Yan Yan - Chapter 69.1

Chapter 69.1 – Extra 3
Bai Xinglan was supposed to go with Bai Xingfan and Su Zhan after dinner at Su Yan’s parents’ home. But after the conflict with Su Zhan, Bai Xinglan refused it.
No one could persuade him, so they could only let him become a bridesmaid from a best man.
Bai Xingfan finally took Su Zhan home, and Bai Xinglan decided to stay at Su Yan’s place and settle into Su Zhan’s room.
****
It was Su Yan’s big day, and everyone was up bright and early.
Su Yan, who got up at five in the morning, finished her breakfast before the makeup artist and photographer arrived.
Shortly after, the four bridesmaids showed up one by one.
They all slipped into their dresses first, then got their makeup done and started snapping photos while brainstorming ways to block the door and hide the bride’s high heels so well.
[Tl: In traditional Chinese weddings, the groom must get his bride from her birth family and take her to the wedding place. The bride’s party frequently creates difficulties for the groom to complete before allowing him to take the bride away, such as hiding her shoes and forcing him to find them.]
As the five friends were quietly plotting against the guys, Yao Anan suddenly spotted Bai Xinglan nearby. She perked up and said, “Hold on, did we forget someone?”
Su Yan and the other three friends immediately fell silent, following Yao Anan’s gaze to Bai Xinglan.
Bai Xinglan looked confused and asked, “Why are you all staring at me?”
Su Yan squinted her eyes and asked seriously, “Lanlan, you’re not in cahoots with your brother, are you?”
Yao Anan chimed in. “Yeah, you wouldn’t just let your brother waltz in, right?”
Bai Xinglan replied with a sad look on his face, “No way! Absolutely not! My sister-in-law is my real sister today, and I’m totally on her side. I won’t let my brother in without a fight!”
Yao Anan, knowing that Bai Xinglan and Su Zhan had a history of rivalry, decided to stir the pot a bit. “I know it’s not the best time to bring this up, but I have to say, Xiao Zhan was always super considerate of us sisters. We all liked him. You can’t be worse than him, right?”
Bai Xinglan lit up. “Worse than him? Me? No way! That’s impossible! Even if my brother showed up with a rocket launcher today, I wouldn’t let him through that door!”
Yao Anan: ‘…Well, that’s not exactly true.’
Su Yan pursed her lips and had to remind the silly young man. “Um, Lanlan, I still have to get married today.”
“Yeah! When the auspicious time comes, the door should be opened,” Yao Anan also reminded the boy.
Bai Xinglan nodded and assured them. “Don’t worry, I know what to do!”
The group of friends felt relieved and focused on how to hide the shoes.
Bai Xinglan, feeling a bit bored, strolled over to the window, planning to snap a pic.
Just as he pulled out his phone, a WeChat message from Ji Shubai popped up. “Lanlan, do you want a bear? The limited edition black and gold from the Qianqiu series.”
Bai Xinglan scoffed. “Don’t even think about it! I’m not falling for your tricks!”
Ji Shubai replied, “I’m just asking if you want it; no need to overthink.”
Bai Xinglan shot back, “No way!”
Ji Shubai continued. “There’s also a limited edition for other Qianqiu series.”
“No! No! No! I won’t take a hundred bears! I’m not betraying my sister-in-law today!” After that, he eagerly showed Su Yan the chat history, wanting to take credit. “Sister-in-law, my brother tried to bribe me with a bear, and I turned him down!”
Su Yan glanced at the screen, fuming. “Hmph, what a bad guy!” Then she looked at Bai Xinglan with admiration. “Great job! You’ve made your sister-in-law proud!”
Bai Xinglan promised, “Don’t worry, sister-in-law. I’m totally on your side!”
Still annoyed, Su Yan shot another WeChat message to her husband. “Lanlan already told me! I suggest you stop wasting your time. We’re all smart people and won’t fall for your sneaky ways!”
Then she messaged her brother. “Xiao Zhan, stick with your sister. I believe in you!”
*****
Bai family, garden.
The three groomsmen were clad in black and red Chinese-style suits, while the groom sported a striking red suit adorned with gold embroidery.
Nearby, the photographer was busy fine-tuning his gear.
Ji Shubai let out a soft sigh, set his phone aside, and turned to Bai Xingfan, saying with a hint of frustration, “No amount of bribery will work on him; he’s too resolute.”
Cheng Jiheng chimed in honestly. “I honestly didn’t think he’d be this bold.”
Bai Xingfan had already caught a glimpse of a WeChat message from his wife. He chuckled wryly, then paused to consider before asking Su Zhan, “If you were in his shoes, what would it take for you to budge?”
Su Zhan had a good idea of what to do, but he hesitated. His loyalty was torn; while he was on the best man’s side, his heart was with his sister. After all, she was his flesh and blood, and he felt a duty to stand by her, even if she didn’t voice it. The thought of suggesting a bribe to Bai Xinglan felt like a betrayal.
Noticing Su Zhan’s uncertainty, Bai Xingfan didn’t push him. Instead, he turned to Cheng Jiheng and Ji Shubai.
They both understood what Bai was getting at. Cheng Jiheng wrapped an arm around Su Zhan’s shoulders, trying to reassure him. “Come on, Zhanzhan, you’ve seen it too. Lanlan isn’t in a position to help. Brother Bai is counting on you now. You’re the backbone of our family, and we trust you completely.”
Su Zhan was still on the fence.
Cheng Jiheng kept at it. “We get that she’s your sister, and you don’t want to let her down. But if you think about it, your brother and sister-in-law already have their marriage certificate. The wedding is just a formality. Your idea isn’t betrayal; it’s just speeding things up so your sister and Brother Bai can tie the knot sooner.”
Su Zhan: “…”
He knew it was a stretch, but somehow it all sounded pretty reasonable.
“Lanlan might be a bit slow, but you’re not. You’re way smarter than him, and you’ll definitely get this.” Ji Shubai chimed in.
Su Zhan: “…
Cheng Jiheng added, “Lanlan just doesn’t know how to roll with the punches. If he’s blocking the door, it’ll mess up the timing and throw off your sister and brother-in-law’s wedding plans. You’ve got the ideas to help everyone talk him into it, which is a win for your sister and brother-in-law. Don’t you agree?”
Su Zhan: “…
Su Zhan was on the fence at this moment; he was thinking about what side to choose.
Noticing this, Ji Shubai casually remarked, “We’ve always thought you were way better than Lanlan.”
That line worked like magic, and Su Zhan switched sides in a heartbeat. “Okay!”
Have a nice day!
