Chapter 64.2 – Be Good

Su Yan rolled her eyes at a person laying on the bed after the ward’s door had closed, saying, “I thought you were thicker than the corner of the city wall, but you are truly shy? Is it really so hard for you to tell your mother how you feel?”

Perhaps not for other people. However, it was really hard for him.

It was harder than climbing to the sky.

“I…hated her for years,” Bai Xingfan muttered after a moment of silence.

Su Yan was upset and helpless. ’What kind of upbringing could inspire such intense hatred towards one’s mother?’ With a heavy breath, she questioned, “Why don’t you hate her now?”

Bai Xingfan was quiet once more. It took him a while, but eventually he found the confidence to share his thoughts and feelings about his mother for the first time in his life. “I was awake when she came to see me in the intensive care unit, but I was unable to open my eyes. She apologised to me and continued crying, saying, “I’m sorry.”

“And you did forgave her?” asked Su Yan.

Bai Xingfan: “No.”

Su Yan looked at him with wide eyes. “Huh?”

Bai Xingfan explained. “I suddenly don’t hate her anymore.”

The mother sobbed with regret and anguish. Her broken heart was evident to him. That was when he started to feel relieved.

Su Yan understood that Bai Xingfan made the decision to make amends with his mother. ‘Since there is no resentment, how can we talk about forgiveness?’ Thinking that Su Yan expressed her thoughts,

“This is good; it means we are all growing up. You have grown up, and so has my aunt.”

Bai Xingfan’s brows knitted instantly, and he asked with a frown, “Auntie?”

Su Yan said confidently, “We are not a couple anymore!”

Bai Xingfan: “…

Su Yan: “I haven’t forgiven you yet!”

Helplessly, Bai Xingfan asked, “What should I do to get Miss Su’s forgiveness?”

After giving it some thought, Su Yan came up with the following four guidelines. “Don’t lie to me; don’t force me; don’t threaten me; don’t disturb me when I want to sleep.”

The first three were important, as they concern her dignity and freedom, but the last one was also important, as it directly determines her mental state.

She added in a low voice. “Don’t force me when I don’t want to.”

Bai Xingfan said without hesitation, “Okay.”

Su Yan was stunned. ‘Wasn’t this too quick to agree?’

She was instantly struck with the proverb, ‘You can never trust a man in bed, even if he’s lying on a hospital bed.’ She gave the man a serious look before saying, “If you lie to me, you will always be my ex-husband.”

Bai Xingfan had to reassure her despite the harshness of the term “ex-husband. “Okay, I will definitely remember Miss Su’s warning and will never go astray again.”

“What do you mean by astray?” asked an irate Su Yan. “Don’t make yourself sound so innocent. You are cunning and treacherous.”

Upon hearing those words, Bai Xingfan was startled. “Am I that bad?”

Su Yan asked, “What else? You’ve taken the wrong turn, and you’re the typical “wrong road” person!” Again with a sigh, she said, “You tricked me into a den of thieves.”

After bursting into laughter, Bai Xingfan asked, “Have you ever regretted it?”

Did she feel guilty about falling in love with him? was his question. Su Yan was unsure if that was something she should have regretted.

She added, “It feels like I spent a lot of money to buy a sheep, and after raising it for a while, I found out it was a wolf,” after giving it some thought. “I was shocked and felt that I was cheated. But, in terms of market value, wolves are much more expensive than sheep, so I don’t know whether I made a profit or a loss.”

Although Bai Xingfan was amused, he was unable to laugh too loudly due to his rib ailment. He lifted the corner of his mouth as he suddenly experienced excruciating agony in his left ribs. He tightened his teeth and scowled uncontrollably.

Noticing that, Su Yan scrambled off the stool and hurriedly asked, “Is it hurting again? What’s making you laugh?”

With a slight easing of the discomfort, Bai Xingfan answered, “I’m so happy.”

“You just came out of the ICU; what are you so happy about?” Su Yan stared at him. “Do you feel proud?”

Bai Xingfan answered seriously, “Because I can still see you alive.”

Su Yan was moved to tears in an instant. She sat back on the stool with stinging eyes and angrily exclaimed, “I hate you so much!”

“But I don’t hate you at all,” Bai Xingfan remarked with a smile. “I love you so much.”

With anger, Su Yan declared, “I don’t love you.”

Bai Xingfan: “My love for you is sufficient.” He meant it. “I hope Miss Su can be kind enough to continue to adopt me, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

Su Yan laughed.

Additionally, Bai Xingfan said, “I will definitely listen to you.”

Su Yan responded. “Then you should get better soon.” She continued, “The Chinese New Year is less than two months away.”

A vow was made by Bai Xingfan: “I will definitely be discharged from the hospital before the New Year.”

Su Yan: “And then go right into your hectic work? bring this year’s career to a flawless close?”

Although Bai Xingfan could sense some bitterness in her statement, he couldn’t help but chuckle. “Miss Su has learnt a lot of irony.”

Su Yan: “…”

After giving up on his playful remarks, Bai Xingfan firmly stated, “Of course I have to accompany Miss Su to Linchuan to celebrate the New Year.”

Finally, Su Yan graciously lifted the corners of her mouth and said, “You are free to bring your computer with you.”

Bai Xingfan gave a small nod, saying, “Thank you, Miss Su, for your understanding.”

“I just love the wolf,” said Su Yan. When she saw that he was motionless on the bed, she grew more assertive, reached out an evil hand, gave him a little pinch on the cheek, and spoke in a soothing voice, “Little darling, I am very considerate.”

Bai Xingfan asked, “Miss Su, do you think I can’t get better?” while maintaining his composure.

Su Yan: “…”

Bai Xingfan: “Little cutie?”

Su Yan: “…”

Bai Xingfan: “It seems that Miss Su prefers this title?”

Su Yan: ‘I’m not! No, I do not!’

Bai Xingfan said, “Try again later.”

Su Yan: ‘…Help!’
