The next day—early morning

The golden sunlight covered the tall buildings in the bustling city.

The inpatient building of the hospital was tall and grand.

The hospital room had blue curtains that made the sunlight less bright and turned it into a soft blue light.

Su Yan, who looked pale and tired, was still asleep in the hospital bed. Her breathing was shallow, and she seemed anxious.

Bai Xingfan sat next to the hospital bed while taking care of her wife without taking a rest.

There was still a lot of clear liquid left in the hanging bottle, and as time went by, the liquid dropped one drop at a time. When the bottle was almost empty, Bai Xingfan stood up and pressed the button on the top of the headboard of the bed.

After a few seconds, a nurse in a pink uniform came to Su Yan’s room, removed the needle from her arm, talked quietly to Bai Xingfan, and then left with an empty IV bag. 

Bai Xingfan pressed a cotton ball to stop the bleeding on Su Yan’s arm.

After some time, Su Yan’s eyes started to move and she slowly opened her eyes. 

“Cub.” Bai Xingfan quickly got up from the stool and leaned in with a worried look on his face. 

Su Yan quickly looked at him and then closed her eyes again.

She felt like she had slept a lot, but she was still very tired and feeling low on energy and motivation.

Although she felt she couldn’t lift her arms and legs because they felt really heavy, she felt empty inside her body—like something was missing.

She wanted to speak up but she felt scared to do so. 

“H-how is… Xie Yu? ” she asked with a hoarse voice while gripping the sheet tightly.

Hearing the first sentence she said after waking up was about Xie Yu, Bai Xingfan felt anxious. “He’s okay,” he said quickly.

Su Yan became quiet again.

After a while, she gathered her courage and looked at him. Her pale lips were shaking as she asked, “What about our…child?”

Bai Xingfan felt his throat tighten as he saw her eyes turn red. He didn’t know what to say when he was asked the question, and he felt very powerless for the first time.

He didn’t want to hurt her feelings, but he couldn’t do anything to make it better. “We,” he tried to sound confident, but his voice choked up and his eyes turned red. “We will have children again for sure.”

‘My c-child is…not here anymore.’ The final bit of hope also disappeared. Su Yan was overcome with extreme sadness very suddenly, and she suddenly fell apart and couldn’t stop crying. 

She recently found out about the baby’s existence, and now she or he was no longer in this world.

Tears started to roll down from Bai Xingfan’s eyes. 

He cried too.

That was also his kid, so why wouldn’t he feel upset or sad?

He felt very sorry and guilty. ‘I should have listened to her. I should have taken her home early, so she would not have had a breakdown and lost our baby.’

Bai Xingfan also knew that Su Yan would never forgive him, but he couldn’t stop apologising. “I’m really sorry, little one. I’m really sorry.” 

However, the words “I’m sorry” were like the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Su Yan got angry and suddenly started yelling at her husband loudly while grabbing his collar. “Please, can you let me go? I-I don’t want to be around someone…like you who is a lunatic!” She choked while saying, “You took the life of my kid…I really hate you. I really hate you!”

Bai Xingfan was quiet and seemed upset.

He was really scared because the worst thing he was afraid of had happened.

She wanted to leave him.

As soon as he found out she had lost the baby, he knew she wouldn’t forgive him. But he didn’t want to allow her to leave.

He locked her in a birdcage, then locked himself in too. The key was hidden in his heart.

If she wanted to leave, she had to take out the key by cutting open his heart.

He loved her very much, and he would never let her go unless he stopped loving her deeply.

However, Su Yan was really mad at him, she just wanted to be far away from him, and she didn’t want anything to do with him in her life.

She was crying and shaking. “Please…can you set me free? I’m begging you to let me go.

Bai Xingfan shut his eyes and took a big breath. When he opened his eyes, he looked very relaxed and said, “We will definitely have kids again.”

He would not allow her to leave.
