Yan Yan - Chapter 63.1
Chapter 63.1 – Growing Up
The Nandao City Third People’s Hospital.
The visitation period ended at four o’clock, and the long, cold hallway in front of the intensive care unit was deserted.
Su Yan was sitting by herself on the blue lounge chair, both hands clutching a black-on-white notification about a grave sickness. She looked like a walking corpse with an empty look in her eyes and a pale face.
She still couldn’t believe that after she went to get some water for Bai Xingfan, something deadly could happen to the man.
‘Obviously he was fine before I left… How could he fall? He is Bai Xingfan.’
He has always had a strong, resolute image in her head, as if he were an all-powerful, unstoppable person, like a powerful mountain that would never topple no matter what he would face.
But such a strong man fell at the end.
She later went to the hospital with the ambulance. She was in disbelief and couldn’t believe it when the doctor said, “rescue.” How could he be sent to rescue?
She always thought he just caught a cold and had a fever.
But in fact, he did not have a fever because of a cold, but a lung infection caused by a broken rib.
He broke two ribs.
The lifeguards at the time were afraid to go up the mountain in the really severe weather, but he was taking a risk with his life for her.
‘How on earth could he have fought the storm and climbed the mountain that night? How many times have you been in potentially fatal situations when climbing a mountain? When he was walking alone in the snow-covered mountains, what kind of mood was he carrying? In a hurry? Worry? Desperate to find me as soon as possible and make sure I am safe?’
‘Why do you have to hide your injury and walk down the mountain even after waiting for the rescue team? Worried that I will be afraid? Or worried that I’ll be distracted on the way down by worrying about his injury? So even if it hurts to death, you have to grit your teeth and insist on going down the mountain with me?
Why so stupid?
Bai Xingfan, you are not a fool; you have more hearts than anyone else.
How can you be so stupid?’
Su Yan was suddenly annoyed and felt that he was a paranoid lunatic!
‘Yet a paranoid idiot.’
He had no need to endanger his life for her—they were all divorced.
Besides, she was the one who insisted on following the crew up the mountain, so what did it have to do with him? He didn’t have to take any responsibility for her because it was all her own fault!
Thinking that, a strong feeling of annoyance filled her heart again, and Su Yan fell into a breakdown again, feeling that she was a useless waste!
‘Why don’t I listen to him?
Why go up the mountain with a fluke mentality?
It was me who killed him.
He would not have been stuck in the mountain, faced with snow blocking the way, or needed to risk his life to climb the mountain in order to rescue me if I had listened to him at that moment.’
Her hands curled into fists, her arms trembling, her palm clenching the critical illness warning.
Less than a day has passed since he was placed in intensive care. Su Yan’s emotions have repeatedly crashed, leaving her feeling as though the world she had been relying on had abruptly fallen. She was overwhelmed and at a loss, feeling as though she had been left behind in a wilderness. She didn’t know what to do at all.
Her eyes filled with tears, and she buried her face in her palms again and burst into tears.
Every day, Director Sun would arrange for the crew’s main creative team to visit the hospital. So even if he couldn’t go to ICU, he would visit Su Yan.
On the first day, they left the hospital at four o’clock in the afternoon, and when they came in the second day, they found Su Yan was still sitting on the same chair wearing yesterday’s clothes.
The white down jacket and blue jeans were wrinkled, and the light brown snow boots were still stained with mud.
Obviously, she never left here at all.
Since there was no way to stay by Bai Xingfan’s side, she could only stay at the place closest to him.
“Mr. Bai is a strong person, and he will survive this. You must be optimistic and keep hope.” Director Sun looked a little distressed, sighed, sat next to Su Yan, and began to enlighten the poor woman. “Su Yan, rest when you need to rest; eat when you need to eat. Don’t burn your body, or who will take care of Mr. Bai?”
Su Yan’s look was lifeless and drab, her dark blue eyes giving off the impression that she had not heard Director Sun’s words.
At four o’clock in the afternoon, the phone alarm rang. Su Yan kept the alarm at that time because it was the visiting time.
She bounced off the chair like a bird trapped in a cage and got a chance to go outside as soon as the alarm rang.
She took a few steps towards the ICU before she fainted.
Have a nice day!
