After Su Yan signed the divorce agreement, she moved out of the mansion that Bai Xingfan gave her.

In fact, Bai Xingfan almost gave her most of the property in his name, including the equity of her father’s company.

When Su Yan first saw the divorce agreement, she objected because she didn’t want to accept his generosity.

Bai Xingfan, however, merely used one statement to address her concerns. He controlled her, saying, “It will take about a week or two to redraw the divorce agreement; can you wait until then?”

Su Yan was afraid that Bai Xingfan would change his mind and lock her again, so she agreed to accept what was in the divorce agreement.

Bai Xingfan anticipated that result, but he said, “You think about it because I’m very likely to regret it.“ 

He was being honest with her, not threatening her.

Divorcing Su Yan was the most unwilling thing Bai Xingfan had ever done in his life.

Therefore, if his heart changed, she would never have a chance to get free. Su Yan knew it.

The birdcage had been opened, and freedom was so close at hand that she could not stay still in the cage and then watch the cell door close again. So reluctantly, she agreed to the property division and quickly signed her name on the divorce agreement.

But she didn’t want to live in the mansion. She felt the mansion was a golden birdcage, so she was not willing to stay there. Therefore, she moved into the house her parents bought her before her marriage.

That decoration of the house was completed in April, and now more than half a year has passed, and she didn’t have any problem moving into it.

Living alone was a little lonely, but compared to the opulent rose manor, Su Yan felt this place was much more comfortable.

This was her own home, and she felt she was no longer a nightingale locked up in a golden cage; rather, she was a free-spirited individual who could do anything she wanted.

Her spirit was less stiff once she flew out of the bird cage, and she eventually agreed to see a doctor.

She knew her mental state was not good after the miscarriage.

She harboured a deep affection for that baby and even resented all those who were related to the rainstorm, including Xie Yu.

She could tolerate Xie Yu using herself to take revenge on Bai Xingfan because it was true that they owed him, but she couldn’t tolerate Xie Yu not letting go of their child.

What did her child do wrong?

She used to think she owned Xie Yu, but after that incident, she only hated him.

For the rest of her life, she didn’t want to see Xie Yu again.

It’s possible that Xie Yu knew she would never be able to forgive him, which was why he hadn’t contacted her since that day.

She was more angry with herself, though; she felt guilty for leaving with Xie Yu that day and blamed herself every day. ‘Why did I trust him? If I haven’t gone with him, my baby is still here.’ 

She was unable to overcome the pain induced by the miscarriage, and the only person who could help her was a psychiatrist.

She must take antidepressant medications on time each day and engage in psychiatric consultations twice a week.

For a few weeks, her depressive symptoms went down slightly, as did her severe insomnia.

But she never told her parents about her divorce, worried that they would not be able to handle it. After all, her marriage with Bai Xingfan only lasted for half a year—in the mind of the older generation, divorce after just half a year of marriage was pure bullshit.

She originally planned to wait for the cooling-off period, and after she officially divorced Bai Xingfan, she would find an opportunity to inform her parents about her divorce. But fate had another idea: before the cooling-off period was over, bad news came from her home. Her grandmother was critically ill and was hospitalised.

Su Yan’s first reaction was surprise.

Since the old lady moved to her uncle’s house, she rarely saw her. The old lady didn’t like Su Yan, and Su Yan didn’t like her grandmother. Therefore, no one wanted to see who they didn’t like.

The last time she saw the old lady was during the Mid-Autumn Festival. She and Bai Xingfan had not yet reached the point where they had to divorce, so the two of them went there together.

At that time, the old lady’s mental state was still quite good, and she didn’t hesitate to say strange words to embarrass Su Yan in front of others. If it weren’t for Bai Xingfan’s high emotional intelligence, Su Yan wouldn’t know how to handle the situation. Bai Xingfan could subtly resolve the embarrassment every time, and he could even refute the old lady’s nasty words on the spot, 80% of the time.

Unexpectedly, it was only two months later that she became seriously ill.
