Yan Yan - Chapter 61.1
Chapter 61.1
Liu Xiang and Su Jianan were eating breakfast and watching the morning news together on the living room sofa.
The female anchor reported. “At around 4:30 pm on December 30, there was a sudden heavy snowstorm in some cities in the south, and Nandao City. The areas are…”
“Yanyan seems to be in the South Island!” Liu Xiang exclaimed as she held the fried bun and the chopsticks in midair as she received the news.
“When did she go?” Su Jianan asked. He was frightened to death by hearing his wife’s words.
Liu Xiang: “She left the day before yesterday!”
“Why didn’t I know?” Su Jianan exclaimed, feeling alarmed and surprised. “I thought she was at Dongfu.”
“How much do you know? You thought she was still in elementary school?”
Liu Xiang hastily snatched the cellphone from the sofa table and called his daughter.
Sorry, the number you dialled is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.
“I can’t get through her phone!” Liu Xiang was very scared.
“Don’t worry, I’ll call Xingfan; maybe they are together,” said Su Jianan, reaching for his phone as well.
Sorry, the number you dialled is temporarily unavailable; please try again later.
The snowstorm did not stop overnight, and the snow on Qinglin Mountain had already packed with snow.
There was a tourist rest area that had just been completed in the undeveloped back mountain. All the staff of the “Flowering Orioles” crew had been stranded in this house with four walls for a whole night.
They had to abruptly stop work yesterday afternoon when they noticed that the snow was falling harder and harder. But the snow was falling quicker than they could halt their work. Their feet were completely covered in snow by the time they packed everything.
The artificial mountain road paved with bluestone slabs was covered with snow, and it was impossible to see it at all.
Travelling down the mountain in the snow was a very risky activity, and a little negligence could result in deaths.
To guarantee everyone’s safety, the director’s them decided that instead of making plans right now, they would find a location in the mountains where they could temporarily seek refuge from the snow and wait for it to end.
So the crowd began to walk in the snow in the mountains.
The snow started to fall more quickly, and the wind started to blow once again. A substantial layer of white gauze appeared to be floating in the air.
It was very hard to walk in such a situation. The person walking behind could hardly see the back of the head of the person in front, so everyone had to be careful.
After searching for about half an hour, they were lucky to find this resting place.
However, the door of the resting place was locked by an iron chain. What was even more annoying was that this door was still a transparent glass door. Everyone could see the dry environment inside, but they couldn’t get in. They could only stare and worry.
Thankfully, the props team had a hammer with them, and using that, they were able to open the door by breaking the chain.
Su Yan was certain that they would bash the door next, as if the lock had not been forced open.
She wasn’t sure why the props team brought a hammer, but it was a good thing they did since otherwise they would have had to wait to die today by standing in Blizzard.
The door opened, and everyone surged in.
Upon entering the place, everyone discovered that it was not large: the interior was not nicely decorated, and the walls and floor were still in rough shape.
The crew consisted of many people, and the area was packed with equipment boxes and people. The limited space in the room got increasingly crowded.
Thankfully, though, there was no longer any need to brave the wind and snow.
Everyone pulled out their cell phones when the door closed, but there was no signal, so nobody could send or receive messages.
Some people with poor mental quality have begun to panic. They started shouting in the chaotic crowd. “Are we trapped on the mountain?”
No one answered them.
However, everyone realised that they were indeed stuck on the mountain, unable to evacuate or send messages, leaving them with little choice but to wait for help to arrive.
Someone was yelling, “It’s snowing so much, we can’t go down, and the rescue team can’t come up, right?”
“You can come up when the snow stops,” said a consoling voice.
Some were less hopeful. “When will it stop? The snow will come up for sure. It’s snowing so much outside.”
This despondent comment offended someone. “So what do you say? Hold off on dying.”
In a moment, the packed cabin was silent as well.
They couldn’t survive for very long since they didn’t have enough food or water. The only option left was to die if the snow didn’t stop.
“We won’t wait to die; someone will come to save us.” Su Yan was the first to speak; her voice was very forceful but not overly loud, if at all thin.
Sun Dao also sent a message to the army. “What are you thinking about? All are in their twenties and thirtyties. You don’t consider how to fix problems when you come across them. You all consider waiting until you die. Here, what are you all thinking about?!”
Because of Director Sun’s high status, nobody dared to speak to her informally when she became upset.
After that, she instructed. “Women sit inside, men sit outside; distribute equipment boxes to girls and let them sit on the boxes. Don’t give it to me; I’ll sit on the ground near the door,” she finally said.
The location of the door was the coldest. Cold air came inside through the crack of the glass door, so it was also for this reason that girls sat inside and boys sat outside.
Su Yan understands Director Sun’s good intentions; she was worried that some men would not be convinced and thought that she would use her powers. So she said that she would not sit in the equipment box.
But even so, some people were still unhappy and whispered, “Why can only women sit in the equipment box? Who doesn’t know it’s cold on the ground?”
Director Sun replied directly, “If you have a period every month, you can also sit!”
Several people in the house had already given the man who talked derisive looks.
The man was ashamed and angry. His face was red and his ears were red, and he did not speak again.
After that, everyone followed Director Sun’s instructions. The men sat outside as the women carried the equipment box inside.
Some kind-hearted male compatriots also took the initiative to help female compatriots carry relatively heavy equipment boxes.
The girls were embarrassed to enjoy such a treatment in this harsh environment, so they proposed to Director Sun that men and women should take turns to sit.
After giving it some thought, Director Sun concluded that this was the fairest way to take behaviour. She acknowledged that, in such dire circumstances, treating everyone fairly can help to prevent arguments and troublemakers, but she issued the following warning. “Don’t try to be brave when you’re on your menstrual period; don’t ignore it.”
In the end, everyone decided that the seat would be switched every two hours and that the position wouldn’t change if a woman was menstruating.
Following her instructions, Director Sun stepped forward to take a seat on the ground near the door. Su Yan sat cross-legged next to her instead of going inside to sit on the box.
Astonished, Director Sun said, “Why don’t you go inside and sit down? This place is really chilly.”
In response, Su Yan said, “I’ll wait for someone.”
Director Sun thought she was waiting for the rescuers and persuaded, “I’ll just stay here and wait by myself. I’ll call you when someone comes.”
Su Yan shook her head with a firm attitude. “I’ll just sit here and wait.” She specifically emphasised, “I didn’t have my period.”
Director Sun continued to persuade. “You better go in; I see your physique…”
Su Yan: “I have more than one hundred pounds.”
Director Sun was stunned. “Then you don’t look like that.”
Director Sun had always assumed that Su Yan was quite weak. With her slender frame, she thought Su Yan would be 70/80 pounds.
Su Yan said, while grinning and sounding a little proud, “I work out.”
She originally had the habit of exercising. Later, in order to treat depression caused by miscarriage, she insisted on exercising every day, using exercise to secrete dopamine and resist depression. She assured the director again. “Don’t worry, I’m not that weak.”
Director Sun gave up trying to convince her after noticing her determination and gave her a warning, saying, “Go inside if you feel cold. You’re not required to stay here with me.”
Su Yan said, nodding, “Yes.”
Then everyone fell into a long wait.
Have a nice day!
