She couldn’t drive, so she got a taxi in the middle of the night. 

When she arrived at the hospital, it was after midnight. The rest of the family was already there in front of the intensive care unit. It was chaotic there because her mom and dad were arguing with her uncle and aunt. Fighting in front of the ICU door would disturb other patients, so Su Zhan was trying to stop them from arguing.

Su Yan didn’t know why her uncle Su Jianye and aunt Chen Baihui were arguing, but they stopped it as soon as she arrived and looked at her with suspicion and calculation.

Upon receiving their strange look, Su Yan felt a bit scared. She felt like they saw her as an easy target, and they would use their anger on her.

‘It is not my fault that the old man is very sick.’ However, ignoring the couple, Su Yan went straight to her mother and asked, “How is grandma?”

Liu Xiang felt worried and said, “Things don’t look good.”

Su Yan asked, “What did the doctor say?”

Liu Xiang didn’t give a response; she just shook her head.

‘Then her condition seems not good. Even the doctors can’t say anything.’ Su Yan pressed her lips together and looked at her dad with concern.

Liu Xiang also glanced worriedly at her husband.

Su Jianan’s eyes were red, and he looked eagerly at the door of the ICU. It seemed that he was holding back; he was choking. 

Su Yan couldn’t do anything to make her father feel better; she could only sigh quietly.

It seemed Su Zhan also did the same because Su Yan heard her brother’s helpless sigh.

As the family fight stopped, the surrounding area became silent. 

It was then that Chen Baihui noticed something, quickly raised her eyebrows, and asked, while looking at Su Yan, “Why did you come here alone?”

Su Yan’s uncle, Su Jianye, also strangely looked at her and asked, “Why didn’t your husband come to the hospital to visit your grandmother?”

Su Yan expected this situation before, and she already made an excuse in her mind. But before she could reply, her father scolded them. “Don’t think I don’t know what the two of you are thinking! Su Yan, don’t pay attention to them.”

Su Yan was surprised because she had never seen her father be so mean to her uncle and aunt before.

Her mother, Liu Xiang, also looked at the couple with an angry expression and said, “It’s our responsibility to take care of the old lady, so why should the younger people get involved?”

Su Jianye still didn’t want to back off. “She has a rich and powerful husband, and shouldn’t she show filial piety to the old lady?”

Su Yan finally understood why they were so worried about whether Bai Xingfan would come or not. She felt very angry and replied coldly, “He is very busy and on a business trip.”

Su Jianye: “What job is more important than the old lady? I just count on him to pay for it. If he doesn’t come, who will help the old lady transfer to a high-level hospital?”

Chen Baihui also said, “That’s right, you’ve even caught a golden tortoise-in-law, but at the critical moment, it’s useless!”

Su Yan looked very mad, and so did her father, Su Jianan. He said, “That’s our mom, not Xingfan’s mom.” He couldn’t help but curse again in front of Su Yan’s shocked eyes. He said, “Su Jianye, you are a tyrant. You heartless, white-eyed wolf! You killed the old lady.”

Chen Baihui stared back and said, “What do you mean, brother? You didn’t serve the old lady, so now you should pay for her.”

Su Zhan had enough. “You stop lying! Our family gives you 30,000 yuan a month just to let you take good care of Grandma, but what happened? Grandma has been at your home for more than a year, and she lost a dozen pounds. It seemed all the money we gave for Grandma was swallowed by you. If it wasn’t because you couldn’t bear to spend money to bring Grandma to the hospital for a medical examination, how could Grandma have a heart attack suddenly?” he asked angrily.

Su Jianye was nervous, but he was still trying to argue. “It is a surprise heart attack, so how could we have known?”

Chen Baihui: “Yes. Don’t blame us.”

Su Zhan: “Oh, really? The doctor even said if Grandma had regular check-ups, she wouldn’t have faced such a situation. When she was living at our house, my mother took her to the hospital for regular check-ups, so why couldn’t you do that?” He pointed at them and shouted again, “You even took the money from us for grandma’s doctor’s appointment.”

Hearing those words, Su Yan was very surprised and looked at her mother, hoping for an answer.

But her mom was also mad, and she told her uncle and aunt that they would handle family issues within the family. “Do not try to use my daughter and son-in-law.”

Her father also said, “You don’t have to worry about treating my mother, but you can’t reach out to my daughter’s house; otherwise, don’t blame me for being rude to you!”

Su Zhan agreed aggressively. “That’s right, you two should stop hitting my sister and my brother-in-law!”

Facing the support of her family, Su Yan’s nose suddenly became sour. She felt that she was very sorry for them.

They did everything possible to maintain her family and happiness, but she turned her life into a piece of chicken feathers.

Su Jianye and Chen Baihui immediately sighed in relief when they heard that they didn’t need to contribute money for the old woman, but their mouths were still unrelenting.

Chen Baihui glanced at Su Yan and said yin and yang angrily, “Money is a trivial matter. The key is filial piety. The old woman has already entered the ICU, but he is not here. Sure enough, she is not his own grandmother, so it is not a surprise.”

Su Yan had a headache with this couple. “Why didn’t Su Qian come? Isn’t she grandmother’s biological grandchild?”

Hearing Su Yan’s question, Chen Baihui was startled and immediately defended her daughter. “Our Qianqian has to go to work tomorrow! Do you think she sits at home every day just like you and does nothing? She is a civil servant!”

Su Zhan snorted coldly. “Hey, those who get a few thousand yuan a month know that they have to go to work tomorrow. Otherwise, who will give them money? My brother-in-law earns more than ten million a month, so my sister can stay at home doing nothing.”

Chen Baihui: “…”
