Chapter 46.1 – Trapping

Throughout the process of discussing the wedding dress with the designer, Su Yan was very absent-minded and didn’t speak much. Because of that, both the designer and Su Yan had several awkward moments.

Additionally, she didn’t dare look at Bai Xingfan because she didn’t know how to face him.

If Xie Yu’s goal was to taint her bond with Bai Xingfan, he appeared to have succeeded in doing so.

She was unable to fully trust Bai Xingfan at that point and started to have continual doubts about him. She even began to consider many previously unconsidered aspects, such as how he was aware of her marriage. Was it from the friend group? However, she discovered during their dating that he wasn’t really someone who posted much on Moments because he was too preoccupied with his job to post about such uninteresting topics.

What’s more, they had not been in contact for nearly half a year at that time. Who would pay attention to the marriage news of a friend who had not been in contact for half a year?

‘Unless he has been watching me… Is it because of pure liking? Or for some other purpose?’

She never really thought about it before because she never doubted him. But once she started to doubt him, those doubts kept growing, and she couldn’t ignore them. It made her realise things she hadn’t noticed before.

As she realised more things, she became more and more suspicious of him.

It looked like all the little things were showing her that he probably didn’t tell her something important about the wedding.

But she was too scared to ask him what really happened, and she was too scared to talk to others to find out the truth. She was afraid that, if it turned out to be true, her whole life would change.

She couldn’t believe that the man she loved was so scary, and she couldn’t accept that he was the reason for her suffering.

She loves Bai Xingfan because he is kind and thoughtful, and he also takes care of her.

‘He loves me very much and takes care of me, so how could he want to harm me?’ No, he will not. He probably doesn’t want to.’

She had a hard time deciding whether to trust or doubt, so she kept changing her mind, and it made her feel very tired and worn out.

She forgot things, so the meeting with the designer didn’t last long.

On the way home, the sky was still dark, and it was still raining.

Su Yan was no longer excited and looking forward to something. She looked out the car window without speaking.

The rain came down hard and made a lot of noise on the car window. It formed a big sheet of water that covered the window and made it hard to see outside.

Su Yan’s eyes started to look unfocused, dull, and empty. She couldn’t stop thinking about whether the rain could get worse by tomorrow, giving her a reason to not get the certificate.

She was too scared to marry him now.

After feeling nervous for a while, Su Yan finally found the courage to ask, “If it rains tomorrow, can we go get the certificate another day?” To make it clear, she added, “I don’t want to go if it’s raining. Rainy days are not good.”

“Okay.” Bai Xingfan sounded very gentle, which was a big surprise for Su Yan.

She looked at him in surprise. She thought he would be mad, but he agreed with her without arguing.

Bai Xingfan was calm and gentle as usual. He said, “I will respect what you decide, but I’m worried that the older people will be unhappy about us not getting married.”

This was correct.

The date to get the certificate was already decided, and it couldn’t be casually changed. Otherwise, how could they tell it to older people?

Su Yan started to feel a little embarrassed and didn’t know what to do.

She loved him but wasn’t sure about him, so she didn’t want to trust him too quickly.

When she was feeling confused, Bai Xingfan told her that his family would support whatever decision she made, so she didn’t need to worry about them. “You have to convince your uncle and aunt.”

Su Yan felt surprised but also relieved. She said, “Don’t worry, I will talk to my parents and make things clear.”

“Um…”

Su Yan suddenly felt free, like a bird escaping from its cage.

Bai Xingfan looked at her quietly and then asked, “Are you sure you don’t want to get married?”

His eyes were very dark and deep, like a deep hole. Su Yan was feeling nervous and absentmindedly turned her head, saying unclearly, “No, no, yes, I just really don’t like rainy days.”

Bai Xingfan seemed to understand.

However, the less interested he seemed, the more scared Su Yan got, like a scared bird.

They didn’t talk, and it felt really uncomfortable in the car.

The driver drove the car into the underground parking lot at Golden Lanwan Community and parked it.

Before the car stopped, Su Yan opened the car door and was too scared to look at Bai Xingfan. She put her head down and said quickly, “I’m leaving. Bye.” Then she got out of the car and walked towards the elevator without turning back.

Bai Xingfan sat in the car and looked at her as she walked away. He tapped his finger on the armrest.

Once she was gone, he opened the partition between the front and back seats and told the driver in a stern voice to pick up Su Yan at 7:30 a.m. sharp the next morning.

He was not worried at all that she would not keep her promise.

She had no choice but to marry him, whether she liked it or not.
