expression and said, “No, I will just stay here.”

Shen Rong felt happy that Jiang Qi was a good daughter-in-law. She gently asked Jiang Qi to leave Xie Yu with his father for a moment and have dinner with her, and they could bring some food for Xie Yu later.

Jiang Qi couldn’t say no this time, so she had to go to dinner with Shen Rong.

The rest of the Xie family went with Shen Rong, and only Xie Yu was left in the big mourning hall.

The see-through box had his dad’s body inside, but Xie Yu wasn’t sad anymore; he was just really tired, a tiredness coming from deep inside him.

When people are very tired, they might not feel happy or sad.

All of a sudden, he heard someone walking behind him with leather shoes on the shiny floor.

Xie Yu thought a friend or family member came to offer sympathy, so he stood up, but when he turned around, he was shocked and couldn’t move.

There stood Bai Xingfan, wearing a black suit with a black shirt and tie, showing clearly that he had come to offer sympathies.

Xie Yu’s eyebrows furrowed quickly, and he asked in a cold voice, “Why are you here?”

Bai Xingfan stayed calm as he spoke on behalf of his family to offer their condolences. Then he went to the incense table, picked up three incense sticks, and lit them on the candle flame. He followed the traditional greeting rules, bending his body three times in front of Xie Hehai’s body.

Xie Yu watched everything without showing any emotion.

Bai Xingfan put three incense sticks on the burner and looked worriedly at Xie Yu. He said, “Xie Yu, you need to grieve.”

Xie Yu laughed and said, “Should I also thank you for giving my dad a heart and letting him live another year?”

Bai Xingfan looked confused and surprised as he said, “I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Xie Yu was stunned. ‘Is he pretending? Still really don’t know?’

Xie Yu wasn’t sure if Bai Xingfan started the incident, but he always suspected him because of his voice and his connection to Yan Yan. He did not believe Bai Xingfan’s words because he was a well-known figure and came from a well-known, respected family.

Seeing Xie Yu’s facial expressions, Bai Xingfan said calmly, “Even though our fathers haven’t met many times, the Bai family should still be respectful to your family.”

With an impeccable answer, Xie Yu could not find any loopholes at all.

Bai Xingfan decided to leave because he didn’t want to bother the dead people. He nodded slightly and then left. When he turned around, his sad and concerned look had changed to a cold and cruel expression.

Xie Yu tightened his hands into fists and looked at his back with a cold, stern expression on his face.

When Bai Xingfan left the place, he saw Jiang Qi coming back quickly with food.

She didn’t go to the cafeteria to eat. Instead, she packed two lunches and went back to Xie Yu.

She stopped in surprise when she saw Bai Xingfan and just stared at him.

Bai Xingfan quickly looked at her but didn’t stop.

But as he passed by, he quickly and coolly said, “Be careful what you say.”

Jiang Qi’s face suddenly went blank, and she stood still like she was shocked by lightning.

Haoyuan Group owned most of her father’s company, and she had to listen to Bai Xingfan because of that.

“Jiang Qi”

Xie Yu was walking ahead of her, but she didn’t see you at all.

She quickly looked up when she heard him yell her name, and then felt very nervous when she saw Xie Yu looking at her.

Xie Yu looked angry and asked through clenched teeth, “What are you scared of?”

Jiang Qi froze, then shook her head suddenly: “I don’t; I don’t know him!”

Xie Yu smiled with a cold smile. “I didn’t say who it was at all.”
