The day after the funeral, Su Yan and Bai Xingfan went to the Civil Affairs Bureau and officially got divorced. 

When Su Yan got the divorce certificate, she felt a sense of relief.

He finally allowed her to leave.

The tension in her mind went away, and she felt normal again. Now she could focus on writing screenplays once more with a clear mind.

In July, she joined a literary romance project and started writing a movie script for the first time.

Because she didn’t have much experience with creating in this area, she looked up a lot of information before starting and asked for advice from experienced film screenwriters. After she felt more sure of herself, she was brave enough to begin writing.

After finishing the first version, she sent it to the director, but he didn’t like it and asked her to change it. Mainly about the male lead.

Su Yan didn’t complain about the director. She knew the director was expecting high standards from the main characters in this romance story, which was aimed especially at women. 

This movie was based on a short love storybook called “Flowering Orioles.” It was a nice romantic story, and the story was well-written but not very popular. 

It was about a woman who was a bar singer, lived in a poor area, and a rich guy with a snobby family. The different family backgrounds created both of them trouble. 

They met on a rainy day at the beginning of winter. The female lead, Liu Ying, was wearing a dark green jacket in a rainy alley. She went to a little store and bought a pack of Marlboro cigarettes.

A black car drove by and splashed water on Liu Ying’s coat. She was about to get mad when the car stopped and the driver got out with an umbrella. 

He apologised for the accident on behalf of their boss. And then the driver gave the umbrella to Liu Ying.

Liu Ying looked at the car logo and started thinking. She stopped herself from saying anything mean and said, “I can’t take this. Anyway, my coat is expensive, so you have to be compassionate.”

The driver: “Then what do you want?”

Liu Ying said, “Don’t worry, I just want to borrow your car to get back home. I live far away.” She crossed her arms, looked up at the sky, and said, “The rain is getting stronger, so can you give me a lift?”

The driver couldn’t decide on his own, so he went back and asked the owner for help. After the owner gave permission, the driver told Liu Ying to get in the car.

This was when Liu Ying and the young master met for the first time.

Liu Ying told the truth. She was wearing LV’s dark green coat. From the time she was eighteen until she was twenty-three, she saved money from working for five years to buy it.

She was the eldest daughter of a poor family. She had two little brothers following her. Her parents liked boys more than girls, so they squeezed her hard to let her make money for them. For them, she was just a money-making machine.

Finally, she became a wandering singer because there were no other choices.

Poor people lived a difficult life, and so did Liu Ying. She just wanted money and nothing else. So when she was the young master in the car, she had an idea.

Suddenly she met a wealthy young master, so she tried hard to make him like her in every way. 

The young master, who lived like a monk, couldn’t ignore the temptation and finally got tangled in Liu Ying’s love web. 

The young master fell for the girl hard, and unexpectedly, Liu Ying also started to love him.

He wanted to marry Liu Ying, but Liu Ying was much more serious than him. But she knew that she didn’t fit in his society, so she just focused on making money instead.

Therefore, she found the young master’s mother and asked her for a lot of money to leave his son. She promised to break off with the young master as soon as she got money. 

The mother knew her son well and knew she couldn’t make him stop seeing the bar singer, so she agreed to the deal Liu Ying brought up. 

Liu Ying, was a person with one word, so she broke up with the young master as soon as she got the money and planned to take the money and leave.

The young master was heartbroken, and he immediately went to see his mother and begged her to let him marry the girl. 

The mother was very mad and told her son the truth to make him stop seeing the singer.

The young master, who was very paranoid, really cared about Liu Ying, and he didn’t want to let her leave him.

At the end of the story, he went to Liu Ying’s house on a rainy night wearing a suit and leather shoes and used a sharp dagger to slit Liu Ying’s throat.

Blood splattered on his handsome face, and he couldn’t do anything other than look at Liu Ying, who died that night. 

There was a bright flash of light outside the window, along with thunder and lightning. Finally, he raised the dagger and cut his throat.
