Chapter 62.1
“Our business is a private matter; there are so many people here. How… can we talk about it now?” Su Yan said in a whisper as she turned her face away and avoided his gaze.
Bai Xingfan sighed softly and had to put the matter on hold for the time being.
The two went back inside, shut the door once more, and began delivering food to everyone.
Due to the backpack’s limited capacity, each pair of people must share a pack of compressed biscuits; nonetheless, nobody voiced complaints—instead, everyone was appreciative.
They had been starving for several hours, so when Su Yan gave them the compressed biscuits, they all gave her a thank-you look.
After setting up a windproof stove in the middle of the room, he took the kettle out again. He went out, came back with a big pot full of snow, and put the kettle on the stove to boil water.
That sequence of events astounded everyone, and they looked up Bai Xingfan more thankfully.
In their eyes, if Su Yan was a kind-hearted, gentle, and virtuous girl, then Bai Xingfan was a god who came from heaven.
With the burning of fire, the icy snow quickly turned into water.
After a while, billowing white smoke appeared above the stove, and the hot water began to boil.
After being stranded in the snowstorm for several hours, everyone was gawking at the kettle like a wolf in search of prey, but instead of robbing them, they waited patiently for Bai Xingfan to finish the first glass of water before following the lady.
Because it was an outdoor shooting, almost everyone brought their own water cups. Su Yan brought a pink thermos cup, but it was useless because Bai Xingfan took out his own cup. After filling the cup with water, he gave her the cup.
The body began to lose its retained cold after drinking a cup of hot water; blood vessels and nearly frozen joints gradually regained their flexibility. Everyone stood up and adjusted their bones and muscles.
After taking a glance at the time, someone announced to the group, “It’s almost five o’clock.”
It will be dawning in just a few hours.
“Maybe the snow will stop after dawn.”
“Someone will come to rescue us then.”
Everyone’s mental health had improved and had progressively turned more hopeful after eating and drinking.
At this time, it was the male compatriots’ turn to sit on the box. Three of them voluntarily stood up from the box and gave the box to Su Yan, Bai Xingfan, and Sun Dao.
Su Yan didn’t act courteously because she knew that Director Sun would act even more courteously if she did. Instead, she grabbed Sun’s arm and went to the equipment box that had been cleared out.
There were three empty places in the southwest corner of the room.
Su Yan took a seat with her back to the wall. She wanted to let Director Sun sit in the middle, but Director Sun ended up sitting in the outermost position.
The empty space in the middle belonged to Bai Xingfan, and Su Yan had no choice but to watch him walk towards the position beside her.
The moment Bai Xingfan sat down, his brows suddenly wrinkled, and his cheeks tensed, obviously clenching his back molars at that moment.
Su Yan thought he was injured, and her heart suddenly lifted up. “Are you alright?”
Bai Xingfan breathed a sigh of relief and said, “It’s okay.” Then he unzipped the mountaineering suit.
Su Yan didn’t believe it—’Why did you take it off?’
She assumed he was going to examine his wounds, but who knew that he would open his arms and envelop her in them without warning?
Su Yan did not take any safety measures and was utterly stunned.
Bai Xingfan said, “This way is warmer,” over his head.
Su Yan heard his soft, low voice, but Su Yan was angry. But in front of so many people, she couldn’t get angry, so she could only struggle slightly and quietly resisted. “What are you doing?”
Bai Xingfan whispered, “Don’t move; my ribs hurt a little.”
Su Yan instantly froze. “What’s wrong with the ribs?” she asked hurriedly without moving, fearing she would do something harmful for Bai Xingfan.
Bai Xingfan sighed and muttered, “I fell on the way here.”
Su Yan’s eyes darkened abruptly.
‘Along with the bitterly cold wind, the snowstorm persisted. The mountaintop route must be fraught with challenges and impediments. How could it just be a fall?’ She felt guilty and blamed herself and asked, “Did you fall badly?”
Bai Xingfan replied calmly, “Don’t worry, it’s not serious.” Then he said to her in a warm voice, “Sleep for a while. The snow will stop after a while.”
Su Yan was dubious. “How do you know?”
Bai Xingfan smiled and said, “Because I read the weather forecast.”
Su Yan: “…”
Su Yan: “Didn’t you say that the weather forecast is not necessarily accurate?”
Bai Xingfan replied calmly, “Thinking of the good in everything.”
Su Yan: “…”
She couldn’t help rolling her eyes.
With a gentle voice, Bai Xingfan pleaded, “Go to sleep and have a good rest. The rescue team will come at any time, and we must save our physical strength for going down the mountain.”
Su Yan questioned once more, “How long have you been looking for me in the mountains?”
Bai Xing said, “Not very long.”
Su Yan remained unconvinced, saying, “I’m not stupid.”
“According to the survey, lack of sleep will affect intellectual development,” said Bai Xingfan, with seriousness.
Su Yan: “…
Bai Xingfan: “So, cub, hurry up and sleep.”
Su Yan asked again worriedly, “Is it serious?”
Bai Xingfan smiled helplessly, “It’s really not serious.” He added, “If it’s serious, you won’t be able to see me.”
Su Yan: “…”
She also knew that she couldn’t get the truth from his mouth no matter what she said. So she took out a blanket, unfolded it, and wrapped herself and him in it together.
She slept soundly.
She was not sure if it was due to his overly warm embrace, or she had eaten and drunk enough, or both.
The atmosphere was peaceful; the majority of the people in the room fell asleep.
Have a nice day!
