Chapter 55.3

Visitors had a specific time to visit patients at the ICU, but as the family was worried that something would happen to the old lady, they all stayed there.

After waiting outside the intensive care unit for more than an hour, Su Jianan sighed and told his wife, “Xiaoxiang, go home with the two children and rest first.”

He looked very tired, and his voice was weak.

Liu Xiang felt bad for her husband and asked him to go home and rest, even though she knew he wouldn’t listen. 

Su Yan also said, “Dad, let’s go home. We’ll come to see Grandma this afternoon.”

Su Zhan said, “Yes, grandma will be okay; let’s go home together.”

Chen Baihui and Su Jianye really wanted to go home for a while, but they were too scared to talk about it. When the chance came, they quickly agreed. “Yes, elder brother, what my elder sister-in-law said is true. There’s no point in staying here. If something happens, the doctor will call us.”

Su Jianan waved his hand, saying, “You all go home; I can stay by myself.”

Hearing that, Su Jianye asked cautiously, “So, can we go back?”

Chen Baihui also added, “Qianqian is alone at home, and we are worried about her.”

Su Jianan just said, “Go, go.”

Su Jianye and Chen Baihjson left quickly, as soon as Su Jianan said so.

Seeing how the couple was running away, Liu Xiang turned around and rolled her eyes angrily. “They are like greedy wolves,” she whispered.

Su Jianan sighed and said with a tired voice, “You three also go home. I’ll call you if there is something.”

Liu Xiang didn’t want to leave her husband alone, but she didn’t want her children to stay at the hospital either. “I’ll take the kids home first, and I’ll bring you food later. Take it easy, sit down, and relax for a bit,” she said.

Su Jianan agrees by nodding his head. “Okay.”

Su Yan and Su Zhan went home with their mother. Liu Xiang trusted her daughter and believed her very much, so she believed that her son-in-law was on a business trip.

After Liu Xiang got home, she went to the kitchen, and Su Yan and Su Zhan went upstairs to their rooms.

Nothing in her room had changed, so she felt a bit relieved to see the familiar things. She removed her coat, lay down on the bed, and closed her tired eyes.

‘It’s not strange that the grandson-in-law couldn’t visit the old lady because of his busy schedule. I can deceive them a couple of times, but the old lady’s situation is not good, and something bad could have happened to her. At that time, I can’t make any excuses.’ Su Yan rolled on her bed with an aching head. ‘At that time, Bai Xingfan has to come, no matter what. It’s better to talk with him.’

Therefore, she really didn’t know how to talk to Bai Xingfan, but she had to do it because she didn’t dare to reveal her divorce to her parents.

Su Yan started feeling very worried again. She forgot to take her medicine tonight, and her bad mood didn’t help her. She had insomnia, and no matter how hard she tried to sleep, she couldn’t do that. She felt more and more tired as time passed.

She didn’t know how much time passed, but when she heard someone entering the room, she sat on the bed. Upon seeing her mother’s panicked face, Su Yan had a scary feeling and quickly got out of bed. “What’s happening?”

Liu Xiang sounded worried and said, “Your dad called. Your grandma’s situation is very bad, and we need to go to the hospital now.” Then she quickly went towards the door and said, “Quickly change your clothes. I will call your brother.”

Su Yan was very shocked, and it took her a few seconds to understand what her mother had just said. ‘Grandma is very sick and may not be with us for much longer.’

Even though she didn’t care for the old lady, life and death would always affect people’s minds.

‘I needed to call Bai Xingfan.’ Su Yan took a big breath and tried to stay calm. She picked up her phone and opened her address book. After looking at the phone number on the screen for a while, she finally felt brave enough to push the button to make the call with shaky hands.

‘Would he be angry? But now I need to ask for his help.’

Su Yan’s mind became a mess, but she had to bite the bullet and hold the phone to her ear.

But the moment she heard the ringing tone, she realised Bai Xingfan should be resting because it was still night—she suddenly had a reason to hang up with peace of mind.

But when she was about to press the hang-up button, she heard his voice from the other side of the phone.

“What’s the matter?” His voice was low, revealing undisguised exhaustion, but with concern.

Su Yan took a breath and blurted out, “Why haven’t you slept yet?” She was extremely surprised.

Bai Xingfan: “I just finished the meeting.”

‘It turned out to be so. He is always so busy.’ She felt embarrassed to disturb him.

What was more, she didn’t have the right to ask him to express filial piety for her grandmother now, and she didn’t know how to ask him to play a show with her.

After pondering for a few seconds, she said hesitantly, “My grandma is critically ill, I guess...”

Before she could finish speaking, Bai Xingfan’s words came: “Which hospital? I’ll go there now.”

Su Yan didn’t expect that he would agree so quickly, so she couldn’t help sighing. “People’s Hospital.” After a pause, she whispered, “Thank you.”

Bai Xingfan asked, “Why do you want to thank me?”

Su Yan understood what he meant and sighed helplessly. “We have...”

Bai Xingfan interrupted her beyond doubt. “We haven’t divorced yet; we are still husband and wife.”
