Yan Yan - Chapter 63.3
Chapter 63.3 – Growing Up
Bai Xingfan’s condition continued to improve, and when Su Yan visited him on the afternoon of the third day, his consciousness was completely clear.
He was still in the ICU, so the visiting times were limited. Family members of patients in the ICU needed to wear protective clothes before entering the ICU, and not all the family members could enter the ICU due to limited protective clothes at the hospital. Therefore, when there were many people, they lined up.
The visiting time started at four o’clock in the afternoon, and before three thirty, Su Yan went to the ICU entrance and successfully stood first at the line.
When the time came, she changed into protective clothes and hurried into the ICU.
As she took a step forward, she felt uneasy in her heart. Patients with critical conditions were placed in the ICU, so she felt she could smell death there. Every patient there was one step away from death, and Su Yan thought the machines there were the weapons that fight against death.
Su Yan held her breath, fearing she would disturb the patients, but as soon as she saw Bai Xingfan laying on the hospital bed, she couldn’t control her emotions. Hot tears fell down, blurring her vision.
Bai Xingfan was now awake; his eyes were black and bright, but his face was pale and almost transparent. An oxygen tube for breathing was placed under the bridge of his tall nose, and a ventilator and other instruments for detecting vital signs were placed beside the hospital bed.
Seeing that, Su Yan realised that Bai Xingfan was not completely out of danger.
With slightly shaking legs, Su Yan sat on the plastic stool beside the hospital bed. She wanted to hold his hands, but a seline needle was inserted into his left arm, and an oxygen level test was sandwiched between his right-hand fingers.
He was right in front of her eyes, but she couldn’t touch him.
She sobbed softly as tears rolled down on her cheeks nonstop.
“Why are you…crying?” Bai Xingfan muttered as he smiled helplessly.
When Su Yan heard Bai Xingfan’s words, she cried even more sadly, whimpered, and complained. “You’re a big liar; trick me to get you water.”
“But I really wanted to drink water.” Bai Xingfan smiled at Su Yan innocently.
Su Yan was not so stupid as to not understand the man’s thoughts. “You just want to send me away. Treating me as a fool!”
This time Bai Xingfan had to admit what he did. “I am worried that you will be afraid.”
Su Yan suddenly became angry and scolded the man. “What are you afraid of? Am I afraid that my ex-husband will be sent to the ICU?!”
“…”
The word “ex-husband” hit the man’s heart like a poisonous arrow.
With a sinking expression, Bai Xingfan chewed his back teeth violently. Then he scowled, his face conveying agony, and he let out a small groan.
Su Yan became frightened, abruptly got off the stool, collected herself, and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Bai Xingfan muttered through pain, “My ribs hurt.”
“What…what’s wrong? Why did it suddenly start to hurt?” Su Yan was panicking and was going to call the doctor.
But before she could do that, she heard Bai Xingfan’s voice. “Because I’m angry with you.”
Su Yan: “…”
With a small sigh, Bai Xingfan raised his gaze to her and quietly questioned, “Are you still angry with me?”
Su Yan: ‘This scoundrel! What a bastard!’ She wanted to hit him because she was so furious, but after seeing how pale he looked, she sat back on the stool.
Meeting Su Yan’s furious eyes, Bai Xingfan frowned again and said, “It hurts…”
“I’m not angry with you, okay?!” She exclaimed angrily and helplessly, while she was frightened that he was actually in pain, but she had a strong suspicion that he was acting.
Never giving up, Bai Xingfan asked, “What am I to you?”
Su Yan: “…”
Su Yan blushed for no apparent reason as she met Bai Xingfan’s intense gaze. She immediately averted her face to the side and muttered, “You come out of the ICU first.”
“Can I be your husband after I come out?” Bai Xingfan asked quietly, glancing at Su Yan’s slightly red ears.
Su Yan: “Let’s look at your performance.”
Bai Xingfan: “How can I make Mrs. Bai satisfied?”
Su Yan squinted at him. “Who is your Mrs. Bai? Pay attention to your words!”
After a brief period of silence, Bai Xingfan said again, “Let’s go to Linchuan for the New Year; it’s just you and me.”
It was in the old town of Linchuan that they first became acquainted.
Startled, Su Yan stared at him blankly.
‘I want to start again.’ With a gentle smile, Bai Xingfan said, “I want to get to know Miss Su again.”
Suppressing the sob going to escape from her throat, she lowered her eyes.
Bai Xingfan patiently waited for her answer.
It took a while before Su Yan finally responded in a nasal voice, “You can go, but you have to promise me one condition.”
Bai Xingfan: “Just bring it up.”
“Don’t put me in the bird cage again; I don’t like it very much,” Su Yan said, giving the man a very serious look.
Bai Xingfan also expected that she would mention this condition. And even if she didn’t mention it, he wouldn’t put her in a cage again.
He didn’t want to hurt her a second time, let alone lose her a second time.
“I will never lock you up again.” With an extremely resolute look, Bai Xingfan promised to reassure her, saying, “I will never force you to do anything you don’t want to do again.”
This time, he would treat her with respect and put in a lot of effort to get her to voluntarily rest in his palm.
