Chapter 60.1
Su Yan got up as the alarm clock rang at 6.30 a.m. When she remembered where they were supposed to go for filming today, she felt reluctant.
Today’s scenes were all outdoor shootings, especially the scene of climbing the mountain. As the screenwriter, she should have gone there even though she had nothing to do with the shoot because she might need to change the screenplay at that point.
Moreover, she was a member of the director’s team so the director might need her. Screenwriters have extremely high fundamental requirements as well: they must be available around the clock.
When the script was finalised, the director gave Su Yan a vacation before the filming started. She also mentioned to Su Yan that she expected her presence during filming.
Su Yan knew Director Sun was afraid she wouldn’t be able to withstand hardship and would behave recklessly with Bai Xingfan’s support, but she wasn’t that kind of person.
Su Yan promised herself not to rely on others and maintained professionalism throughout her career life when she entered the industry first.
She knew she couldn’t rely on Bai Xingfan for the rest of her life. He would be able to support her temporarily, but she would need to establish herself in the field as soon as possible.
Therefore, when she started to work with Director Sun, she said seriously, “Don’t worry, I will never let you down. As long as I join the group, everything will be based on the interests of the crew.”
Only then did Director Sun dare to cooperate with her with confidence.
Su Yan double-checked her backpack filled with everyday necessary items she had packed yesterday because she knew they might not be able to make it back to the hotel tonight.
Two scenes were scheduled for filming today: the first was a romantic moment between Liu Ying and the young master, and the second one was the young master becoming crazy upon discovering that Liu Ying had been sexually assaulted by a gangster in her hometown.
The director changed his mind to complete those two scenes today due to the poor weather in the area, even though they were originally scheduled to be filmed over two days. The South Island issued a warning for both rain and a strong snowstorm.
Winter snowfall in southern cities was not common, much less a significant blizzard. One might say that it was an uncommon sight, occurring only once every 100 years, but it seemed the luck of the crew was not very good this time.
Because of that, Director Sun called an emergency screenplay meeting last night after notifying everyone via text message of the Blizzard red alert. The two-day shooting period was cut down to one day by a unanimous decision among the members of the directing team.
They planned to go up the mountain at 8:00 in the morning and wrap up the filming no later than 8:00 pm.
They also prepared an emergency plan, just in case: keep close, never take chances, and life safety would come first if the blizzard started.
The mountain they would be climbing today was about forty minutes drive from the South Island’s centre.
Before 8:00 in the morning, Director Sun asked every member to meet at the base of Guming Mountain. The members who had gotten persimmons could drive their own vehicles, and those who didn’t have transport facilities were supported to gather in front of the main gate of the community where the filming took place yesterday. The crew rented a bus to take care of it.
Su Yan didn’t have her own vehicle, so she could only go by bus. The person in charge of the logistics team asked her if she needed to arrange a separate vehicle to send her there, but she wanted to prove to Director Sun that she was a good screenwriter who was not hypocritical and could bear hardships and stand hard work. So he decisively refused that arrangement.
The bus would leave at 7.20 a.m., and she had to arrive there before that time.
So before seven o’clock, Su Yan went out with her bag. As soon as she walked out of the room, the first thing she saw was the closed door on the opposite side.
Thinking about Bai Xingfan, who was in that room, she had a headache.
Bai Xingfan was the last person she wanted to see on the set. First and foremost, she was concerned that Director Sun might see her as an arrogant woman relying on Bai Xingfan. Additionally, they had already divorced.
Su Yan moved very carefully once the door closed out of concern that she would wake up the people who lived across from her. She even went very carefully in the direction of the lift until it closed, at which point she exhaled deeply.
But she was taken aback as soon as she entered the hotel’s first-floor lobby.
In the middle of the hallway was a group of black leather couches. Bai Xingfan was seated on the shorter sofa that faced the lift, and a cup of coffee was resting on the coffee table in front of him.
He was dressed for the day in a dark grey mountaineering suit, matching hiking trousers in the colour, and black hiking boots.
It didn’t look like work attire but casual clothing.
Su Yan was completely stunned.
Have a nice day!
